Altha's Louisiana Cajun Store

I have been wanting to go here forever ago as I absolute love Cajun and Creole cuisine so much and been trying to get more into making food. This store has anything and everything you can ask for: different types of meats and seafood (including rabbit which is awesome), all sorts of spices and seasonings, Faygos, Blue Bell ice creams, different types of frozen gumbos that are made in house, and pies. The store is well organized and things are labelled with prices which I appreciate as you'd be surprised how even big brand names can't do that. There are some areas that get a little tight but still can shop comfortably. The service here is so welcoming and warm. Two male employees told me that they are brothers and it was neat to see that they have a section to get hot foods. They were serving gumbou (gumbo with boudin) that day and the kind gentleman offered my boyfriend and I a small sample and it was one of the best gumbos I've had that I had to grab a frozen 32oz container to share with my family as it was absolutely divine. We also were able to get smoked boudins thanks to BECU's Equity in Action where you get a free smoked boudin or one of their frozen different types of boudin. I will warn you that it does burst when you bite into it so be mindful if you are wearing anything light but it was flavorful every bite and they offer saltine crackers to go with it. Absolutely delicious and I can't wait to try the other boudins now cause I am hooked. We paired that with a cotton candy Faygo, which is my boyfriend's first time trying but it paired so well. I definitely have to stop by once a month to try out some other offerings and to grab any ingredients I need for my journey through Creole and Cajun cuisines.

Love this place. Definitely check out the gumbo. And if you know anything about those Faygo peach sodas and Blue bell ice cream. This is the spot to get it.

5 stars isn’t enough. The service was great, friendly staff, very welcoming. The selection of spices and Cajun favorites was plentiful. I ordered food and tasted it in the car, let me say I am glad I ordered extra because I devoured the boudin and the gumbo was some of the best that I’ve had. Not only will I be returning but I have told friends and colleagues.

What a wonderful taste of home! As a transplant from the gulf I am constantly searching for a taste of home down here in the Seattle area. Well I found it!! The food is fresh and well seasoned! They also have a wide variety of Louisiana delicacies!

I live in Lynnwood, but when I need southern ingredients, I drive all the way to Kent because Althas has the seasonings, and the best Smoked Turkey you can find in the Greater Puget Sound. Very friendly, and amazing customer service. Its a store that caters to everyone, but it feels like they know what Black cuisine is missing in other stores and they provide it. My grandpa is from Louisiana and anytime im in there, the smells remind me of his house. Bring me back to when he used to cook for the family.

Alternatively, or in addition, a food truck could bring their incredible offerings to a wider audience. * Strategic Partnerships: Exploring opportunities to partner with local military base commissaries could introduce their unique products to a significant and appreciative customer base. * Infrastructure Enhancements: To meet the inevitable demand, investing in a larger freezer for their coveted Blue Bell Ice Cream and offering larger containers for the take-home "Gumbou" would be beneficial. Actually just came for the gumbou. I know most of the reviews are for the grocery store part which was very cool to see many Louisiana items and nice to know where to go for great ingredients when making authentic cajun food. Let's start by saying love how owner Reginald makes everyone feel right at home weither it's your first visit or a return customer. We got an order of the gumbo and picked up bag of pork rinds. gumbo had a nice kick and packed with boudin and chicken. You can tell time and love went into developing the rue. I like how the rice came packed separate. It's a store so not really a place you eat onsite we had to head back to Rainier Beach area and it remained hot. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu. We were able to find parking easily.

Great selection of Louisiana products and all of the flavors I miss from NOLA! The owners make you feel like you're at home and the hot food is fantastic. They had some boudin when I visited and I'm glad I grabbed more than one because it transported me! If you want some real Cajun food with some homemade love, come here and make it yourself or grab some takeout and share with your family!

As a southerner who misses the great food back home, I don't know what i would do without Altha's. I can almost always find the brands I love there!

I drove all the way out there today with my little one just to try the gumbo and smoked boudin. The gumbo and rice were delicious!! I'm not sure if the gentleman who was working today was the owner but he was so cordial and welcoming. It's intimidating going into an unfamiliar area but he was very kind. The store is split. One side has a whole lot of spices and frozen goods and the other side is where he served the hot food. I will be returning in the future. It's too bad they don't have a store closer to the Lakewood/Tacoma area as I'm sure a lot of people would love the food/store.

