I love this place. They have a variety of things. I get my reading glasses there for about $24. They are way more stylish than anything u will find at Walgreens. They also have nice clothes and even things for around the house. Go check them out.

Michael and Scott were so helpful both times I was there! Kenneth has wonderful products and it was more than worth braving the cold to get there. I was able to finish my Christmas shopping and they even steered me to a great Mexican restaurant across the street. Thank you, guys, I will be back.

Very disappointed. Saw many shirts I would like to buy, but I'm a 2xl and they do not carry anything over xl. When I asked the guy was kinda rude with a look like I had no business being in there.

Some cool stuff, but mostly tacky, the clerk was extremely nice and helpful. On the expensive side, but sometimes justifiably.

Really recommend it if you're looking for nice presents, especially for men.

What a cute shop. There's always fun, unique stuff in here. I stop in every time I pass it! Sometimes it's a little awkward because it's typically just you and the one sales associate, but they're really helpful and friendly so it's cool. If you're looking for a special gift or fun t shirt, I would highly recommend this place. It's not cheap by any means, but I don't believe the prices are unreasonable, especially considering the location of the business. I grabbed a really sick novelty keychain and can't wait to show it off. Come by and shop for yourself!

Bought a lot of great things from here...in 2015. This has been closed a long time ago. It's another business now. I wonder why this page and the google listing havent been updated....such a shame

I absolutely love this store. I had been wanting to go during my trip but every time I tried it was closed. Finally on my last day I made it in plenty of time to browse. His t shirt collection is the best. Each shirt will run you around $29 bucks which is a good mid-range price for a shirt. He has a lot of cool home accessories as well. Kenneth himself is a really nice person. We chatted for about 5-10 minutes after my transaction. I can't wait to visit again to spend even more money there.

Love this place for gifty items (chalk board candle, picture frames, cute leather albums). They have like 3 couches my husband is just in love with, but our fav is two pieces that aren't sold seperately so we can't buy it.The prices aren't ridiculous either like some boutique furniture stores. I love the guy who is always behind the counter. He is very friendly and helpful (the blond guy) and even let us keep our purchased goods there for a night because we wanted to run downtown without carrying it.

We accidentally happened upon this spot. And glad that we did! I bought a few things for my home. Very well merchandised, great prices, and easy service.

Every time I go in here I see so many thing's I want. I literally have to force myself out of there without going over board. I love all of the unique wall decor, fantastic shiny mobiles, and great t shirts to boot. Kenneth is always available to help, smiling, friendly, great service. The prices are also very reasonable.

Fun & smart is the collection that is offered at Kenneth Wingard. This spot offers even a hip collection of reading glasses and not to mention that "golden fortune cookie"! Anyone that desires adding a little fun to their home space and even lifestyle attire, needs to visit and purchase from Kenneth Wingard. The staff is awesome! During their holiday party, cocktails were offered to guests, reminiscent of offering "egg-nog" back in time, but in my case whisky & Gingerale. Definitely finishing up my holiday shopping list, here!

Wingard is a great home accessories store where it's hard not to find something that will add a nice accent to your home, sometimes even taking center stage. Design-friendly but not at outrageous prices (and make sure to look for their sales upstairs). This Castro location carries some metro beauty products as well, all fit for the well-groomed gentlemen. I also like Wingard's own take on the classic t-shirt - worn and comfy - and available in about eight strong colors. I'll stop into Wingard to pick up a gift - whether that's a fun coffee table book, a retro clock, or some wall art (love their hanging mobiles too), and they gift wrap too.

I totally dig this little boutique and stop in pretty much every time I make a trip to the city. I love the combination of class and style with fun and irreverent. Prices are a touch on the high side, but honestly, you try paying rent in San Francisco and then talk to me about how bargain-basement you really can be. I think that it's fair enough, and I'm just jealous of people who can afford to shop here more regularly than the few items I've picked up over the years. Staff are generally very friendly and helpful, and they don't mind if you browse around and take your time. It's not one of those places where you get an attitude if you're just window shopping.

I sauntered in here expecting it to be just another design-y boutique way out of my price range, but upon checking out a few price tags, was pleasantly surprised to find tons of way cool, affordable stuff (especially the vases...they had some amazing vases...hello house-warming gift idea!) Seriously, though, if someone gave me an unlimited budget with which to decorate an apartment, I could have cleaned this place out! Instead, I lived vicariously through my BF who bought a neat man-ring, wielded out of an old key, which he got for 75% off! That was just one find among many in this store...the have other great men's accessories (like billfolds and cuff links), a great selection of candles, clocks, photo albums, books, pillows, and a few models of major furniture pieces like coffee tables and couches. If I end up going to Prague in November, I'm definitely coming back to pick up a little book they had about "alternative tourism" in the city!

