We were very pleased with our stay at this place. The guesthouse is located very close to the bus stop with departures to Kamikōchi, which made it especially convenient. The room we were assigned was quite small (three futons and a table filled the entire space), but this was more than made up for by the outdoor wooden onsen. It was the first place where we could enjoy an onsen as a family. If one of the baths was available, you could enter together and flip a small wooden sign on the door to indicate "in use." We used it right after check-in and again early the next morning, so we didn’t have to wait. There are three such baths on the property, including one fully outdoors with a mountain view. There’s also a shared space equipped with a large fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, and coffee machine, as well as complimentary tea and coffee. Just outside the common area is a massage chair that offers a surprisingly good free massage. The interior is decorated with beautiful stained-glass art, which adds a unique charm to the place.

I stayed at Ryoso Tsuyukusa during my recent driving quest, and it was an absolutely lovely experience. The guesthouse is incredibly traditional, with charming touches like wooden block locks for the doors that add a unique and nostalgic feel. The rooms are classic tatami-style, ryokan-style accommodation, where you make your own futon bed—simple, warm, and very comfortable. The highlight for me was the private onsen. There’s even an outdoor one, also private, which made for a truly relaxing and serene soak. It’s rare to find private baths like this at such a reasonable price point. On the ground floor, there’s a shared living area where you can grab a coffee from the machine and a slice of bread from the fridge in the morning—simple but appreciated. All instructions and check-in/check-out procedures are done via tablet and QR codes, likely to streamline communication, especially for international guests. As long as you have a phone with internet access, the process is seamless. That said, they also provide free Wi-Fi just in case. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which I think would be ideal for one or two people at most. For me, traveling solo, it was perfect. Overall, a very comfortable and memorable stay. Highly recommended. Note for EV drivers: While there’s no charger in the guesthouse car park, there is a free high-speed CHAdeMO charger just around the corner at the bus station area, which was super convenient.

Stayed here for day tripping in Kamikochi, perfect location. Clever self-check-in system, with a video to help and even tablets and printouts of FAQs to assist those of us who can't speak Japanese, they've really thought of everything, very thoughtful! Also very friendly and patient when we did cross paths with them. There's a massage chair which really gets into the muscles after a long day walking, free. And the private onsens were perfect, just go in and lock the door, robes and towels provided. The 2 inside are very hot so you won't stay in long and therefore won't have to wait long either. 1 outside which is cooler, but we always managed to get in. Tea, coffee, and a small bread roll or slice with jam available for breakfast was a nice snack. Loved the stained glass of each room name's flowers too. Just a really thoughtful place.

Close to the bus station and very clean! The owner is helpful even though he can't speak English. But somehow we connect with body language 😂 The private onsen was impressive! It's the highlight even if you need to queue. Definitely will come back!

Although it looks ordinary, the owner of this place is genuinely friendly and nice. Be it the food, the location to sleep or overall check in/out service, it is truly mind blowing. The best takeaway there is the PRIVATE onsen with extremely good hygiene and lots of space to just relax and wash away the burnout. This place is definitely underrated.

Don't let the image of this guest house fools you. This guest house is simply the best for its price. Very clean, the toilet is top notch, the open air onsen with beautiful view. This guess house only have 1 open air onsen and 2 indoor onsen for you to take shower. If you dont want to do onsen, they have 2 shower that you can use in first floor inside indoor onsen. Worry not, all of the onsen is private. No one can speak english, but grandma Echo is very kind, very warm person you ever met.

Wonderful apartment with good facilities, including a massage chair that you can use freely. Comes with one open air and two indoor onsens. When I first saw this place, I had my questions regarding the usage of the onsens and how it is "private", but after staying here, I am glad I chose this place. And if you are visiting kamikochi from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal, it is only a two minutes walk away. In terms of food, the restaurants recommended by the owner were terrific.

Had a lovely stay two days ago. The owner was nice, and the house was very clean and homely. I was very impressed by the plentiful custom stained-glass artwork that gave the place a very warm and lived-in feeling. The outdoor onsen was equally amazing- no chorine or anything like that. They also provided some coffee and bread rolls for breakfast, but you will need to source your breakfast elsewhere if you want a substantial meal before hiking kamikotchi
