From the moment we stepped into Ryokan Gojyuan, it felt like we’d been whisked away to Kyoto—without ever leaving Sydney. Linda, the gracious sole owner-operator, welcomed us with such care and attention, walking us through Japanese customs and rituals in the most gentle and engaging way. Her ninja husband worked quietly behind the scenes, ensuring everything ran with flawless precision (and possibly invisibility!). The food was absolutely stunning—delicately prepared, beautifully presented, and full of authentic flavour. It was clear every detail was done with love and pride. The bathhouse was a true highlight. Serene, calming, and beautifully maintained, it was a perfect way to unwind. And while sleeping on a traditional Japanese futon was a new experience for us, it was far more comfortable than we expected—we slept soundly and felt utterly cosy throughout. The entire place is a labour of love, filled with care, culture, and tranquility. Linda has created something truly special. A must-do for anyone looking for an authentic, soul-soothing Japanese experience right here in Balmain.

Had the pleasure of staying at Ryokan Gojyuan with wife wife to celebrate our anniversary. This little gem transports you from the buzz of urban life straight to the tranquility of rural Japan. Everything here is done to perfection and the attention to detail is unbelievable. Linda is an amazing host and we just loved to hear her stories and her passion for the Jap culture. Will definitely be back again. Thanks again Linda

The tranquil ambience of Ryokan Gojyuan took our stress away the moment we entered the lovingly curated family home. We were in Kyoto without leaving Sydney. 💚

We had the privilege of staying at Ryokan Gojyuan last night, and I feel bad about finding this hidden gem so late. Everything here was absolutely amazing! The Japanese garden design is simply exquisite, providing a serene and picturesque atmosphere that immediately transports you to another world. The attention to detail and care put into every aspect of Ryokan Gojyuan is truly remarkable. The warm hospitality and genuine passion of the Owner Linda for Japanese culture shine through in every aspect of the experience. The ready availability of traditional Japanese sake and tea, along with the stocked fridge of cold beverages and Japanese snacks on the table, were a delightful touch. It's evident that Ryokan Gojyuan isn't just a business, but a labor of love aimed at sharing a deep appreciation for Japanese culture with everyone who visits. We are fortunate to have booked an entire night's stay rather than just a two-hour bath, as every moment was a pleasure, and we felt like one day and night were not nearly enough to fully immerse ourselves in this enchanting environment. I highly recommend everyone to experience this idyllic oasis and the impeccable care provided by the host. Ryokan Gojyuan is a truly extraordinary place, and I have no doubt that everyone who visits will give it the highest possible rating. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

I LOVE Japanese stuff Like anything that’s Japanese but because I’m under the age of 16, I’m not allowed to go. I’m so annoyed. Still probably a five star

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and looking to come back for an overnight stay! We had the Hinoki Bath package which left us very relaxed and calm. The host Linda was lovely and the Ryokan is filled wonderful decor sourced from Japan. They also provided handmade Japanese desserts (gluten free friendly) with a delicious tea. Amazing experience!

We enjoyed a two night stay in this very quaint accommodation in a very interesting suburb of Sydney. Our welcome was warm, our accommodation unique and the hospitality excellent. Linda takes great pleasure in sharing her passion for Japan. I haven't visited Japan as yet but if this little Eden is anything to go by, I can't wait. Our breakfast was interesting and delicious, I love Linda's presentation and the beautiful utensils used to serve even a calming cup of tea. The bath is something on it's own. Especially looking out on the beautiful garden, sipping Sake and sampling Linda's treats while relaxing in the warmth of the water. Again, every comfort is catered for. My partner was working over the weekend so it was wonderful for him to come back to this paradise to relax. Would I recommend it? Definitely!!

I booked the Hinoki Bath and I'd like to give a 10/10 for this wonderful experience. I absolutely enjoyed the tea, the bath and my private time there. I've never been to Japan but Ryokan Gojyuan made me feel like I was in Japan not Sydney. Thank you Linda for your hospitality.
