Well well well. I typed into Google ‘best guinness in liverpool’ and this pub came up. I can confirm they serve really really good creamy Guinness. Great pub.

Absolutely cracking old school pub with a history. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and explained the 100 year plus history with a bit of pride. Hood range of ales, beers and lagers and they were well kept and a decent price. The decor has the look built up over decades that newer ones try to copy and fail. Well worth a visit.

The pub has a good selection of hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales and is regularly featured in the camra good beer guide. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is an outside seating area and the pub has been extended over the years without spoiling the nationally important interior. Peter Kavanagh's is named after the landlord of 53 years who commissioned the murals, stained glass and carvings. The unique tables in the snug are also of his design. This is a great pub and a visit is highly recommended.

An old world boozer with a greatsekection of beers. And a fabulous collection of bric a brac to enjoy while drinking. Has an outside area if the weather I'd good and two rooms off the bar area. No food available, just crisps.

What can one say about such a historic and decorated pub? Beautiful from the moment you turn the corner onto the narrow street. Stumbled upon this place and had to wait a bit for them to open at noon because I just had to see the inside. Every inch of this place is rustic and has a story. The small alcoves/drinking rooms are the best part. Has that old smell, in a good way. Barkeep was super friendly and helpful. Four cask handles and several draft options. Also one of the cheaper pints in town at less than £4. A neighborhood pub doesn’t get better than this!

We visited Peter Kavanagh's in Liverpool, near the Cathedral, based on a friend's recommendation. It was around 3pm, from the outside we weren't sure if it was open, but went in and was pleased it was. The pub was quiet, with just a few locals and groups catching up. The Guinness was good and affordable, as was the Shropshire ale. The pub has several nooks, perfect for private conversations, which adds to its charm. The bar staff were friendly enough, and we paid in cash. It feels like a true local spot, complete with a fruit machine and regulars, but it also had some quirky history. The decor is filled with fun objects, especially behind the bar. Overall, good pint, good service - recommended.

Came here on a visit to Liverpool as it was recommended by someone in our hotel, had good reviews and we had seen it online. Walked into the pub and stood at the bar for 5 minutes while the lady behind the bar finished a fag at the front door, despite watching us walk in and there only being us and three other people in the whole pub. When she did come in she was rude and more interested in talking to the locals at the bar than us - basically threw drinks at us. Shame because it’s a great drink selection and a lovely quirky bar with a very cool seating area, but service was poor and given we’d been to some great pubs in Liverpool this let the side down. Left after one drink.

The only pub within walking distance of my flat and thank goodness for that. This poet (without even knowing it) loves Peter Kavanaugh's. As soon as you walk in, you're transported into your eccentric Uncle's attic. Everything you could think of adorn the walls (including chamber pots), and as you wander over steps and stairs to get to various areas of the bar, you find more and more cool things to look at. Someone, who I'm guessing was a regular, told me that the murals on the wall were painted in the late 20's as a repayment for a bar tab the painter couldn't afford. Whether it's true or not, it's the perfect story for the pub. The decor is extremely warm, with its deeply colored murals, blazing fireplace and leaded windows. I just simply feel good whenever I'm here. The regulars are colorful, hard drinkers and the bartenders are about the same. They all seem to truly enjoy their home away from home. Make sure you tip, though! The owner of the bar has a few rules to keep her place in line and are common courtesy acts you should be doing anyway. I hear they have great food, but the only bits I've ordered were crisps munched on over a really fun quiz they host each week, made even more enjoyable by the patrons and host shouting things at each other from various nooks and crannies of the pub. So if you're looking for a unique time with equally unique people to boot, Peter Kavanaugh's is where to go.

I love the look of this pub. it is awesome. The pub is well known nationally for its historic interior. A proper olde place with a lot of interesting stuff happening all over the walls. Oh and spot the copy of Fly Fishing by JR Hartley above the bar! Memory lane. This is all very cool and the beer selection isn't common...unfortunately it IS Cottage. Their beers all seem to me to be slight variations on the same beer. If that beer was one I really liked then that would be awesome. As it is it's just ok, so I am not particularly enthused when they cross my path.

Surely one of the strangest pubs in town, PKs is part pub, part antique shop and part curiosity. You can see all sorts of weird items hanging from the walls and ceiling as you wander through the narrow passages of what seems like somebody's converted house. It makes for a very cosy environment to while away winter nights as you can find comfy seats tucked away in small rooms and plenty of characters vying fro elbow room at the tiny bar. In these conditions it can get very busy very easily but it's never a hassle just a lively atmosphere fuelled by the eccentrics, artists, poets and drunks who come here regularly. Live music is a weekly event and plenty of choices on the ale front make PKs a very non-traditional traditional pub. I mean that it's a place for drinking, talking and singing, no sport or gimmicks or cocktails but what is sung or discussed is usually anything ordinairy.