One of my favorite stop-in shops in San Francisco. I truly enjoy the walk up to Market to pop in and see what's new. The staff has rotated over the past year, but I have to say that they're all so very friendly and I enjoy going in just to say hello. It makes me feel all neighborly and stuff. We have many an item from Kenneth Wingard in our home. End tables, porcelain type balls, sculptures, hourglasses, books, jewelry, cufflinks...and my husband can't stop buying hats from there. I have one, he has about 4 (not to mention scarves and hoodies). It's a good place to buy a gift, and everytime we bring an out of towner in, they end up with a little purchase. I love you, Kenneth Wingard.

it's hard to find cute and affordable boutique-ish housewares. You could pay a ton for awesome home accesories at DWR and Zinc Details, only to find that not only is it carried in every cute SF boutique, but it's also being ripped to shreds on the Style File blog. Not so at Wingard; even though he carries some other designers, it's mainly his stuff and not carried everywhere. The best thing is, all those bright colors and clean lines equal not as much green. Hope you can handle the compliments. Ow!

I wnet into the store because I saw some shirts in the window I likes. Couldn't find anything larger than XL. I asked the guy behind the counter if he had anything larger and in a belittling and bitchy tone he said XL was the largest they carried. I said, "So you discriminate against big people?" He replied in a bitchy tone again that he doesn't do the ordering.

In this time of disappearing designer retail stores where the designer may even be the man you buy your unique gift, houseware or must have item from to complement your style and taste. Kenneth Wingard opened several years ago on Market between Noe and Castro and was next door to the wonderful gift store Earthones where stylemaster Omar served thousands of Castro residents with gifts, accessories and furniture that were traditional and of great value. Two levels of contemporary accessories, tools, gifts and unique decor that reflects Wingards personal zest, taste and practical esthetic, this two level store murmurs and whispers the message of instant gratification in the same way Gump's did for generations before. Taste and style never seem to go a way, Thank God, but they do evolve and change like the seasons and they refresh hope and inspire change when successful. Kenneth Wingard has those abilities in abundance and when entering his store, one is immediately relaxed and transferred into a world of beauty, desire and appreciation for design and beauty. The Castro offers very little in the way of unique retail shopping that offers style, class, beauty and inspired energy, where the merchandise is fun and yet desired too. When I remember Earthtones, think of Gump's and the still gorgeous wonderland known as Dandelion, I am reminded how fragile the business of creating, producing and offering fashion and style is and how fickle shoppers are in the long run. Thank God for inspired men and women who gamble on their taste and go into the business of anticipating what we will spend our dollars on.

So, I went in yesterday after seeing a great shirt, for my mom, in the window. The sales guy was super sweet and checked the sizes and said unfortunately - they didn't have her size. However, he went above and beyond and said - he'd put me on the call log list and will call me later when more sizes come in. He was beyond helpful, concerned about customer service, and made me smile. Thanks! I'll be back to purchase other items. :)

Retro-metro hits the Castro. If you're old enough, you might remember seeing something familiar in this shop 30+ years ago, and if not, you will delight in the cool and modern take on home furnishings. Leading edge looks and trailing salespeople. Less 'tude would help vibe. Cool stuff. UPDATE- Still cool stuff, but some of it is even more 60's that the stuff from the 60's. But the kid at the register still never smiles.

For my birthday last year I purchased a couple of wall sculptures made out of metal and painted white. They were unique and I still haven't seen them anywhere else since, which is hard to say about many of the other shoppes in this category. They have many modern and clean looking accessories for the home to choose from. I found out that their corporate office was around the corner from my work and was able to pick up my order there, saving on my shipping costs! Hey that could equal a lunch or two!

I've been in this store a few times to browse or purchase and, as always, am impressed! Classic, funky, and fun merchandise and a charming talkative staff to go with it! Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Ken himself and was blown away but what an awesome man he is! We chatted about life, his store, his creations, and other various topics. Not only was he a good listener, he gave me awesome ideas and advice and is a genuinely sincere and interesting person. I'm rarely blown away by a store owner but Ken is one fantastic guy! To anyone visiting the bay area or even the locals, I highly suggest taking a browse of his store because you never know what unique and one-of-a-kind things you might find for gifts or for yourself! And hopefully you will have the pleasure of meeting the genius behind the store!

Maybe its akin to going into a museum and buying the postcards, but I bought a t-shirt here. The decor and furnishings are stylish, fun and great to look at.... but, I am addicted to t-shirts that are unique.... and they had several. Worth a look (for furnishings or tees).

I stop by whenever they are nearby... a great place for quirky and fun, quality gifts. Great shirts for men and a fun selection of t-shirts and tanks (love the tanks for the gym). My favorite is "I love unicorns" which I gave to a friend who accepted a job with one of the tech "unicorn" companies. Great staff especially Roger and Kenneth himself should you see him there, is a pleasure.

