Where to Drink, Stay, and Play in Oaxaca

"For natural wine, head to Amá Terraza on the top floor of the hotel Casa Antonieta and enjoy the city’s most beautiful rooftop—which doubles as a hummingbird sanctuary."

Casa Antonieta Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Perched atop the hotel, this rooftop wine bar and restaurant has a mellow, all‑day vibe driven by a curated playlist; it’s well suited for remote work sessions, morning cappuccinos, lingering breakfasts and unhurried evenings. Guests linger over mezcal margaritas as the city’s rooftops warm in golden light, and the staff allow plenty of time to relax without pressure."

Hidden inside the "Casa Antonieta" hotel, you'll find the beautiful Amá Terraza. Getting there is an experience in itself: a staircase in the courtyard leads you up to a green oasis that makes you forget the city's hustle and bustle immediately. The ambiance is a solid 10/10. Up on the rooftop terrace, you sit among historic archways and countless plants. The view is stunning and the atmosphere incredibly relaxed. Culinary-wise, it was also very impressive! The mixed olives were delicious and paired perfectly with the white wine. The Adobo Pork Belly taco was divine, melt in your mouth tender meat and fresh ingredients. The vegetarian option with peanut salsa was brilliant as well. To top it off, we had lemonades that had just the right amount of sourness – perfectly refreshing for me. The service was flawless. Price-wise, we were around 600 Pesos. For this location and quality, that is absolutely top-notch. 👆🏼 An absolute must in Oaxaca! If you are here, you definitely shouldn't miss this spot – and make sure to bring your camera!

Google
Literally a hidden gem. The entrance seems a bit hidden and you can choose to stay at the ground floor or go to the terrace upstairs. I recommend taking the stairs. It’s so beautiful. The food is really good, they have vegetarian options, they have kombucha and very chill vibe. Totally recommend.

Google
Beautiful rooftop restaurant on the third floor of a hotel! A little tricky to find because there wasn’t a lot of signage, but the drinks and food were great! I loved the citrus gin & tonic and the VEGAN, gluten-free avocado mousse 😍! My partner got pork belly and rib tacos and the chocolate con leche and enjoyed all of it! Ha ha we went back second night in a row, and the fruit tea and lime pie were delicious!

Google
We got the Huevo Poblano, Classic Fruit Plate (w/ Bee Pollen and Coconut Yogurt), Ama’s Enchiladas, Ama’s Pancakes, Flat Whites, and an Espresso Cortado. The Huevo Poblano was the stand-out dish. I loved the creamy and smoky poblano sauce and its pairing with the mushroom base, squash blossom, and poached egg. The fruit plate was also really good because it was elevated by the coconut yogurt, bee pollen, and caco nibs. However, the Ama’s Enchiladas were quite bland and the Ama’s pancakes were very dry. The compote was very thick and it didn’t spread easily. The espresso cortado was good, but the flat whites were ok. I loved the setting. The terrace and the building the restaurant is in look spectacular and this creates such a nice ambiance.

So sit we me for a second; cuz you want to be going here, like for sure, no doubt. You need like a little oasis? Lush green? Colonial vibes? Roof terrace with peaceful music and views? Well then go here. Don't hesitate. You know what I like about Oaxaca: many places don't show there names on the front of the building. This one has it that omission too. Downstairs is a little cafetaria; but you should go through the big door in the back, and then walk upstairs to arrive at the rooftop. Waiters are thoughtful, kind and are well trained. Food is sublime, for real. Fresh ingredients are used, and you can just linger around, and have your morning brunch or breakfast. They’re omelette sandwich just neatly hits the spot right. And the relaxing tea is just, while, relaxing. Really, highly recommended. 5/5 for sure.

Google
I had to go here many times during the few days I spent in the city. Everything I had here is just delicious! From tacos to brownies, chai, cold drinks… Moreover, the waitresses are so sweet and attentive, really special service and the place 😍😍😍 I loved the downstairs in a cozy morning and the terrace on a sunny day it’s just gorgeous. At night is also a beautiful atmosphere for a date! Enjoy!

Google
Stunning rooftop terrace that feels like you are in a garden. Fresh juices, excellent coffee and delicious egg dishes with the highest quality local ingredients. Big fan for brunch! Thanks Maresa for taking great care of us.

Google
I ordered a matcha because I saw a photo where it looked vibrant green. Unfortunately, it came pale green and mainly tasted like oat milk. You couldn’t even taste the matcha, it was so dang bad. Never had something so disgusting, they didn’t even properly mix it right. After I told them, I ordered something else (a Campari) which was really good. The service was very nice and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Very beautiful café, but don’t get the matcha. You can barely call it that. (1/10 💫) I only had to pay for the campari.

Yelp
5 Star Deliciousness, it was the perfect stop to relax after flying all night & we stopped here on way before flying heading back home to Los Angeles. Very fresh , ambiance beyond expectations with great healthy choices. The orange boost and red boost very good. Just what we needed to keep our immune system strong while traveling.