Kavanaghs is a pub with real character. It's a kind of home away from home, and/ or the regulars actual home. It's a welcoming old Irish pub with bits of all sorts of knick-knacks hanging from the ceilings and an alligator skin on the wall, very Peter Pan, I kid thee not. The dark wood rooms which lead off to the sides of the pub have a welcoming homely feel and in the winter they have a roaring fire going. Serving traditional cask ales as well as the usual bevvies it's a real locals pub and once you're in with the clique you won't want to leave. They've got a piano which someone usually has a go on, sparking mass karaoke and there's live traditional jazz on Tuesdays which is a really chilled and relaxing atmosphere. What's a pub without an old faithful pub quiz? On Thursdays PKs do a really fun one, but be prepared to take it seriously as Rita the Landlady takes no prisoners! After spending a New Year's Eve here, I can say that it's the kind of place where you will keep coming back to just for the eclectic characters and local stories. There's always something going on!

What a great pub, completely unique in many ways! This place really does pack a lot of character! I've been to many pubs within the city centre, but not with quite the same atmosphere and collection of curious as this place! They have a great collection of old wireless radios and random things such as gas masks hanging from the ceiling above and behind the bar. They also serve a great pint and the service is very friendly, the regulars are welcoming and the pub quiz is a great night out. They have a skiffle band that plays on Thursdays and these are incredible to watch, and also quite nice to get up and have a dance to if you're that way inclined! They also have a great range of bar snacks, which to me is very important for a pub. These include the filthiest of fatty pork scratchens, cheeselets, nuts and crisps! Winner!"!

On account of the fact it's clinging to the fringes of the city centre by its fingernails, Peter Kavanaghs requires a bit of a walk from or in to town. This is what makes it work best as a local. And work it does. With its tiny bar, friendly staff and curious knick-bric-a-brac-knacks jumbling up the walls and ceiling, you may have just wonder what world you've stumbled into. Penny farthings, old radios, helmets from distant wars and chamber pots are all nailed around this little drinking den like the nest of an antiquing magpie. Even though they were most likely all bought a month ago off eBay, you can't help but conjure up stories for each crumbling nugget of history. "Ooh, was that the chopping block that belonged to Sweeney Todd? I bet that biro was salvaged from the Mary Rose? What period BC do you reckon this iPad is from?" A quaint, quirky quizzler of a pub, the only thing untoward with my visit was the lack of music playing. The silence forced me to speak in a murmur and I wondered what I'd done wrong to make everyone stop dead.

Pubs in Liverpool. Is there any point in competing with them at all? Nah. Even the rubbish ones have masses of character. Not that this is one of the rubbish ones, not by a long shot. It's an acquired taste but once you manage to acquire that it'll feel like home. Victorian in style and typically ancient as Scouse pubs are, the exterior might not bowl you over (especially if you're a Liverpudlian who's used to these things, you lucky sod) but the inside is a labyrinth of warrens and snugs, with corridors in which people hang out and socialise with their drinks, plenty of tables to rest your frosty glasses of real ale (four pumps are dedicated to guests) and a number of quirky features like weather-worn murals on the walls and musical instruments descending from the ceiling. The fireplaces make a superbly cosy addition for icy nights. Anything I've missed... bikes? A piano? Football scarves? Gas masks? There are a ton of old relics in here, and I'm only talking about the punters. I jest, I jest. It's chockfull of personality. There's a real community vibe to this place, not least because of the posters advertising local events in the corridors. The bar staff are great fun and get involved with all the banter - in fact it very much reminds me of a soap opera pub in that sense. Lather up, peeps!

Let's make this clear right from the outset, I've not been in a better pub in Liverpool. This delightful, friendly boozer serves quality real ale (my mates and I tried a pint from the Cottage Brewery on our visit on 12 September), the music system was pumping out old tracks that brought lots of memories flooding back, the decor is sublime (walls with paintings, memorabilia everywhere, radios hanging from the ceiling!), and the side rooms fascinating and worthy of exploration. A must for all beer fans, and those with an interest in Liverpool history and character.

Wow, if you want a good drink and a true Liverpool experience, have a pint here. We met a few colourful characters that day. My friend was over from Singapore and we had a great time and the crack was good. Not sure I want to be too specific about who we met, wee for yourselves. it's worth it!

i remember pk when it was the roscoe arms in the 60.s me and many others on a sunday afternoon would do mind the cars for 10 bob a go and leading up to bommie night do penny for the guy out side altho we did live the other end of edgerton street sandon street end we was allowed down by the pub even now as a mature lady i often go sit out side and think back to the happy time they used to have a parrot on the bar now thats a diffnet story and for another day