I love this place. It is full of home accents you really don't NEED for any sort of functional purpose (well except maybe their uber cool lamps) but things you decide you can't possibly go without for another second because that super stylish whatchamacallit hanging on the wall of your bedroom would look really awesome over that doohickey ceramic thing that would go great on your dresser right next to that other jar like tchotchke. Plus, you can afford all three!

really great customer service. they're so nice and helpful here. i needed to get a gift for my bro, and the worker here was extremely nice and helpful. they don't have any boxes for gifts, but he took such care and time wrapping the shirt i got - quality service! the clothing is cute, and they have many well made leather bags. lots of home decorations too that would be nice additions to your living space. check them out if you're in the castro!

Want to buy bland tchotchkes from a man who drives a civilized, otherwise mellow woman to breathless sobbing? If you hate pregnant women, or customers in general, by all means shop here. First, let me quote their website: "If you are less than pleased with anything you order from WINGARD, we will cheerfully accept it for an exchange or a refund of the full price of the merchandise." My wife had an appointment near this store, and noticed a briefcase bag in the window, which she thought would be good for my upcoming job interviews. She popped in and talked it over with Kenneth Wingard. She told him she was not sure if her husband would like the item, and he reassured her: "you have 30 days, so its not a problem. In fact, I'll give you 60 days." Sadly, the bag was rather feminine for taking to job interviews (my wife is european), so we came back to return it. The employee told us "no returns, only exchanges, that's our policy." Uhhhm. What!? Well, we thought, the owner sold this to her, he must be reasonable, that's not what he told her, and its only 70 bucks. Its not like we bought a table or thong underwear. So my wife went back at the appointed time to meet Kenneth again - 4 times. He was late every time, and after waiting around for 20 minutes or so, she had to leave for work on the other side of town. Like I said, this happened 4 times. One day I get a call from my wife, sobbing. Hasn't happened before or since. She is pregnant, and I really thought she had lost the baby. She couldn't even talk. All I hear is sobbing. I am freaking out. Finally, after a lot of wet sounds over the phone, I hear the cause: Kenneth, who had finally showed up at the time his employees said he would. He remembered her, and even admitted that they did not have a "no returns" sign when she bought it (they've since posted one, real cool, Kenneth). And he refused to accept it as a return. So we are stuck with a credit at a store that carries nothing of necessity or utility to a pregnant couple with half a job. Avoid this place, and Kenneth Wingard, who blithely made a pregnant woman wordlessly weep.

They do have interesting things at this store, but the attitude of the staff leaves much to be desired. They act like they are above selling you anything. I don't like to be ignored, even if the t-shirts did need fluffing! Wouldn't selling me something be better for business?

Like a miniature version of Zinc Details. Picked up a couple things on sale for a great price. Worth a quick browse if you're in the area.

I like this funky and fabulous little Union street location. This tiny accessory store has big city flair from that cross-continental metropolis oft referred to as our east coast sister city (New York). The design of the accessories and the outstanding color schemes make for easy contemporary decorating for any space. I especially love all of the chocolate browns that seem to pop up every winter in their collections. In this ittty-bitty store the salespeople can seem a bit standoffish but ignore that and enjoy the great style and reasonable prices of the boutique's unique offerings.

UPDATE...seems they've added/changed to more helpful employees recently...+ 1 star = 4stars. I've bought several things here that were really unique and well priced. But what's up with the wanna-be working the counter? Such attitude.

I was drawn in by a cool silver globe in the window and stayed to admire a woven sort of shopping-bag-looking thing that would be great for farmer's markets--the right combination of soft and rigid--except there was no shoulder strap. The last thing I need at a farmer's market is something else that I have to hold. The walls are hung with many versions of their groovey "mobile-o's" which are sort of wall hangings. A lot of this store looks like slightly amped up West Elmwares. I have no idea why it's categorized as women's clothing in the Yellow Pages, though.

Walked in saw a beautiful lamp. Asked how much it was, there was no price tag. Guy at the counter was super bitchy and made up a price. "Ummm I could do it for.... $375". I asked if he had the lamp in any other finish. He said they did but check their website. I went home and checked. Turns out the lamp I originally wanted was only $199. Known for (soft) mid-century modern styled furniture and accessories for the home, Kenneth Wingard's designs are clean, colorful and, according to Kenneth, nspired by the American past. The past he deals in seems awfully of-the-moment, and his brand is on the march. Wingard is scheduled to open a second store, larger than the Union Street original, on upper Market, April 1st. Look for Wingard originals as well as pieces by some of his favorite designers, such as Angela Adams. The future looks incredibly bright for this architect-turned-furniture-designer with an Edwardian flair. Eat your heart out, Victoria.