If you are looking for Cajun spices and or food this is a great place to head to. Looking for that elusive boudin sausage it's here, crawfish meat pies are here. Lots of spices and frozen food. But wait they have a little deli space that serves a limited but tasty menu. The staff are very friendly and helpful. So head down to this little mom and pop shop for a taste nawlins

I've heard amazing stories about Altha's selection of Louisiana seasonings and food items and I had check it out for myself. My family is from my Louisiana and I grew up eating gumbo, hot water cornbread, dirty rice and much more. I also know the items to make those kinds of foods are almost impossible to find in Washington. Thankfully, Altha's is the place to go. I stopped in yesterday evening and was excited to pick up items for gumbo and their deli. Sadly, they stopped the food service due to lack of staff, but they had gumbo for sale. This place is amazing with a huge variety of foods. They have everything from turkey legs to boudin. The owner of the store was very kind and even gave us a sample of gumbo. This is the only black-owned grocery store in the state of Washington and it was great to support and celebrate and much needed addition.

If I could give them 10 stars, I would. I was looking for Cajun grocery for ages, and found them through Yelp! We came in on Saturday afternoon to check them out because it has been too long since I have gotten to enjoy gator meat. We stocked up on some sweet treats, seasonings, and got to sample their gumbo. There is no picture I can take or description I can give to do the flavor justice. It brought me straight back to New Orleans. We will be coming back for that soon! Many of their products come directly from Louisiana-I have family there and I was recognizing items that I've only seen in Louisiana. It made me feel emotional in a wonderful way. The man working there was a delight. He was so friendly and warm, and we had a nice conversation. This store is a hidden jewel-it has a bunch of seasonings, bases, preserves, pecan pies, pralines and frozen meats so we can recreate Southern flavors that we love in our kitchen. This was truly a pleasure, and my favorite shop of 2023 easily. Do yourself a favor and come see them!

We always stuff our suitcases when we come back from visiting my wife's family in her hometown of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana so we were beyond excited to find this place. The boudin is amazing and so was the gumbo that they call gumbou because they put a boudin link in it. They also have Bluebell ice cream so my Texan heart was in love. They have all the spices and seasonings you could dream of and so much amazing stuff from Poche's that you just can't get here. The family who owns it is so friendly and we just love it!

If you like (or LOVE) Cajun food and spices this is a place for you. Tasso? Check! Boudin? uhh Huh! Various spices, sauces and fixings that will make you feel like you're in LA. Staff are friendly and helpful. I haven't been able to try the kitchen but I'm betting it's great. I'm glad I don't live closer, I'd probably be broke and 400 lbs

What a goldmine gem right here in the south end. Finding real Boudin in Seattle is non existent but Altha's has everything.

I stopped in for lunch, ordered catfish and hush puppies. It came coleslaw and baked beans... and several dipping sauces. Everything was prepared just right. All the food pairings were perfect together. The portions were huge, more than adequate. Each dipping sauce gave a different experience of the fish. The service was personal and very friendly... a tribute to Altha. I believe her picture covers one of the windows... looks like she was a warm person. Life goes on, and this restaurant will go on. Best Cajun I've had in a long time.

This place is an absolute gem! I ordered the fried oyster po'boy and fried okra on the side. Needless to say - I'll definitely order it again. I even ate half of my sandwich for lunch the next day. The quality of their fried oysters and just how delicious it was on a sandwich is worth coming back for. As soon as we walked in, someone already greeted us at the door with a warm welcome. The restaurant is right next to and is part of the grocery store selling Southern spices and delicacies. The cashier from the restaurant was very accommodating, as I asked to replace the hush puppies that usually come with the po'boy with fried okra instead. Such an awesome find! Come here when you want to satisfy your Southern food craving!

