The Best Hotels in Lisbon, From Bairro Alto to Chiado | Condé Nast Traveler

"Across from seafood icon Cervejaria Ramiro, this imposing 20th-century corner landmark delivers big on style without the big price tag—one of Lisbon’s nicest affordable stays—after a 2019 transformation that wove Portuguese artworks into its original nooks. I appreciate the thoughtful details: a warming green-and-purple palette, black face towels for makeup, and staff who greet you by name. Rooms are distinctive—from “Square Rooms” over lively Largo do Intendente to three “Attic Rooms” with a private lobby (book separately or together)—and the splurge-worthy “King of Dome” suite unlocks the emblematic dome for a memorably special stay." - Abigail Malbon

As a sometimes solo traveler it is important for me to feel comfortable in the places I stay. I arrived to the hotel after an especially frustrating journey and Andre, at the front desk, greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel right at ease. In my room I was welcomed with a local sampling of their renowned pastry, Patel de Mara and local cherry liquor. The included buffet breakfast in the morning was delicious and the choices were plentiful! Staff were friendly and helpful whenever I had questions (or asked for more of the complimentary cherry liquor lol). The bed was comfortable, the rooms clean and although I faced a busy street, had sound proof shutters that opened up to a pleasant balcony to let in the fresh air. Walkable to many sites, otherwise very accessible to public transportation or Uber. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

We stayed 4 nights in a superior room, the hotel is stunning with its Art Deco Architecture, high ceilings in the rooms. And super comfortable bed. Bedrooms are spacious for Europe we overlooked plaza area and with windows closed there was no noise. The reception staff are helpful and are delightful to deal with, any queries are answered, help and solutions always offered. Our stay involved an extra night due to un unexpected hospital visit and the team at the Front Desk couldn’t have done enough, facilitating our extra night stay in the same room, at a price level equivalent to the other nights. Excellent breakfast in restaurant Great restaurants in local area, especially the Italian Fellini and fish restaurants And easy stroll downtown

The service and facilities are fabulous from the warm welcome we received from Elena, the comfortable room with an amazing view, the complimentary pastel de nata and ginjinha. The location is a bit out of the way but you can see it is an area that is being gentrified with some nice restaurants close by. We would love to stay here again.

Excellent staff, excellent hotel. They provided the best hotel breakfast that we've ever had with a superb buffet and several made-to-order items. Most important: the coffee was among the best that we had in Portugal. Would also recommend the hotel's restaurant for dinner, which included several traditional Portuguese offerings. The room was spacious and clean. The staff is excellent.

We spent 3 nights here on a recent trip to Portugal. The architecture of the building creates anticipation as you walk to the front door. Although this is a smaller hotel compared to the larger brands, this hotel carries it's weight. We were upgraded to larger king room. The rooms are well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff were always smiling and willing to assist. Breakfast was delicious and included items you could order off a menu as well as typical European breakfast buffet selections. There is easy access to the metro and historic sites are nearby. We loved it and would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique lodging experience in Lisbon.

Lovely hotel very well re-furbed. Delightful staff and a good restaurant, Infame. Quality breakfast. We had super upgraded room with balcony overlooking place at back ie off the main road so quiet. Spotlessly clean. One draw back is location - a little out of centre but Ubers readily available and cheap say €6 into town.

Truly a wonderful hotel! We only stayed one night at the end of our Portugal trip as it was picked for its convenience to the airport, but I wish we could have stayed longer.||The building is beautiful and they’ve thoroughly remodeled the hotel to high specifications. Awesome are and tasteful touches abound in this hotel.||We had originally planned our last night there because it is a literal straight shot to the airport 20 minutes away, even with traffic. We planned to take a taxi to the airport in the morning, but the rental car agent had said we should just keep the car for the last night and we could drop off at the airport for a small fee. He said there was parking nearby, but that did not turn out to be true. ||After returning from the Algarve we arrived at the 1908 Lisboa and found ourselves circling the hotel on busy, narrow streets. Finally we found a spot to temporarily park the car and went in to the lobby. To our surprise and delight, the front desk staff offered to park our car for us overnight in a secure location for free! It turns out it was included in the cost of our room. I didn’t know that, as I hadn’t planned on having a car for that night during our original planning and hadn’t made inquiries.||Because of our early departure, the staff parked the car right across the plaza from the hotel and it was secure all night. ||The staff were marvelous and were beyond helpful in many regards.||We booked the smaller, “Cozy” room since we were only staying for one night, but it turned out to be bigger than what I thought it would be and made great use of the space. The bathroom was large and the whole room was clean and modern.||Attached is the restaurant “Inflame” and it was great. We had our last dinner of the trip there and it was delicious. They even let my wife order from the children’s menu because she wasn’t terribly hungry. ||In the morning the hotel provided us breakfast for free at Inflame and it was a great, full breakfast and it was prepared in a timely manner. We ordered eggs cooked to our preference instead of eating from the full continental buffet. ||I would highly recommend staying here for multiple days if it fits your plans.

What an excellent find in the heart of Lisbon. Starting with the service, we were so warmly greeted by each staff, going above and beyond for a pleasant stay. The rooms are really tastefully designed, spacious, clean and super comfortable bedding and bed. Location was great, we were able to walk everywhere. Lastly the breakfast was perfect. Extensive fruit, nuts options, all the baked goods and bread, and a great warm menu to choose from: from Benedict eggs to avocado toast and etc. In the common space there was also pleasant corners to work from, which seem like many guests were doing. Perfect stay, would def recommend
