The ryokan-hotel's sign says, "Ryokan Umibe no Kakure yu Seiryu". I'm not sure why TripAdvisor shortened it so much.||By now, I've stayed at many ryokans and ryokan-hotels. If this was my first time, I would give this hotel four stars. However, this hotel is a typical establishment that had its heyday during Japan's bubble. They do the necessary maintenance, but don't seem to have the resources to do capital improvements. The decor hasn't been updated for decades.||The food was good, but it didn't wow me like the first time I had a kaiseki meal. Breakfast was good too. There was a LOT of food.||The indoor bathing area was adequate, but I didn't use the outdoor facilities (only visited them). The outdoor tubs are located at the bottom of steep stairs. I didn't see comfortable walking down the wet steps in slippers. It was slippery even with my normal shoes. In any case, it's always nice to end the day with a full-body soak.||The Yuru Camp (manga) girls used the onsen bath here after visiting the Tombolo.||There are Level 2 EV chargers in the parking lot.

It is far away and suitable for self-driving. But the Tatami Hot Spring Hotel is worth experiencing. Kaiseki cuisine is very good. When the weather is good, you can watch the sunset

Our first stay in the countryside after Tokyo. Beautiful estate, even though a bit outdated, but it gives it a certain charm. Views from the rooms onto the ocean are stunning. Sunsets are immaculate. They have strict policies and rules for everything here but hey anywhere in Japan. Friendly staff. Food was traditional and fresh prepared. Love our stay and experience here.l

We had a really lovely stay here. Staff were very kind, the food was great, and the sea view from the onsen was fantastic. You could tell that some of the fixtures had seen better days, but no issues with hygiene - the facility was immaculate. I wholeheartedly recommend giving this place a try - you won’t regret it.

Good: The views from the room and onsen, the sound of the see. The rooms were spacious. Not good: The photos on the website do not reflect reality. The place is in poor condition, with broken parts everywhere that haven't been repaired. There's a smell of humidity and years of use in the corridors and elevator. Going to the private onsens is an adventure, recommended only if you're not afraid of strange insects and other sea creatures that might appear, and if you don't mind the abundance of spider webs. The corridor to the private onsens is almost falling apart; don't look up at the ceiling. Even the amazing view from the room was spoiled due to the balcony being completely destroyed with rotten pieces of wood sticking out and the railing broken and rusted. The indoor Onsen walls were black with mould, most of the lockers were broken and the wooden parts were rotten and falling apart. In the hallways there were small counters that we imagine at one point in the past might have functioned like small bars but at the moment they were unmanned and a quick peek behind the counter revealed years of grime and stains around the taps and lower walls. We felt that many of these issues could have been easily addressed, like removing the spider webs in the private onsens or replacing some broken handrails, so we concluded that the hotel doesn't really care. That's why we decided to cancel our last night and go somewhere else. To our surprise, even though we had paid for the night, we were asked to leave at 10:00. I wanted to take a shower and pack my things but didn't have time, even though the night was already paid for! We complained about this but were still asked to leave by 11:00 at the latest. I wonder if they intended to put our room back for rental that same day. By the way, the shower in our room was clogged and the water didn't drain properly. We tried the breakfast, but we weren't surprised that we didn't like it, given the state of the hotel. It feels like no one cares there. Unfortunately, this was not a good experience and it kind of ruined our holidays. Don't be fooled by the pictures!

We hold high expectations of this hotel given the impression from the photos. Actually the hotel is rather dated. The room rate was quite reasonable. The best thing we thought must be the public onsen and the complimentary private onsen, but actually very disappointed. First, there are two private onsens, one bigger and one smaller. The front desk assigned the time slot for us when checking in. We checked in around 5 pm when only one time slot for the small onsen was left. We are required to first wash ourselves at the public onsen, re-dress ourselves, go to the front desk not earlier than 5 minutes before the designated time for the key, proceed outdoor and decend downhill for about one minute before reaching the private onsens. The bad thing was the rain and wind. Worse of that was that the onsen had a round tub merely sufficient for two people to squeeze in. The worst thing of all is that the wooden structure facing the ocean which was half step away from the tub, was completely open like a door opening without the door. When sitting inside the tub, we feel like hanging over the cliff and had no sense of safety. We left in less than 5 minutes. Food is only average. The live abalone for grill and wine steaming was better seen than eaten. I stayed in another two hotels next to this one. Both provided very substantial afternoon drinks and snacks while there was nothing here.

I stayed here for a night. The first thing that got my attention were the staff. They really showed great customer service. The room where I stayed has a nice sea view, and free Japanese sweets and tea. The room has some safety boxes too. If there is one thing that i hope they change, it's the hair blower. It is quite old. 😅 The room has its own bath, but you may also try their public bath. One can reserve an outdoor onsen as well. This outdoor onsen was really a great experience for me. For food, they serve delicious meals which are mostly seafood. They're really fresh 🐟.

We wanted to try something different outside the normal locations people visit when going to japan, it was a few hours in a bus from the closest train station but in my opinion well worth the extra effort. The whole family enjoyed the traditional Japanese rooms and food, including breakfast, the preset pre paid dinner was exceptional value, fresh abalone cooked on coal in front of you, good sashimi and various other seafood. The private onsen on our balcony was amazing with spectacular views, the staff were fantastic especially the one appointed to making sure we had everything we needed (sorry forgot her name) you choose a hotel like this for the views and relaxation it offers 9/10 for me
