A little indulgence: from the discreet and kind welcome, to the amenities, and even the space itself. Everything is well cared for and spotless, with a coffee room offering plenty of small snacks, tea, and coffee available for guests. The room was perfect both in size and facilities. The tatami bed was comfortable and cozy, the room’s air conditioning worked perfectly, and the onsen was truly comfortable and impeccably clean. The location is ideal, just a few steps from Senso-ji. The price is more than fair for all of this. Highly recommended!

The best location - you can literally go everywhere without transferring too much. Nice traditional tatami-mat room with a view looking over Senso-ji! Onsen on the 6th floor is a nice touch. It works out really well if you’re a small group because it’s semi-private once everyone comes in at once. We loved using the onsen because it felt nicer than the bathroom in our room. It was almost always vacant and available for us. Front desk is really helpful - they helped us with our luggage delivery. They also had a nice amenity bar with all essentials and a lounge with free drinks.

Love love love this ryokan that’s stone throw away from Nakamise and Denboin street! The hospitality is top notched! The impressive staff explained to me everything and kindly showed me my traditional style room. There are some snacks and drinks in the lobby area and the “onsen like” experience were so cool. Note that it’s not mineral hot springs water but boiled tap water but it was still rejuvenating and they do switch the baths and I experienced bathing with the view of Tokyo Sky tree and the Sensoji on different occasions. Although, it’s a public bath, 2-3 persons can be accommodated at the same time and mostly guests / strangers will not care to join once the sign says its being used so I had the bath to myself on those two occasions, or I was just lucky. The futon was very comfortable and everything was so clean and pristine! I would definitely stay here again when I come back in Asakusa

Parfait ! ! ! The staff were wonderfully kind and the Japanese-style customer service was impeccable ! The hotel is close to the subway and all the shops. It's near Nakamise Street, but it's so quiet. A huge thank you to the young woman at reception who helped me find directions to Sawara !

Great little hotel. The onsen/sento is only for 2-3 people but a nice touch. Location is fantastic with easy access to shopping, sites, and restaurants. Service was amazing and friendly. They walked us up to our room and showed us around. Would stay here again.

Absolutely perfect location. The staff were also especially kind. I accidentally made our reservation a day short and didn’t realize it until check-in. The staff immediately looked and, luckily, they had an extra room available for the night I had missed. There were also a ton of amenities and the welcome gift was adorable. On top of it all, the rooms were completely spotless (a high priority for me coming from a hotel working background). I will happily be staying here again the next time I’m in Tokyo!

I loved spending the night here. It's a zen oasis in the middle of a busy area. The staff is very kind and attentive, at least the younger ones speak very good English. Also the room, although small, it was very comfortable and clean

Beautiful room, very courteous staff and superb amenities. It is a perfect Ryokan, for anyone looking for one at a wonderful location, being only a few minutes from Asakusa station. Will certainly be back

Yelp
My experience with this hotel was quite terrible. First the goods: location is great, ladies at the reception are sweet, hotel is traditional Japanese. Now the bads: The rooms are outdated and not too comfortable. The owner, which you cannot avoid because he's there every day (especially at night), not only lacks in hospitality skills but he is just a bad person. When I was staying at this hotel I got sick with a bad flu and I asked the owner if I could get an extra pillow because I couldn't sleep at night. I even used the Google translator in Japanese to make sure he understood that I was sick and I couldn't sleep. He refused to give me an extra pillow and said that if I wanted I could go buy one at the grocery store! Which hotel staff refuses to give an extra pillow to one of of his guests? Especially considering that the hotel wasn't full so it's not like they were out of pillows. As a result I had to sleep using my airplane pillow (see pic). He was grumpy and rude the whole time. Last but not least, everyday you are REQUIRED to leave your room from 10:30AM to 3PM. Basically with the excuse of cleaning the room they force all the guests to leave the hotel for 4 and half hours. During this time the lights and the heat are off so my suspicion is that this is just a way for the owner to save money of electricity and water bills. The rooms indeed got cleaned much faster than that. In conclusion you pay top $$$ to have an outdated room, a mean owner and your room available to you for only 19 and 1/2 hours per day instead of 24h. Avoid it.

Yelp
We stayed at this Ryokan in the Asakusa area for 1 night. We wished we stayed longer. The ryokan is small and intimate. Rooms are basic; yet, clean and well-maintained. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and willing to assist us. The sauna area was great after dinner. I asked the front desk if having a tattoo was an issue. It was not an issue and stated they do not ban anyone with tattoos compared to other Ryokans who are very strict with this. Breakfast was very good and prepared well for a set meal. Everything in the Asakusa District is accessible by foot and we did not feel lost. There are tons of restaurants in the area and lots of shopping experiences.

Yelp
I spilt the cost for this place with someone so I don't recall how expensive this place is, but I didn't find it too expensive. I've spent more and received less. This place wasn't the typical Ryokan experience that I thought it would be. The bathrooms are a little old feeling, but after 2mos in China lemme tell you they worked better than my dorm's bathroom did. The sleeping area was comfortable and clean. Which is what we desperately needed. I didn't like that the hotel kicked you out from 10am to like 6pm daily. I love sleeping in. However, it did get me out to see more of Tokyo. I can't comment on the TVs because I never felt the need to watch them. The air conditioning works REALLY well. We froze. Lol. The breakfasts were all right. We only had them once since they were a bit pricey and you do get a lot of food for the cost. The staff was SUPER friendly, helpful, and polite! They handled our insanely heavy luggage - traveling the world for a year for school will do that - and let us leave it there when we got to Tokyo earlier than we planned from Osaka. PS they also gave us free green tea to take home so I'm happy.

Yelp
Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu was a really great place to stay during my first visit back to Japan after living there over a decade ago. I wanted to stay somewhere during my short trip that felt like the Japan I had come to love during the time I lived there, and this ryokan delivered. I loved how clean everything was, even when it wasn't the most stylish of hotels. The tatami was fresh and clean, and while the bathroom amenities were likely Showa-era, I felt comfortable, as though coming home after a long time away. I could have stayed in a western-style hotel, but I had the sneaking suspicion that a western-style bed would have been less comfortable than the futon rolled out on the floor when I arrived. Each day I was there, the room was cleaned meticulously, and everything put back perfectly into place. The ryokan staff were *incredibly* helpful, providing directions and advice in English when I needed suggestions. They were ready and able to provide advice when I needed transit help as well. Also, while the ryokan closes its desk around 11:00 pm, they provide a door code for visitors who need to come back in after a night out If I were to ding them on score, my only complaint would be that guests aren't given the option of a "come back later" door tag for cleaners - you have to be out of there by around 10:00 AM, and you have to stay out till around 3:00. While this worked because of all the putzing around I wanted to do, I love sleeping in, so from that perspective, a more flexible cleaning time would have been appreciated. Overall, loved the space and definitely recommend it for people wanting something more traditional in the Japanese sense.

Yelp
Although the baths are very nice, and have a great view of the temple and tree tower, the rest of the ryokan is plain Jane. Rooms are expensive because of their location. The executive suites, are about the level of a Motel 6. Bathrooms are tired and worn. In addition, just a reminder, that if you come during the change of seasons, the heat will be off. Although I was in an executive suite, the TV did not work. It would've been nice to have 30 minutes to just wind down because area shops all close very early. In addition, paper screens have holes and bedding had some spots and stains.