One of my coworkers whom is from Louisiana hipped me to this spot.  I just needed some chicory coffee and maybe some filé.  Hear me when I say this place has all of that and waaaay more.  Imagine going to Gordon Ramsey's house and asking for a PB & J.  Yeah like that.  Black folks that are in touch with their southern roots be prepared as they have all of the classics: Cafe Du Monde coffee Beignet mix Red Dot Slap Ya Mama Zataran's Allum (All of them).  They even have some of the more exotic stuff.  Gator sausage is a thing.  I, for one, did not know that.  There is even a nice to-go restaurant inside with hot food.  I've only ever had the fried okra but damn was it good.  The staff as well is quite pleasant as I've had an opportunity to speak with a few of them at length.  Good people.  This is a dope establishment.  Try it out.

I'm so glad there's a local place for Cajun food. I can't be chasin' down the Where Ya At Matt food truck all over town or spend the evening driving all the way out to White Center for Crawfish House. Lucky for Kent they have a Cajun restaurant right in middle of the downtown area. I found parking on the street. A line had already formed when I got there. What's unique about this restaurant is that next door is a mini grocery store with Cajun items you won't find at Freddy's or Safeway. I don't know how to cook Cajun food but it's great that they sell condiments like Louisiana tartar sauce and hot sauce. I ordered a Po'boy and a side of red beans and rice. The wait was about 15-20 minutes. I'm glad they don't skimp on the shrimp and I definitely had leftovers. Something to think about if you're considering sharing with someone. Also they pack to-go orders in paper bags instead of plastic. Thumbs up to them for being environmentally conscious. New Orleans is a fun city to visit. I'm sure I'll be back someday but in the meantime I'm glad I can visit Altha's when I'm craving southern food. The employees are really friendly too.

Altha's has the BEST seasonings and the BEST prepared food. They're so friendly! For real people people! The store is nice and quaint. Well organized with a great vibe! I bought a gator tail and it was so fresh.

This place was really delicious. They have a Cajun store in the same building with a lot of good hot sauces. The hush puppies were my favorite side and I wish I ordered more. Overall great experience and the best fried chicken I've had in Kent. It's more of a takeout spot but there are some tables outside. It's made to order because our food was still hot by the time we walked home. The service was great as well. I can't wait to go back to this place! It seemed very popular as there were a lot of other people there ordering. I really want to try their gator nuggets.

I'm from South Louisiana living in the NW since '75...Always on the lookout for Louisisana foods and spices. Well Altha's has it!! Gumbo's are easier to make. REAL frozen Okra!! andouille sausage, species and more. Oh and the folks who run and own the place are extremely cordial. A must for La. cooks.

Altha's has the Cajun brands and the seafood ( crawfish, gulf shrimp) and meats (boudin) that you can't get here. It felt like home after being exiled for a long long time. If you aren't from the south of Louisiana, you will still highly appreciate Altha's if you like Cajun food. They also have a deli. I had a shrimp po boy and hush puppies and was so happy. So happy, happy. I will be making a monthly pilgrimage.

Came here off a recommendation and glad i did. Certainly not food you can eat daily if you want to be mindful of your figure, however if you are wanting a "cheat day" or just in the mood to satisfy your southern food craving, this place is the place to go! I ordered the Catfish, baked beans, and coleslaw and it tasted just like my grandmother's cooking. I have family roots in Louisiana, and have fond memories as a young child eating her cooking. The food at this establishment came very close to how my grandmother cooked, and it felt quite nostalgic eating here. The food wasn't oversaturated with salt and greasy like other southern cuisine dining places I've eaten at. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to try southern food, or for those who want a piece of home.

We love that a little bit of New Orleans is just down the hill from home at Altha's. We finally visited on Gumbo Friday and got the gumbo special, and an oyster po' boy with hush puppies. Big portions, enough to share. Everything was super delicious. And we also got to do some grocery shopping while there with lots of spices, and specialty foods to choose from. We will be back soon!

I was looking for a good place for southern food and a friend recommended this place . They they are actually from Louisiana and the food is amazing. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and nice. They gave me a sample of the daily special that was delicious. They just opened up their dining room and they also have a store that has a lot of different spices and meats that everyone would love. I highly recommend this place if you like Good ole southern Louisiana food

The reason for only four stars is because of prices. $27.99 for an order of 1-piece of fried catfish and 2-pieces of fried wings and a couple of very small sides is to costly for our budget, especially when you can get a whole bucket of chicken (Popeyes, KFC, etc.) for about $15.00 (specials/coupons). I love fried catfish and they know how to cook excellent catfish, and the chicken was good too. We've ordered twice for delivery, but the prices are just a bit much.

