Ryokufuso was by far the best place I stayed while in Japan. The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to speak in English. It felt like staying in a friend's home. The onsen was always very clean and stocked with anything you'd need. The rooms were very comfortable and allowed you to experience a more traditional stay than most other places in Japan, as the other places we stayed seemed to adopt more Western practices. We also had the absolute pleasure of having both dinner and breakfast while there and the chefs are very talented. Overall, the staff of Ryokufuso played a large part for why our group says Kyoto is the best city to visit. We will be back!

We had an excellent stay at Ryokufuso! The staff were warm and spoke excellent English, they assisted us with storing our bags before and after our stay. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. The kaiseki meal and Japanese breakfast were delicious and well matched to the season. The onsen was clean and comfortable. The location was very conveniently close to a bus line and Kyoto station. I can’t say enough good things about the facilities and staff. A perfect Ryokan for someone that wants all the tradition and care without any stuffiness or pretension.

Our stay at this traditional Japanese Ryokan was nothing short of perfect. From the moment we checked in, we were welcomed by the sweetest elderly lady, whose warmth set the tone for our entire stay. The staff throughout were incredibly kind and helpful, making us feel completely at home. The room was beautifully designed with tatami mats, futons, and yukatas — everything that embodies the authentic Japanese experience. The entire property was spotless, calm, and so well maintained. The public bath was also a wonderful and relaxing experience, adding to the charm of the stay. This was, without doubt, our best day in Japan. Everything — from the comfort to the hospitality — was simply flawless. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a true Japanese Ryokan experience in Kyoto!

Absolutely loved our stay here (3 nights)! Room was spacious enough to hold our luggages (4 total, about 2 fully opened). The staff and the kaiseki breakfasts really made our stay memorable. The staff were so friendly and can recognize us instantly upon coming back from our day excursions and the breakfast changes everyday but was so good every time and was ready so fast! There is also an little onsen on site, which is a nice way to wind down. Highly recommend if you are looking for a traditional ryokan :)

If you are looking to stay in a ryokan while in Japan, I absolutely would recommend Ryokufuso. The room was surprisingly spacious, with more than enough room for my girlfriend and I’s luggage. The staff was fantastic, they answered any and all questions we ha and were very attentive to us. They also provided a binder in the room that gave a rundown of most things you would need to know, including how to properly wear a yukata. I used the public bath at 6am when it opened and had it all to myself which was very relaxing and peaceful and encourage everyone to try out. We also had the Japanese breakfast, which was a real treat and would recommend to anyone traveling. Thank you again to the kind staff, you all were so great and made the experience that much better!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️||Staying one night at Ryokofuso in Kyoto was an unforgettable experience. From the very first moment, the staff’s kindness made us feel genuinely welcomed, with a warmth that truly reflects traditional Japanese hospitality.||One detail we especially appreciated was the option to leave our luggage before check-in, which allowed us to explore Kyoto freely and stress-free. Small gestures like this make a big difference when traveling.||Wearing the yukatas provided by the ryokan was another highlight — it made us feel like real Japanese locals, fully immersed in the culture. Walking through the ryokan dressed in yukata added a magical touch to the stay.||The facilities themselves are beautiful and carefully designed, transporting you straight into vintage Japan. Every corner reflects tradition, calm, and authenticity, creating a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly contrasts with the busy city outside.||If you’re looking for a ryokan that combines kindness, comfort, and a true sense of Japanese tradition, Ryokofuso is an absolute must in Kyoto. We would come back without hesitation.

Our stay at this beautiful Japanese-style hotel was outstanding. The breakfast alone is worth the trip and the stay – lovingly prepared with great attention to detail, offering a changing menu each day. Guests can choose between a Japanese or Western breakfast; we opted for the Japanese one and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms are charmingly decorated, and we also chose a Japanese-style interior, which was spotlessly clean. The hotel owner and the staff were all incredibly kind, attentive, and warm-hearted, creating a very welcoming and familiar atmosphere. Thank you so much for this heartfelt hospitality and for an unforgettable stay!

