"The 19th-century, neo-Gothic building that houses The Qvest hotel used to store Cologne’s city archives—and makes for a striking first impression. Inside, surprisingly modern spaces, designed by owner Michael Kaune (famed for his Qvest magazine and passion for art, design, and culture), feature items from his own collection of furniture and photography. While sometimes on the small side, the 34 rooms showcase vintage and original mid-century modern design pieces; for more space, book one of the suites, with historic details like cross vaults, hand-painted wooden ceilings, and Gothic windows, as well as photographs by Roxanne Lowit, Marina Gadonneix, and George Holz, and the occasional grand piano. Guests can also look forward to a slick bar with Eames armchairs that doubles as a breakfast room, and hip, personable staff who can help with exploring the city."

The Qvest (Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia) 19 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"As an entrepreneurial venture, the Qvest certainly brings a new and welcome take on contemporary design to Cologne’s relatively straightforward hospitality scene. But it’s the preserved history — in this city, no less — that makes it unique. One of the only extant pre-WWII buildings spared by RAF bombers, Qvest is something of a design museum, intricately interweaving a variety of periods and practitioners. Michael Kaune, a local art collector, teamed up with Rolf Kursawe’s architects to pull off this singular feat in just two years of renovation; together, they’ve achieved what can only be called a Gereonsviertel landmark. (Don’t worry, we’ll wait here while you look it up.)" - Tablet Hotels

I had a wonderful stay at the Qvest Hideaway Hotel! |I have a passion for interior design and architecture, and The Qvest Hotel was a visual experience! And the photography on the walls are stunning. I will stay here again. The best breakfast and coffee I had in Germany.

Fantastic stay! My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at a The Qvest while in Cologne for our honeymoon. The hotel staff was incredibly kind and warm almost everyone we spoke with offered us congratulations and well wishes. The reception and restaurant staff especially went out of their way to make our stay special. This hotel offers many different room types for both solo travelers and families. The beds are comfy and the rooms are clean. It's situated in a beautiful courtyard shared by a cozy pub and restaurant. Only a short walk from the cologne cathedral!

I am a Bonvoy Titanium member and booked 2 rooms a stay at The Qvest Cologne hotel. I assumed that rooms in a hotel of this caliber and price would have air conditioning. The nights were quite miserable as the outside temperature was around +30°C. Nothing worked at this hotel: rude service, no benefits for status members, breakfast wasn't included in the price (if you can even call it breakfast – more like overpriced coffee). The room's decor was minimalistic, if you can even call it decor. The nightstand was a ridiculous "table" that was only 10-15 cm off the floor. The room and corridor were dark. This is all supposedly called a design hotel. Check-in was only allowed a minute early at 14:59, and check-out was at 11 AM. Fortunately, I managed to get a late check-out until 12 PM – wow. Three nights at this hotel, and thankfully they were the last ones. Never again. I don’t understand why Marriott has chosen this overpriced hotel as a partner. Over 300 euros for a basic room per night.

Building is amazing, old gothic church. The area is also great. However, I booked a single room, and it was literally the tiniest room I've ever been in. And that comes from a person that traveled Japan several times. I'm Bonvoy royalty, but in this hotel it didn't help to receive the obligatory upgrade. I guess the regular rooms are ok, but single rooms are a no go in this hotel. Oh yes, and if someone in this hotel is coughing, you'll be awake. But again, it's an old church...

Google
Sorry. But its only standard. The building looks super interesting but inside its only basic. Rooms are basic, mostly small and its super loud in the morning. Only one person working, doing reception, room service and all other duties. She was very nice but admitted to be overwhelmed. No Bonvoy benefits at all.

How would I describe this hotel? Lifeless and boring! The staff does not seem to have any spark either. The best thing about this hotel is the location! And the building itself looks interesting but that’s all. Our room was quite big but sadly decorated, all items were placed against the wall leaving a huge empty space in the middle.

Some rooms are quite small. My biggest issue: they can‘t be locked manually!! I am pretty sure someone tried coming into my room at night. Wanted to lock but no way. The reception is without staff starting a certain time, so in terms of feeling of safety/ security- theres room for improvement… Great breakfast though!

Google
Design Hotel is often tricky, because Design often means function follows form, so prepare yourself to have a beautiful but disfunctional situation. In case of Qvest it‘s different it‘s neither beautiful nor functional: I had a room on the 4th floor, which still felt like a cellar: One small window, no cabinet, one chalr, a bed and a TV. Poor lighting added to the frustration of having been tricked into booking via Marriot referral. The obly plus sides - friendly and helpful stuff, thanks, and central location. Summarized - it was an accident to end up there which I will be prepared to avoid in the future.

Yelp
This hotel is an absolute DREAM. The entire place is gorgeous, down to the very last detail. Such care and attentiveness was put into this spot and it shows. Not only was the atmosphere perfect, the staff were very great and willing to go above and beyond!!! The breakfast that was included in our booking was delicious and fresh, it felt like we were eating local ingredients prepared with care. It IS a bit warm in the summer in the rooms though, with no A/C it gets a little toasty on the 4th floor. Thankfully the staff happily brought us a very nice Dyson fan that worked great and did the trick. The beds are on the firmer side which isn't my usual preference but we slept extremely well both nights we stayed. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel, especially if you're into feeling part of the city and staying somewhere totally Instagram worthy!

Yelp
My boyfriend kidnapped me to Cologne last weekend and booked us a room at The Qvest. Great choice! The new design hotel in an old monastery is a pleasure to stay at. It is amazing to see that Qvest Magazine found a way to turn their lifestyle into a place where you can enjoy your holiday. The architecture and interior perfectly combine the old with the new and thanks to the arched windows there is plenty of light. Our room was completely modern in wood and white with a beautiful bathroom in black tiles. One of the best showers I've ever had. We had cocktails and appetizers at the bar, where we also had breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately the cocktails were underwhelming and expensive (about €15), but the selection of bread is really good. I am a bread-o-holic after all. The cheeses and toppings are okay, but nothing extraordinary. The entire hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They really make you feel welcome. We were there during a quiet weekend, which worked very relaxing. The square where The Qvest is located is very calm although it's close to everything.

Yelp
My room was beautiful and large and a super comfortable bed. The art work on the walls is connected to the Chapel/ Photography gallery next door. All the furniture and decor was original Eames. Everyone working at the Qvest was kind, helpful and always had a smile. Great breakfast! If you're looking for something original, this is the place! MA