This place take you to the Deep South and Cajun country. You can tell this store is a labor of love. It just has a country/soul feel to it. The front window says it's "100% Real Soul Food, Cajun & Creole, ONLY store in Northwest that cooks and sells authentic (Cajun/Creole) Food. Wide selection of sausages including andouille, boudin, a very large variety of Louisiana Cajun spices, hot sauces, fish fry. They have a huge frozen section. I think I saw at least five large freezers with meats such as rabbit, crawfish, catfish, okra. They even have gator. It also has your traditional Cajun dishes cooked up at the deli like Po Boys, Meat Pies, Boudin, Fried Oysters, Fried Okra and On Saturday's They make Crawfish Etoufee while supplies last. Don't forget the gumbo and pecan pie. The portions are generous and tasty. I had the oyster Po Bou and Crawfish Meat Pies. They have R&B classics playing for a nice touch.

My boyfriend and I came here last week. We wanted to have a fish fry. We found catfish, and other seafood. But they had SO MUCH MORE. Seasonings you won't find anywhere else, and seafoods that's are hard to get here. Right next door they have a cafe. Our next feat is to try the cafe so we can rave about that too! I absolutely LOVE this business and everything it stands for!!!!!!! Bringing the south to Washington state. They have just about everything you can think of from seasonings to boudin! Prices are so reasonable. The special treat is the customer service. They're so sweet and helpful. Great business in our community!!!

Man oh man, being from the south, I was enthralled to find this store in Seattle. I literally gasped seeing some of the products I haven't seen in 6 years since living here. To find Conecuh sausage here, blew me away. I was so happy that I had to tell my mom back home. Before leaving the store, the owner handed me some coconut long bars. OMG, I'm talking it's been years since I've had these. Cooked food: We also purchased a seafood platter that came with catfish & shrimp. The catfish is bomb but the shrimp is a miss, needs more seasoning and a change in batter. Will certainly frequent this store.

I've been to Louisiana several times and have close friends from there as well. I've eaten my fair share of Cajun food. Gumbo, crawfish etoufee, boudin, crawfish pies, alligator and po boys. I'd been in here for Cajun groceries before the restaurant opened. Nice to be able to get authentic Cajun products right down the street. The guys running the place are super friendly too. Took my grandson down for dinner last week. It's legit a hole in the wall type of place that serves the best types of food in LA. Promising! We were given a crawfish etoufee same when we sat down. Honestly, I feel like I make the best etoufee having been given a family recipe years ago. I was prepared to be a skeptic. It was delicious! I mean really really good. We got po boys. Mild sausage for my grandson and oyster for me. They come with fries and we also ordered a side of fried okra. I have only good things to say about the food. All of it was fresh and delicious. I will be going back again and again. My only mild critique? I hope they will consider switching their to go containers to cardboard vs styrofoam, and offer a recycling receptacle in the restaurant. I feel so guilty putty styrofoam in the trash. I know that's a PNW vs LA thing, but I hope they'll consider it. The food is freshly made so come hungry but not in a hurry. Or call ahead for takeout. If they keep consistent hours and keep making this great food, they will do well!

What a cool spot! Not only is it a restaurant, it's an actual store! I talked to the owner on the phone and he stated they import their goods straight from down South (Louisiana)! Driving up I saw a variety of folks coming in and out, and parked in the area to let me know that this is a local gem! As I viewed the store area, listening to the R&B grooves meditating the atmosphere, I saw just that! The deli also creates these wonderful specials each day to keep your tastebuds guessing! BACK STORY My brother told me that if I liked Nana's Southern Kitchen I'd really like this spot too! I took a nibble of the catfish and it's among the, if not the, tastiest I've had in the Greater SEA so far! #Cayenne Definitely enjoyed their red beans and rice, along with their greens too!

