As someone who travels specifically for food and often dines in fine-dining restaurants around the world, my experience at Nur was unfortunately one of the most disappointing I’ve had.
First, the experience described on the website simply doesn’t match reality. The site promises a 2.5-hour tasting menu, yet our entire meal was served in under an hour. None of the dishes resembled the photos online, and the food itself felt like a hodgepodge of the same few ingredients with no clear connection, progression, or narrative. Presentation was minimal and not at the level one would expect given the price point or the chef’s stated experience.
Service also fell short. Our first server placed dishes silently and walked away as if embarrassed; while I understand she may not speak English or French, it’s hard to justify putting her in this role when the restaurant caters almost exclusively to visitors. Only after we insisted did another server step in to explain the dishes. We were also served completely flat sparkling water, which should be a simple quality check. To top it off, my wife requested mint tea—a staple in Morocco—which took longer than any dish to prepare and ultimately never arrived; instead, we were given a saffron tea she did not order.
All of this might have been forgivable if the food were exceptional. But throughout the entire night, we kept waiting for a single redeeming dish, and sadly none delivered. Given the price—higher than many Michelin-starred restaurants in Manhattan—I left feeling completely scammed.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was far from what is advertised and does not justify the cost.
