Absolutely perfect location. The staff were also especially kind. I accidentally made our reservation a day short and didn’t realize it until check-in. The staff immediately looked and, luckily, they had an extra room available for the night I had missed. There were also a ton of amenities and the welcome gift was adorable. On top of it all, the rooms were completely spotless (a high priority for me coming from a hotel working background). I will happily be staying here again the next time I’m in Tokyo!

Staying for two nights only, but already wish I had more time. Super location, fantastic service from the staff (somebody stole my umbrella, and they just gave me a brand new one) ❤️ Kind, helpful and just seems to be super nice. Free drinks (coffee, tea ++) and toiletries in the lobby. Room was quite big for Tokyo in my opinion. Have not tried the open bath yet but looking forward to it. Room also has a small fridge, safe and welcome gift 💯

Beautiful place to stay. We really enjoyed our stay here, our room was Japanese style and a good size, location is brilliant right in the middle of everything in Asakusa but feels calm and quiet. Our room had a direct view of the pagoda in Senso-ji. The service was a stand out here. They really went above and beyond. Welcome snack in the room was replenished each day, we were always greeted with a warm welcome to and staff were really friendly. It was my birthday during our stay and they even gave me a birthday card. Would 100% return and recommend to others.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! We truly enjoyed both the ryokan and the onsen bath. The location was excellent, and our room was perfect – especially with the beautiful view of the nearby temple. The staff were very friendly and service-minded, which made our visit even more special. Everything was clean and well maintained. There was a slightly musty smell in the bathroom, but overall everything was great and we had a lovely experience. We would love to come back!

Do not stay here. Best description - Ridiculously SMALL Stayed 3 nights at this Ryokan and it could not have been worse. The rooms are the size of my pocket, no place whatsoever for luggage. The usage of the Spa (Onsen) is rationed only 3 hours in the morning and only from 4 pm - 10 pm. As is the use of the lounge, only 7:30 - 10:30 am and 15:00 - 21:30 pm - seriously people, what are they going to give away too much coffee! The onsen is only for 1 or 2 people at a time, which is private, I grant you, but it is not really the full experience. Check out is a strict 10:00 am policy after which you are persona non grata. They are so tightly booked they have no extra rooms, ever. This Ryokan offers no food, staff that barely speak English.... sometimes but not always. We felt overall unwelcome. To be fair, the rooms were clean, the bathrooms were clean, albeit small beyond belief. The onsen was clean, but small also. Location is great for shopping at the market and for using the subway (if you are so inclined). It is walking distance to the Shrine (again if you are so inclined). Taxis are abundant, however between 10 am and 10 pm they cannot bring you to the door of the hotel as it is a pedestrian walkway during those times. Food in the area is ridiculously overpriced, but there are a lot of options.

My family and I recently spent three nights here. As this was our first time in Japan, I came in without much expectations of what a hotel in Japan could be. The hotel had signs to help foreigners appreciate different aspects of Japanese culture such as the public baths, a unique experience for an American like me and yukatas, a type of robe that people were encouraged to wear around the hotel. I could go on about other aspects about the hotel but the main reason I wanted to write this review is to share an experience that was one of the most memorable of our trip. Our son wanted to go to the Pokémon Cafe, my wife and I tried to get a reservation a month before, we would wake up at 5AM each morning and try to get a slot. We didn't care if we were to have breakfast, lunch or a late dinner there. All three days we couldn't get a reservation, we prepared our son that it wasn't going to happen. I figured that the Pokémon Cafe was an attractive tourist spot so without much hope, I went down to the front desk on our first night and asked the concierge if he had any experience with getting a reservation at the Pokémon Cafe. He said he didn't but immediately looked it up and then called them for us. He then told us how there might be a chance if you try and reserve it the night before as people may have cancelled their reservation. We tried every hour until our jetlag put us all to sleep around 8PM and then we had gotten a call from the front desk at 9PM saying there was an opening! He had been checking the website every 15 minutes or so! I got the reservation and went down to tell him in person. The sincere response of joy from him stays with me. We had a great time and brought him a small souvenir but I think the best thing I can do for him and his hotel is to tell you to go to it.

The Ryokan is extremely nice, it is really exciting to found a Traditional Japanese ryokan with private bathrooms in Tokyo. We lived in Kiku room, where some are renovated with modernized washrooms but those that are not are still very clean and useable. The location is just so convenient, close to the temple, shopping districts, Skytree and the Asakusa Line metro. You can see landmarks through your room or just the public bath upstairs. The management and service are superb, the staffs are English friendly and extremely respectful and helpful. It is also relatively cost efficient consider what you are getting. It is really the highlight of our trip, and I will recommend any if you want to stay near Asakusa.

