"As you approach Lake Naivasha from Nairobi, the one-lane,potholed road risesand you are suddenly treated to a truly awesome view of the Great Rift Valleystretching outto the horizon. Shimmering within that vistaisLake Naivasha, a popular weekend destination for Nairobians. The lake itself is beautiful in a prehistoric-looking way, with wispy, jagged trees jutting up from the water and hippos bathing in the midday sun. Along the boggy shoreline, before thewater lilies and tropical grasses give way to the open water, it’s easyto imagine ancient creatureswriggling their way up onto landand eventually evolving into the first hominids. While in the area, explore Hell's Gate National Park andits gigantic gorge, take a boat trip on the lake in search of hippos, and get your fill of the freshly made pizzas at Camp Carnelley’s."

Lake Naivasha is an absolutely stunning destination and a must-visit when in Kenya. The lake itself is vast and very scenic, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and rich wildlife. The boating experience was excellent—calm waters, fresh air, and a chance to truly appreciate the size and beauty of the lake. One of the highlights was spotting a wide range of bird species. From majestic fish eagles to colorful kingfishers, the variety of birds makes it a paradise for bird lovers. Another unforgettable moment was seeing hippos resting in the water, which added to the excitement of the trip. Crescent Island is another gem that should not be missed along with the boating tour. Walking among freely roaming animals like zebras and giraffes in such a serene environment is a truly unique experience. The island also offers great viewpoints for photography and breathtaking views of the lake. Overall, Lake Naivasha is a perfect mix of tranquility, wildlife, and adventure. Highly recommended for nature lovers, bird watchers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful yet memorable experience.

I would not go out of my way to go here. It was okay but only if you happen to be going that way or do not plan to visit any of the big parks to see wildlife. It’s nice to take a walk if you’re a tourist and have been on game drives. We got dropped off, walked around and then ended up waiting almost 45 minutes for a boat ride back, so do not go here if you are in a hurry to get somewhere after. If we had not had a private driver waiting for us who got a boat to come get us then I’m afraid we may have been stuck there.

The boat ride in the lake Naivasha was superb. 15 minutes one way (total 30inutes) and around 30 minutes spotting the animal. Memorable experience. Spotted quite a few number of animals in the land and water near Crescent Island including water buck, zebra, hippo, pelican, eagle, wilderbeast etc and various other birds. The water in the lake clear and blue and light waves make the boat dance. Life jackets are provided as safety precaution. Highly recommended. The better option is to go for a trip in Crescent Island where tourists are given a walking experience with various herbivorous animals in the island at an additional cost of 60 USD per person.

Water based park with lots of birds and hippos. Perfect for a day trip from Nairobi or to break up a larger safari and stopover in between areas. Birding is a highlight with lots of fish eagles. There are boat operators that throw small fish while on the lake compelling the fish eagles to swoop down and capture the fish. This is a highlight and a must. You can also boat on the lake up close to the hippos. On the shore there are giraffes zebras waterbuck and ostriches. Big animals like lions and elephants don’t really exist here but come for the birds and hippos.

We extended our trip from Masai Mara just to visit Lake Naivasha—and it was totally worth it! The lake is beautiful, with plenty of birdlife, hippos, and a peaceful atmosphere. The boat ride was the highlight, followed by a guided nature walk where we saw zebras, giraffes, and impalas up close—all herbivores, so it’s completely safe to walk around. A perfect spot for nature lovers and anyone who enjoys boat rides on a scenic freshwater lake!

Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp in Kenya is a must-see for any bird lover. A boat tour across Lake Naivasha offers the chance to see a variety of water and land birds. With a bit of luck, you might spot hippos, giraffes, waterbuck, zebras, and antelopes on the shore or in the water.
