"Pablo Neruda’s House, Valparaiso, Chile The poet Pablo Neruda redefined the city with his Ode to Valparaíso , calling it “the patched bow of a small courageous ship.” Today, visitors can tour his home, known as La Sebastiana. The building is now a museum with one of the city’s finest gift shops.—Steven Bodzin Ferrari 692, 56/(0) 32-225-6606. This appeared in the November/December 2011 issue. By Afar Magazine"

The house itself is located on a beautiful vista point looking down the city but for the entrance fee and quite restrictive visiting rules of the house, it might not make a highlight of the city. It's also a bit of uphill walk from the main area of the city, which you may want to consider for your visit in a hot weather.

The museum which was one of Pablo Neruda's home with his wife Matilde is like a peek into his life. The house offered a beautiful view of the ocean with it's plush garden. The house is quirky yet charming with his art, objects and furniture collection. The dining room showed how Neruda entertained, an unique fireplace, his books, his desk where he wrote.... there is a library in an annex and a boutique. Highly recommended if you are visiting Valparaiso

Worth to visit. Also, the audio guides are excellent as in other two Neruda’s houses-museums. It would be difficult for people who have mobility issues because there are a lot of climbing, narrow and quirky climbing.

A very well presented place, with audio in English, which made the tour interesting. Aspects about how the poet wanted his house to be built and his interest in his antique collection were given. Kudos to the people behind the museum. Photography inside the museum was not allowed, but of the city from the windows were.

Excellent, must see piece of historical preservation. The self guide audio tour is very ingaging and available in several languages. Surprises on every floor. View over Valparaiso is incredible!

Awesome visit. The museum/house is kept in its original state so using the guide takes you a bit back in time and feel the energy that Pablo Neruda and his friends brought to the home.

Yelp
The second of Pablo Neruda's houses, La Sebastiana resides in Valparaíso. This house, in comparison to La Chascona in Santiago, seems livelier. There's an eclectic collection of trinkets at this location just like at his prior house, but this house seems more spacious. There's a garden outside and it even overlooks into the city. The views are beautiful. That said, once again - you are given an audio tour. Languages available are English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The entire tour lasts around an hour. It seems this house, along with La Chascona, weren't his favorites though. That honor belongs to the house in Isla Negra, the one I didn't get to visit. You're allowed to take photos but only of the exterior. There's also a gift shop and plenty of bathrooms. Definitely worthy of checking out.

Yelp
What a sight both inside and out! THE AMBIANCE: La Sebastiana is located in a courtyard with a balcony that overlooks the harbor, gift shop, cultural center, and small library. When you go inside, the first floor has a room with a television streaming videos of the famous poet Pablo Neruda and the life he lived. This is his five (5) story house and the views of the harbor from the different floors and the items inside (art, furniture, etc.) are AMAZING! Pablo Neruda used to watch the fireworks from his house. You walk up each story and admire all the interesting things it has to offer. On the floor that has his dining and living room area, there is a really neat bar. Honestly, the whole house has a bunch of treasures and is a must see. You are not allowed to take photographs other than outside the windows but people sneak a picture here and there. A guard walks around. THE TIPS: Opening hours are Tues-Sunday 10:30am-6:50pm in Jan & Feb and Tues-Sunday 10:10am-6pm Mar-Dec.

Yelp
Have to have a little culture while on vacation. It was neat to travel to Pablo Neruda's house. Seeing the colorful houses, the windy and hilly roads made the journey interesting. The audio tour was simple at best. The view of the harbor from the back yard was spectacular! Take a selfie with the harbor in the background and you will have your xmas picture!

Yelp
One of the most "poetic" architecture structures I have seen. Indeed Pablo Neruda did not only craft words into poetry but crafted his masterpiece La Sebastiana into a glimpse of how one plays with abstraction and love. La Sebastiana is a simply beautiful. This 5 story house overlooks the beautiful Valparaiso city. It is said that Pablo Neruda use to sit on his patio and watch the fireworks light up the sky Every New year eve. The house is by no means a mansion which is what makes it so charming. Each floor only have enough space for the main room and 1 or two extra side rooms. Each floor overlooks the city and has a different theme. In a world where the cookie cutter house is now the standard and living in Suburbia is more and more idealized it makes you appreciate the individuality that La Sabastiana offers.