A one of a kind experience. This ryokan is in the center of Asakusa near Sensoji Temple, just off of a side street. The staff will treat you with respect and kindness and will do everything they can to assist you and make you feel comfortable. A big thank you to Yassu and all the rest of the staff. When my luggage suddenly broke, they were there to assist with disposal for a small fee while we purchased a new one at Ginza Karen down the road. We will be back. Thank you for the incredible hospitality.

Yelp
My experience with this hotel was quite terrible. First the goods: location is great, ladies at the reception are sweet, hotel is traditional Japanese. Now the bads: The rooms are outdated and not too comfortable. The owner, which you cannot avoid because he's there every day (especially at night), not only lacks in hospitality skills but he is just a bad person. When I was staying at this hotel I got sick with a bad flu and I asked the owner if I could get an extra pillow because I couldn't sleep at night. I even used the Google translator in Japanese to make sure he understood that I was sick and I couldn't sleep. He refused to give me an extra pillow and said that if I wanted I could go buy one at the grocery store! Which hotel staff refuses to give an extra pillow to one of of his guests? Especially considering that the hotel wasn't full so it's not like they were out of pillows. As a result I had to sleep using my airplane pillow (see pic). He was grumpy and rude the whole time. Last but not least, everyday you are REQUIRED to leave your room from 10:30AM to 3PM. Basically with the excuse of cleaning the room they force all the guests to leave the hotel for 4 and half hours. During this time the lights and the heat are off so my suspicion is that this is just a way for the owner to save money of electricity and water bills. The rooms indeed got cleaned much faster than that. In conclusion you pay top $$$ to have an outdated room, a mean owner and your room available to you for only 19 and 1/2 hours per day instead of 24h. Avoid it.

Yelp
We stayed at this Ryokan in the Asakusa area for 1 night. We wished we stayed longer. The ryokan is small and intimate. Rooms are basic; yet, clean and well-maintained. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and willing to assist us. The sauna area was great after dinner. I asked the front desk if having a tattoo was an issue. It was not an issue and stated they do not ban anyone with tattoos compared to other Ryokans who are very strict with this. Breakfast was very good and prepared well for a set meal. Everything in the Asakusa District is accessible by foot and we did not feel lost. There are tons of restaurants in the area and lots of shopping experiences.

Yelp
I spilt the cost for this place with someone so I don't recall how expensive this place is, but I didn't find it too expensive. I've spent more and received less. This place wasn't the typical Ryokan experience that I thought it would be. The bathrooms are a little old feeling, but after 2mos in China lemme tell you they worked better than my dorm's bathroom did. The sleeping area was comfortable and clean. Which is what we desperately needed. I didn't like that the hotel kicked you out from 10am to like 6pm daily. I love sleeping in. However, it did get me out to see more of Tokyo. I can't comment on the TVs because I never felt the need to watch them. The air conditioning works REALLY well. We froze. Lol. The breakfasts were all right. We only had them once since they were a bit pricey and you do get a lot of food for the cost. The staff was SUPER friendly, helpful, and polite! They handled our insanely heavy luggage - traveling the world for a year for school will do that - and let us leave it there when we got to Tokyo earlier than we planned from Osaka. PS they also gave us free green tea to take home so I'm happy.

Yelp
Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu was a really great place to stay during my first visit back to Japan after living there over a decade ago. I wanted to stay somewhere during my short trip that felt like the Japan I had come to love during the time I lived there, and this ryokan delivered. I loved how clean everything was, even when it wasn't the most stylish of hotels. The tatami was fresh and clean, and while the bathroom amenities were likely Showa-era, I felt comfortable, as though coming home after a long time away. I could have stayed in a western-style hotel, but I had the sneaking suspicion that a western-style bed would have been less comfortable than the futon rolled out on the floor when I arrived. Each day I was there, the room was cleaned meticulously, and everything put back perfectly into place. The ryokan staff were *incredibly* helpful, providing directions and advice in English when I needed suggestions. They were ready and able to provide advice when I needed transit help as well. Also, while the ryokan closes its desk around 11:00 pm, they provide a door code for visitors who need to come back in after a night out If I were to ding them on score, my only complaint would be that guests aren't given the option of a "come back later" door tag for cleaners - you have to be out of there by around 10:00 AM, and you have to stay out till around 3:00. While this worked because of all the putzing around I wanted to do, I love sleeping in, so from that perspective, a more flexible cleaning time would have been appreciated. Overall, loved the space and definitely recommend it for people wanting something more traditional in the Japanese sense.

Yelp
Although the baths are very nice, and have a great view of the temple and tree tower, the rest of the ryokan is plain Jane. Rooms are expensive because of their location. The executive suites, are about the level of a Motel 6. Bathrooms are tired and worn. In addition, just a reminder, that if you come during the change of seasons, the heat will be off. Although I was in an executive suite, the TV did not work. It would've been nice to have 30 minutes to just wind down because area shops all close very early. In addition, paper screens have holes and bedding had some spots and stains.
