Very nice rooms. Good staff. Unfortunately some guests are disrespectful, allowing their children to use public onsens as swimming pools with drinks and throwing rocks. Also public entrance had trash from guests :( Everything is nice. Just some guests ruin a pristine place.

We chose Ryoso Makibanoie for our one-night stay in Yufuin because we wanted to enjoy beautiful hot springs in a place that would be a bit removed from the main shopping area. The inn was just far enough away from the center of town to feel a sense of space without being inconvenient to walk back and forth. The accommodations were comfortable and everything was very clean but the service was phenomenal. Even though we don't speak Japanese and the staff does not speak a lot of English, we found enough common ground to understand everything that was needed for check-in, explanation of hot springs procedures, and enjoyment of our kaseki meal. The staff was so attentive that they noticed my daughter was between sizes on both her slippers and her yukata and they brought correctly sized items to our room without us having to request them. We greatly enjoyed the hot springs experience and liked that there were different areas within the open space where we could move around to experience different temperatures. The setting was so peaceful and beautiful that we were tempted to stay another night and probably would have if we had not pre-booked travel out of town. The most amazing part of our stay was definitely our meal though. Word of advice--if you plan on eating the kaseki meal, limit the number of snacks you eat in town! The food was incredibly delicious and varied and our only regret was that we ate too much beforehand to be able to eat every bite as we did not realize how much food would be provided. Wonderful, wonderful experience. Highly recommend.

Stayed one night in October 2024. Room 5/5 - Spacious, clean, and neat. Onsen 5/5 - Gorgeous! Spectacular view! There is a water dispenser near the onsen, so no need to bring water bottle to the onsen. Service 4/5 - The staffs are friendly but no one showed us around the facility. Dinner and Breakfast 3.5/5 - Taste and ingredients are average. No memorable or outstanding dish. However, the portion is generous. Breakfast is better than dinner. Facility 3/5 - Agree with other reviews, it is difficult to move the luggage on the cobblestone walkway. Also, all private shower rooms are located in the parking lot and you must get the key from the front desk every time you want to use it.

This is the first time to visit the Fukuoka, and this hotel is the first hotel after landing. We lend the car and drive there from the Fukuoka airport. Since I didn't sleep much on the night before, but I am still able to manage 2+ hours driving there. The staff there is very nice. They even remind you of the weather on the next day during your dinner time, which i think is a very warm service. The staff there are very nice and they will say morning to you when they saw you.

This is a beautiful hotel located within a short walking distance to all of the main attractions of Yufuin. The property consists of 12 stand-alone rooms with varying sizes so you can enjoy the utmost privacy. Rooms were clean and the futons were comfortable. Ryokan staff were all extremely friendly. The dinner and breakfast were fresh, beautifully-plated, high quality, and delicious. There are two large open air baths and they swap genders daily, so you can visit both during your stay. Those baths were stunningly beautiful and there are few experiences in the world that can compare to enjoying an onsen under the stars. Each room is assigned a private bath that is located by the parking lot. You will need to pick up a key from the front desk to access the private bath. The room I stayed in had a toilet and sink, but no shower. The only available showers were in the onsen areas, which was not an issue for me but could be inconvenient if you just want a quick rinse before bed during a hot summer day. In addition, I'm wondering if the front desk can simply leave the key to the private bath in the room... if each room is assigned its own bath, this should make it more convenient for both the guests and the staff, right? Don't forget to go off the beaten path and check out the nearby rice fields. Very few tourists go to that area and you can see what the true countryside looks like.

Room was big and clean, basic amenities provided. Location is good - short 10 min walk away from the JR station and the town centre, so food and sights are easily accessible. Daiso and supermarket is 3 mins away. Room only has toilet and sink, and while every room is allocated a private bathhouse, these private baths are a walk away, behind the rooms and near the carpark. You have to ask for the key from the reception before each use. So every time you wish to take a shower you have to get the key and walk out - depending on the weather (and if you are travelling with elderly or young kids) it may or may not be a pleasant or convenient experience. The public bath for those staying in the ryokan was nice. Ryokan is pretty, but the pebbled paths may not be the most convenient if you are coming with luggage.

Wonderful experience. Fantastic location. Had our own cottage to ourselves. The public and private onsen were all great. Had dinner/breakfast one night and it was very good with lots of local foods. 5 star experience all around. I cannot recommend more highly.