Great stuff -- nice mod accessories and furniture with t-shirts, books thrown in as well. A good addition to Upper Market/Castro because its merchandise has more style than most of the other stores in the neighborhood.

Super, super happy with Jim and his help finding a very difficult-to-locate bag (this is one of only two stores in the natino that had one!). He helped me with my order over the phone and then overnighted it to me using my fedex account (no handling/packing fees), and it arrived beautifully. Thanks!

I want to acknowledge Michael and staff for a tremendous customer experience. Not only did I find my new favorite shirt at this wonderful store but Michael custom ordered my size, followed up diligently and held my item until I could make the trip from the East Bay. Needless to say I will continue to make the trip!

I gotta a really neat hanging lamp from there. It was made of plastic but it looks sooo cool. people are surprised when they touch it. this store is like Friend in Hayes Valley.

kenneth wingard in the castro is further proof that the world would be an ugly, sterile place fully accessorized by candlesticks from pottery barn and wicker baskets from crate and barrel if it weren't for the talented eye and instinct of gay men everywhere-and thank GAWD for that. i can almost guarantee that every person that voted "yes on prop 8" has either fake flowers or oak cabinetry proudly displayed somewhere in their home- the hallmark of a republican. people ask me all the time where to shop for great accessories, and honestly it's a very difficult question to answer. accessories should have meaning and character, and be personal to you. things like that take time to accrue, if you fill your home with june's current stock from ikea, in three months you will be sick of it as none of that crap carries any meaning. but that's what's so fabulous about kenneth wingard! he has designed most of what he sells himself from pieces from the past that have inspired him, and colors from the fashion industry, and all of it will make you smile-that's tough to do when we are talking vases and candlestick holders. also, you can be assured what you are purchasing is only available through him, so it's not mass produced stock you will see in half of your friends homes at some point. somehow he does all of this while maintaining a VERY reasonable price point AND a sunny disposition. seriously, he is like the anthesis of jonathan adler- actually well adjusted, content and pleasant and not selling kitsch goods at outrageous prices. go here and spend money, you will not be disappointed, your wallet won't be in shock- and your house will be fabulous.

i love coming to this store for home furnishings. they have great silk pillows, vases, lamps, candles and other knick knacks for very reasonable prices. great color palettes as well!

Kenneth Wingard is a pretty sweet spot to shop in Castro! SUPER friendly staff with a rad selection of eclectic things. Love their tshirt and tank top selection ;) Definitely a place to check out if you are shopping in downtown San Francisco.

I ordered a telephone from Kenneth Wingard on February 25th, 2015. I received a confirmation email and was charged for this item. It is now March 25th, 2015 and I still have not received this item. I also have sent emails and I called and left messages for Kenneth Wingard. I have not heard back. Beware when ordering online.

I was moved to write this review because we had such a wonderful experience! My husband bought me a laptop bag from Wingard a while ago. Unfortunately it wasn't exactly my taste so I returned it for store credit. I didn't happen to notice the line on the receipt that indicates store credit is only valid for 30 days! Yikes! My husband and I merrily went back to the store and picked out some glasses, some frames and a t-shirt, only to be sadly informed that the credit had expired. The guy working was super nice and suggested we speak with Kenneth directly, wrote down the hours he would be available and the store's telephone number. I called, spoke to Kenneth and he couldn't have been nicer! He let me use the credit right away and was so accommodating and pleasant! All-around a great experience!

always a nice stop when in the castro - great home decor selection, plus some shirts, bags, hats, books, frames and other stuff like that. pricey little things, but i always see something i like, and there are big and small things, too. sometimes you can catch something you really want on a super-sale-deal, but that's really only if you're lucky. a totally good place for gifts, because everything looks nice and smells good. ...worth it if you're not in the castro?? tough.... But definitely one of the many such good places throughout the city to hit if you are looking to freshen the home with new style.

this is absolutely one of my most favorite shops in the city. i wandered in back in december; not sure what took me so long to visit, but once i did...oh dear. for about three months, my partner kept screaming (while looking at credit card statements) "who the hell is kenneth wingard, and why are you seeing him over and over and over?" i find so many wonderful, unique, crazy, fun, things every time i stop in. they have really great books including fantastic travel guides; candles, art, groovy jewelry, great hats, interesting frames, unique furniture and my latest KW obsession, comfy t shirts. plus they have great "reading glasses" that are much cooler than the drug store variety. oh, and interesting things for kids too. and so much more. i seriously cant walk out of the shop without buying at least one thing, usually more. the guys who work there are super friendly and go out of their way in the interest of outstanding customer service. they have called me on several occasions to let me know that an item i had inquired about was now back in the shop.