Yelp
Muss Café is a must-visit breakfast spot in Oaxaca! The rooftop setting offers stunning views of downtown Oaxaca, making it the perfect place to start your day. The food is fresh and flavorful, and you can tell they take pride in using quality ingredients. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a leisurely morning. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and a view!

Yelp
Amazing rooftop for coffee and breakfast. Gorgeous views. Striking greenery. Delicious drinks. Friendly service. Super enjoyed my smoothie bowl and iced mocha. My friends delighted in their drinks as well.

Yelp
Nice spot for coffee and breakfast. I had the chia pudding which was beautiful and very filling, and a regular latte, and my bf had the pan Frances ( french toast) and Respiratirio tea (I messed that up), which was really good Anna reminiscent of a medicine ball to aid your cold/flu symptoms. Food was tasty and very healthy feeling and the latte and tea were just as expected. Service was good, some English is spoken if your Spanish is limited. The little shop is cute but the patio is beautiful. Unfortunately you don't get access to that unless you're a guest of the hotel, at least that was add our experience. Also, for every spot we went you have to ask for the check or pay at the counter. They don't bring the check to you.

Yelp
This is my fourth time coming to Muss. I love coming here becuase the service is great, it's a cute spot to have some drinks with friends, and the food is yummy. I love going to sit on the third floor terrace. I am giving it 4 stars becuase on my recent visit one of my favorite drinks did not have the same taste. Every time I ordered it it tasted different. But other than that if you are visiting Oaxaca or need a cute spot to hang I would recommend Muss.

Yelp
We had breakfast at Muss Cafe and it was very good and the coffee was great. Our server was very attentive.

Yelp
I journey from Los Angeles to Long Beach just for their matcha latte. Nobody does it better, and the staff at the counter are super cool.

Yelp
What a find... Perfect coffee, ambience and in house baked goods along with mezcal's wines, liquors. The vibe here is pretty chill & relaxing. I discovered that they have a roof top area, maybe a concoction of different restaurants.. I don't know. The lushness the vibe the relaxation, it's the only deal spot to stop get your morning cuppa. The staff are efficient helpful and patient with us despite our poor Spanish.

Yelp
Really nice spot with a great ambiance! They have lots of seating here (inside, outside, and upstairs - although unfortunately when I was there the patio was closed), as well as decent wifi if you need to get work done. Most of the staff here speak English, and they accept card as well! They have pastries, as well as small cafe bites. I got an iced mocha latte which was very good!
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
My friend, who is an expert at finding cute coffee shops, found Cafe Muss. We came here twice on our trip. This little coffee shop has a beautiful rooftop oasis. Let's get down to the nitty gritty. I enjoyed the mocha on both trip and it feels like there's authentic chocolate. It offers a nice little punch. The fruit bowl is decent and the breakfast sandwich is good. I definitely recommend coming here to check out the roof top spot.

Yelp
Ask for the rooftop café, it's amazing. Great service, and prices, good coffee. The huevos dishes are very tasty.

Yelp
Good strong coffee centrally located. Staff very nice, respectful and friendly. Clean, modern and charming space. Lovely spot to take a coffee break!

Yelp
Muss Cafe has a pretty good thing going. It's in a beautiful space with a cool, outdoor courtyard, plus a gorgeous but hot patio upstairs (which is connected to Muss Cafe but maybe technically has a different name and menu?). The food skews "gentrified traveler" with chia and cocoa nibs gracing anything and everything. It's all pretty good, but I'd say it's mostly about the serenity, scene, and easy accessibility than the food itself.

Yelp
Best coffee in Oaxaca in beautiful setting. The rooftop is amazing and service is great

Yelp
This is a fabulous little cafe that has no only amazing coffee drinks but also great food. During my stay, I came here about 3 times and tried various dishes off their menu -- açaí bowls, fresh juices, coffees, pastries and everything was super fresh and tasty. Prices were also super reasonable for such an aesthetic, popular place. Seating is very limited as it is a tiny spot so expect to wait. Not the best place to just grab and go but if you have some time worth coming to visit!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. The place is really pretty with all its greenery and decor. Pros: Beautiful interior and exterior One staff member was really sweet and offered us bee repellent which seemed to work ...for a minute Cons: My drink was lukewarm almost cold and definitely not hot. Food was bland. Nothing special or ordinary. I asked for everything on the side for one order but everything came mixed together. The bees in the terrace made it nearly impossible to enjoy a meal or even our drinks. We were completely swarmed with bees and the occasional flies. One staff member was really dry and almost seemed annoyed that I asked for plain milk Sad to say I wouldn't come back here.

Yelp
Our initial plan was to pop in to Muss Cafe to grab a quick to-go coffee, but "pop in", we did not. Once we discovered the hidden oasis upstairs, we were so enchanted that we couldn't leave without sitting down for a cup of coffee. It was such a darling place that we came back two days in a row. Positive notes: + Loved the ambiance and the lush greenery. The loveliest way to start the morning! + The staff is gracious, patient, and helpful + Food is fresh + Small boutique at the register with cute tchotchkes Areas for improvement: - Although the food is fresh, I wouldn't call it delicious. I had a fruit bowl with coconut yogurt on the first day that just didn't hit the spot. The breakfast sandwich I had in the 2nd day was a better choice. - Their coffee had great presentation, but it was not very strong. We found that we had to get multiple cups to satiate our caffeine needs. Bottom line is that this is a cute cafe to start off your day in the right direction. Come for the vibes, but be warned about the coffee!