I guarantee you won't be disappointed shopping at this beautiful grocery store. The owners/staff are down to earth and always greet their customers with Southern hospitality. I've learned to call before I go because sometimes things maybe out of stock due to everyone wanting the delicious Louisiana Southern herbs, spices, blue bell ice cream, etc... I've been looking for a local place to get some good Cajun food. I've lived in kent for over a decade and never knew about this place. I came in here to get some seasonings. I normally can't find slap your mama seasoning anywhere so I have my cousin ship it to me from Louisiana. I'm glad they have it. They also have Tony's seasoning which I use often. The store is set up very much like a corner store in the bodega. Very straight to the point and a lot of seasonings and Cajun food on shelves or in deep freezers. I noticed they had a restaurant in the back. So I went in there and they said the daily special was the gumbo. I went in last Friday! Cozy spot with very limited seating but she said most people get their food to go. I hadn't ate lunch so I said yepppppp! I ordered the gumbo with a side of greens and hush puppies. That gumbo was FIREEE!!! And you get a nice sized portion for the price. The flavor was insane! I didn't know what to do with myself. The greens had a good great flavor but had a good amount of vinegar in them so I added a lil sugar to cut it and the hush puppies were scrumptious. All in all I was pleased with my meal!! I have recommended this place to several people because it was so good. Definitely a new spot for seasonings and good food.

A true gem! Wow, where do I begin? My husband and I love this place. We aren't from Louisiana but can appreciate all the amazing spices and foods they sell here. Tons of stuff you can't find at any of your regular grocery stores. The owner is a true southern gentleman. Always so welcoming and friendly. Towards the back of the store they have a hot food deli where they serve po-boys, gator (the real deal), gumbo, crawfish étouffée, hush puppies and more. Everything taste so good! We're blessed to live only 10 mins away so we come as often as we can.

This place is legit. I lived in Metairie/Nola and it is delicious. If you have a low tolerance for spice, beware because everything is seasoned properly. Will be back to try their red beans and rice and grabbing some more boudin.

The oyster po boy is amazing. There are probably a dozen massive fried oysters overflowing on the roll and they're so good. The hush puppies were delicious too. I wanted to get gator nuggets, but they were sold out. I was bummed, but I guess I'll be back. It's a bit of a trek from Seattle, but worth it! The store had a lot of interesting sauces and spices, but I wasn't looking to be spendy this time. Maybe next time, I'll get something to try.

This place is amazing. It's a store selling Louisiana spices and foods and also a restaurant. Everything is shipped fresh from Louisiana. We had two catfish po'boys with fries and hush puppies. The catfish was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly and not dry. The hushpuppies were moist and seasoned well.

Exceptional selection. Like visiting a little store in Baton Rouge. Missed the boudin shipment, but loved the smoked boudin.

Folks, this store is the best. Being from Louisiana, I never imagined that I would find a store with such a wide selection of the foods, spices, and treats that I grew up with down in central Louisiana, but here it is in Kent, Washington of all places in the wide world. I happened to wander in during the Kent Cornucopia Day's last year, and I sure am glad that I did. Coincidentally, I was in urgent need of my favorite gumbo base (made by the Louisiana Fish Fry company). I am still absolutely floored by the vast selection of Louisiana foods (frozen and boxed and soon to be cooked fresh) that are available here... I could spend a couple of hours browsing in here easily! The owner is the store is a true gentleman, and he runs a great business. Trust me, give this place a shot if you are a southerner deep down (my accent is long gone, but the love of Cajun food that I have will be with me forever) or if you want to try something new; you'll be glad that you did!

Uhhhhh can someone please pinch me!!! Is this real my tummy is so happy and those whom I love and want to give some real Creole cooking too will love me also!! They have just about every seasoning you could ever want, BBQ shrimp seasons, crab cakes, boundin, boudin balls in shrimp, pork and crawfish. They have crab/crawfish boil as well as a restaurant. Marinades, injections and hot sauces you just can't get here. For those you who need a little assistance when you make a Roux they have that as well. Black owned business doing good things! This is beautiful.

Drove down from Portland,Oregon to get some boudin and seasonings and other great products this place is where it's at somebody's the best tamales best boudin cracklings crawfish cakes. Will drive back soon
