Ashdowns of Dover Bed & Breakfast

We had the pleasure of staying at Ashdowns of Dover, and it was undoubtedly the best B&B we visited during our trip to Tasmania. The host, Gary, has an impressive knowledge of the area and beyond. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. The full breakfast was exceptional and plentiful, with the homemade jams being a highlight, they can also be purchased to take home. We enjoyed feeding the sheep and chickens and were thrilled to see a platypus in the creek at the bottom of the property. This B&B feels just like staying with friends.

Comfortable, clean and well appointed themed rooms decorated by the host from his extensive world travels (we stayed in the Africa room). Gary is the perfect host, very knowledgeable, friendly and he gave us the local tourist advice that made our stay memorable. Nothing was too much even volunteering to wash the car after a muddy drive to Cockle Creek. The hot breakfast, which caters for most dietary needs, is included and so substantial that it carried us over to the evening meal.

What a perfect place to stay in the south. The rooms were comfy and warm. Our host Gary was professional, friendly, generous and a great cook. Breakfast was delicious and abundant. We loved it!

The best host we've ever had at a B and B, polite knowledge and great advice. The Africa room was larger than average and there was a lounge dining area to use as well. Easy to find, easy to access everything we wanted to do. Good facility and great breakfast, we shall return

What can one say about Mr Gary Ashdown? A lot of incredible things pertaining to his ability to not only be the best host and give the guidance of an expert in the Dover and surrounding areas but also have the absolute best food and services. This is an understatement in itself. I have stayed here many a time and my lovely partner and I will most definitely be back. Gary is the epitome of excellence in the food and guesthouse industry and is to be recognised as a frontrunner. The value for money is excellent with the beautifully decorated themed rooms, spacious land, lovely little creekside dwelling and cozy outdoor fire, the experience is second to none! WELL DESERVED 5 star average Gary was an immaculate host and a man of many talents. The breakfast experience alone was worth the visit! Delara and I absolutely loved our experience here and it was a real highlight of our tasmania trip. Thanks again!

Stayed for 1 night on a 10 night quick Tassie visit. Excellent is the only word needed. Gary texted early to say our room was ready whenever we wanted & also booked dinner for us at the RSL (great food & walkable). Spent a relaxing afternoon at the hide hoping to see platypus! Most comfortable bed & luxurious linen. Breakfast was amazing!! Fresh eggs & veg from the garden. Highly recommend.

One of the best BnBs we have stayed at. Our host was fantastic, very informative and looked after us like rock stars. The rooms were very clean, beds comfortable and the hot breakfast was fantastic. In addition to the hot breakfast, we also received complimentary muesli, yoghurt and fruit, coffee and a variety of jams. Great host and would definitely stay again. A must if visiting the south of the state.