Yelp
Muss Cafe is a coffeeshop/cafe next to the main entrance of Casa Antonieta, where we just spent six nights on a visit to Oaxaca. (A lot of the pictures posted to this business are actually of Ama Terraza, which is the terrace bar/restaurant on the third floor of Casa Antonieta). We stopped by a few times for an afternoon espresso. The cafe is gorgeous, the coffee is great, and the service is great. (It isn't just a coffeeshop, it also has drinks, wine, pastries, and breakfast.) It's definitely a great stop if you're looking for a coffee or a drink in the area!

Yelp
Hit and miss tho. We went there they said it's a 30 minute wait and no one was up there. You can see the empty patio. Then we realized the kitchen isn't open so that's what was not communicated. There is a young male server that's great but the second time we came it was a female server there is no attention to detail like bringing soup without a spoon. We asked for salt and pepper and they never brought it and we had to go get it. Customer service and communication needs to be better.

Sergio M.

Yelp
Lleven traductor o aprendan inglés, de otra forma no recibirán la atención deseada. Una lástima que un lugar en pleno Oaxaca tengas esa actitud.
google avatar

Allan K.

Yelp
Whoa, this place is so neat, the downstairs inner area is super cool/temperature cool, and the upstairs has ncie views of Oaxaca! It's a hotel but they let guests go upstairs. The coffee is watered downed according to my friend but the teas are nice. The bathroom is defintiely super nice with their multi ply toilet paper and super thick paper towels. Super clean place.

Yelp
This was the first place we ate at on our first trip to Oaxaca. The food was delicious and the rooftop view was beautiful! Everything about this place was great, including the service. I would definitely come back here again. Drinking coffee while enjoying the view of the mountains was spectacular.

Yelp
This is a cozy, quaint cafe on a quiet street in downtown Oaxaca, but away from the historic center (zocalo). A great place to unwind and read a book and sip on delicious coffee. They offer Chemex (pour over), which I am not usually a fan of, but this was delicious. They offer a small selection of pastries, which I am guessing are not made on site. The service was friendly and offered local tips. Muss = No fuss.

Yelp
Many vegan & gluten free options. Amazing almond iced latte. Beautiful atmosphere. I had the smoothie bowl, so wholesome & fresh.

Yelp
Wonderful vibe and chill cafe' !!! Our first time here in Muss Cafe and we love the culture. The details in this place are worth checking out!

Yelp
Excellent coffee and staff. The breakfast sandwich is really good. They added a chimichuri like dressing that takes it up a notch. They also have pastries like muffins and sweet breads. Definitely recommend it for some good coffee and a quick bite.

Yelp
Nice. Not busy, but not much capacity either. Cool courtyard. Relaxed. Nice drinks. Quick friendly service,
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic coffee shop among the few that open at 7:30 in central Oaxaca. Great pastry - cardamom muffin, avocado toast was perfect and what they call smoothies which is more like an açaí bowl. The cappuccino was sublime.

Yelp
Such a cozy relaxing spot to grab breakfast. Highly recommend getting the green detox juice! It will blow you away. Got the eggs and toast and nothing better than good quality basics to start the day. Also got the breakfast sandwich which is pretty hearty if you are hungry. Staff was super friendly. It's small so there is limited seating. There menu has classic coffee options and a few milk options. Coffee was okay, nothing to rave about there. They have breakfast and lunch options including toasts, sandwiches, and salads. The grilled cheese is perfection!!!

Veronica E.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, friendly service and fresh food . We walked up to the terrace for a breakfast. If you want to drink wine they do serve per glass even it's not indicated on their menu.

Earth B.

Yelp
It's up three flights but totally worth it! It's gorgeous with 3 story courtyard. Highly recommend!

Adam S.

Yelp
Quaint little cafe attached to a hotel - small space for folks coming from street, but lots of catered space to guest of hotel. We walked in off street and got lucky to grab a table. Very nice for coffee

Yelp
This is the best coffee and cafe in Oaxaca. Fresh juice great food and super friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great coffee and morning pastries. Enjoyed the ambiance in the attached hotel courtyard!

Yelp
In my experience, this is the best coffee shop in town. Excellent espresso flavor, good third wave latte art/style, very nice baristas, and some delicious breads. If you're a coffee fan don't miss it while you're here.

Andrew Y.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee using local Oaxacan beans. Must try the cinnamon rolls with cranberry and cardamom!

Paul Z.

Yelp
Great staff. Wonderful coffee. We are in Oaxaca City for a week and found this great coffee shop The cinnamon role with cardamon is to die for.

Stedman H.

Yelp
Somehow both 1. One of the worst breakfasts I've had in Mexico in two weeks, 2. One of the most expensive! Definitely try elsewhere
