"Zamaan Named after the Creole word for “almond tree,” this flower-filled, open-air restaurant enjoys pride of place at the pioneering eco-boutique Rosalie Bay Resort. The kitchen employs healthy ingredients fresh from its organic garden in dishes like vegan gumbo, hummus with plantain chips, and a beet-goat-cheese salad. Omnivores should try the grilled lobster tail or citrus-honey chicken."

Rosalie Bay Resort | Condé Nast Traveler

"Built as a labor of love, this 28-room eco-enterprise is a master microcosm of Dominica. Eight years of construction resulted in 22 acres of riotously verdant grounds (frangipani, ginger lily, heliconia, and hibiscus) and a hotel blessedly free of pretension. It has also resulted in a caliber of comfort, service, and dining hitherto in short supply on the island. The gingerbread-trimmed cottages, set in a horseshoe shape, face a rocky Atlantic beach or are set back with views of the Rosalie River and Morne Trois Pitons foothills. Inside, uncluttered, compact Garden View rooms and generous-sized suites have plantation-style interiors, with coarse plaster walls, stained concrete floors, and sturdy wood furniture, locally built. A three-treatment-room spa is elevated above the crashing surf. Controlling its environmental footprint, the resort uses wind turbine, solar panels, on-site water filtration, and Adirondack chairs made from recycled plastic. From March through October, guests can help monitor turtles—green, hawksbill, and leatherback—nesting on the beach. As impressive as the resort’s green sensibilities is its faith in the locals: Many of the cheery staffers hail from the village of Grand Fond, including a mason who, after construction was complete, trained to be the barman at the Caribbean-inflected Zamaan restaurant. Note: The resort released the following statement after Hurricane Maria hit the island in September 2017: "Dominica was hit by the extremely dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Maria late Monday, September 18, 2017. Fortunately, Rosalie Bay Resort was closed for the month of September for annual refurbishments, so there were no guests in-house during this time. However, due to the impact of the storm, we expect to remain closed until at least February 2020."

I spent five wonderful days at Rosalie Bay Eco Resort, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The property is absolutely beautiful — peaceful, tranquil, and so well cared for. The rooms and cottages are spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed to blend with the natural surroundings. The staff are incredibly kind and attentive, always ready with a smile or helpful suggestion. I have to give a special shoutout to Shaneta — she was an absolute gem! So sweet, kind, and full of positive energy. She was a joy to see in the mornings and afternoons when she was working, and she really made my stay feel even more special. The resort itself feels like a sanctuary — lush gardens, stunning views, and that breathtaking black sand beach where the river meets the ocean. I spent a lot of time unwinding at the gazebo by the river after exploring the island — it quickly became my favorite spot. Although the resort is a bit farther from some of the main attractions, coming back each evening to such a serene and quiet setting made it completely worth it. Breakfast here is done a bit differently than most resorts — it’s freshly cooked to order every morning, not buffet-style, with a healthy and varied menu. Everything I tried was delicious. I also enjoyed several lunches and dinners on-site — the ceviche was excellent, the shrimp pizza was a favorite, and the piña coladas were perfect. I highly recommend Rosalie Bay Eco Resort to anyone who loves nature, peace, and a slower pace. It’s the perfect place to relax, recharge, and reconnect with the beauty of Dominica. 🌿

Always a treat to go to Rosalie Bay. Our favorite dishes are the pizza, wings, and the fried chicken sandwich. Melissa mixes a great martini! All the staff are friendly and kind and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The resort itself is gorgeous. Definitely worth arriving in the day time so you can see the gorgeous views before dining. Highly recommend! Just went yesterday again and still excellent pizza and great chicken sandwich!! The local dishes are also very good. A real taste of Dominica!

From arrival to departure, Rosalie Bay Eco Resort & Spa exceeded all expectations. The lush surroundings immediately put me at ease with vibrant tropical gardens, soothing ocean views, and peaceful birdsong everywhere.||Our villa was beautifully designed with natural materials, airy windows, and all the comforts one could want. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely caring; they remembered little details and made us feel truly welcomed.||Meals at the on site restaurant were fresh, locally sourced, and absolutely delicious. Every dish felt like a celebration of island flavors. The spa treatments were the perfect indulgence after exploring, relaxing and rejuvenating in a tranquil setting.||What I loved most was the balance this resort strikes. You feel enveloped by nature and serenity, yet nothing is lacking in comfort. Whether swimming, walking the shore, or simply unwinding, it’s a place that stays with you.

Rosalie Bay eco-resort is in the secluded southeast of the island. There are small villages around, but at this time of year the best dining options were at the Resort. The location of the resort is scenic, with the river to one side and ocean to the other. Rooms are spacious and well maintained, and the AC is a nice perk. The grounds at the facility are immaculate- it’s like staying in a botanical garden. The food was good, with a variety of options. Pool water was warm, and the staff onsite were incredibly pleasant. Would stay here again if we were seeking a secluded, quiet few days

We absolutely loved our stay here! While most of our planned activities were on the other side of the island - coming back to this little slice of paradise was well worth the driving. If we ever come back to Dominica, we will definitely stay here again.
