Great experience! The ryokan is close to the village centre. Room was spacious and very comfortable. The private bath was amazing, we loved it. ||Breakfast was very tasty and with a great variety. Dinner was good (but not great given the price).

We had a truly wonderful experience at Wakaba Ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and every detail felt thoughtfully prepared. What stood out the most was the warmth of the service — the staff were genuinely kind, attentive, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The traditional room was clean and comfortable, and the onsen was relaxing and well-maintained. If you’re looking for a heartfelt, authentic Japanese ryokan experience, Wakaba Ryokan is highly recommended!

Great location, spacious comfortable room, very clear, excellent service and extremely friendly staff. Last be not least, very tasty Japanese meals with a touch of fusion. Price is very reasonable consider what this Ryokan offers.

9 trips to Japan, 4-5 Ryokans per trip. I had visited Wakaba already in 2016 during my first trip. I decided to come back and was quite happy to! My room was good and spatious (south wing). The onsen is one of the best in town! Unfortunately open to the public until 9PM so it's a bit busy. Food was not excellent in my opinion, but still very good. They put cheese on a lot of the fish which was a bit weird.

We had an exceptional stay at Wakaba. We know the services at Ryokans is most always top notch but our stay here in mid-March was just about perfect. Thien was our attendant and I don't think we could have found someone better. The kitchen also outdid themselves, we had a meal we will remember for long and that is not always a given. The onsen was just at a perfect temperature (the private ones were too hot for us though) and we didn't even bother visiting the other ones in Kurokawa. All in all, we cannot recommend this place enough.

Amazing authentic Japanese experience. I loved this place and highly recommend. Wonderful both outdoor and a tiny private onsens. Incredibly nice and helpful staff (a man drove me to the next village so I could catch a morning bus to Aso). Delicious food!

We had a fantastic stay here. The facilities, food and location are great but the lovely, attentive service really made it. Very highly recommended.

We visited Ryokan Wakaba over the new year holidays in early January. We've booked two rooms for our family of 6 and had an amazing and relaxing time. The staff were lovely and caring, spoke good English with great attention to detail throughout our stay. Kurokawa is a lovely traditional small onsen town, it has a festival 湯あかり over winter months which bamboo lights create a heavenly view at night.