Yelp
A ryokan/ bath house type of lodging is very unique to Japan so we wanted to experience it for at least one night. You're guaranteed to pay 3 times more than more economical lodging options (e.g. AirBnB. guesthouse, etc.), but I think it's worth it for what's included! The highlight definitely was the kaiseki dinner/ breakfast; both were INCLUDED with your booking. Kaiseki is a traditional multi-course Japanese meal. There aren't very many places in the USA that do it right and it's always usually very expensive anywhere you go. The fact that all three of us were getting it with our stay was a steal, in my opinion! First, to describe our stay. Staff was easily very accommodating and hospitable. We were able to leave our luggage there in the morning before our check-in time and they even had it delivered to our room for when we would eventually arrive. We selected our dinner time (6-8pm), then when we came back, we were greeted in the hotel lobby with hot tea and packaged manju. Afterwards, we were led up to our room. Rooms are traditionally Japanese meaning that they are outfitted with tatami mats and sliding shoji doors. You do have a modern toilet and sink and also your own private bath in case you don't feel comfortable using the public bath (located on the 6th floor). We put on the yukatas that were provided to us and went down to the dining room. As mentioned, dinner was amazing! Dishes came out gradually as they were prepared fresh by the full service kitchen staff, including a very prestigious looking executive chef. The multi-course meal started off with several small appetizers, then moved on to sashimi, vegetable served with fish, a flame grilled meat, steamed food, deep fried food, vinegar-ed food, miso soup with rice, and then dessert. We were offered very general descriptions and there was so much to absorb but all was easily enjoyable and was certainly one of the most memorable meals of our trip! Not only was it full of flavor, but it tasted light and clean. We hadn't originally scheduled to have breakfast, but after that meal we changed our minds when they asked if we were scheduling our reservation for breakfast. When we came back to our rooms, our futons had already been laid out and prepared by the staff. I slept on a couple of futons while in Japan. All were surprisingly very comfortable and the ones here were especially so! Such a unique stay! I loved everything about it and I'm glad that we collectively decided to fork out just a little more to make it happen.

Yelp
This is such a gem of a place! My boyfriend booked this hotel for our stay in Kyoto when we were in Japan late last month. The old lady in the front desk was sooo friendly, helpful, and kind. Check in was at 4pm, if I remember correctly. We arrived in Kyoto at like noon at the time so we asked if we can leave our luggage with them while we go out exploring & they accommodated. The lady gave us manju & iced tea, and she explained to us how get to the places that we were aiming to go to while staying in Kyoto. She's such a sweetheart! More hotels, airports, and restaurants need people like her. Seriously! So we picked this place cause we wanted to have unique Japan experience. This place definitely exuberates that vibe. We slept on these little futon beds that the staff set up for us after we return back from dinner. They keep the beds in the closet during the day & set it out at night for sleepy time. Our room had a bathroom room so we didn't have to go use the public bath in the hotel. So that was good. Haha..I'm not about being naked in front of strangers; not even at my gym! There was hot water in the water kettle with a box of tea leaves awaiting for us in the room. So we had a little tea time before heading out to dinner. Plus, we even tried out the yukatas as provided and had a mini photoshoot in our room & in the lobby. Haha.. also, there's a way to where the yukata. The right first & then the left. So all in all.. This place is like an authentic Japanese ryokan. Loved it! :)

Yelp
Ryokufuso is just a lovely experience all around as both a ryokan and a hotel to stay. The staff is so kind and nice while the facilities are fun to be in. They provide yukatas as well as explaining how to wear them. There is a public bath area with instructions in English. It doesn't have any spectacular views but is super warm and does the trick. I also had the opportunity to get the breakfast in their dining area which was a very filling breakfast with a lot of food from agedashi tofu to a cooked fish. The location (as a lot of things in Japan) are a wee bit further than you might expect, especially with the roads being a bit more wobbly getting to it but it's in a great part of town where everything isn't too far off. Highly recommended.
