WARNING
My partner and I came here only to buy a small bottle of $12 of sake for cooking. One of the women working there demanded my ID, even though I was outside the store. And I’m a 31 year old woman
When I walked in and calmly explained that my ID wasn’t required and that this was for cooking, they already had our money. To avoid any issues, we picked up the bottle and began to leave.
As we were walking out, two women working there physically confronted my boyfriend. One of them grabbed him by the jacket, which caused him to fall down the stairs.
While he was on the floor, one of the women denied touching him, despite having just grabbed him. Only after realizing he had fallen did she step back and claim innocence.
This was not the first uncomfortable interaction. On Christmas, one of the same women crossed a clear boundary by flirting with my partner. When I addressed it, she denied it and said she was “sad because it was Christmas.”
To make things worse, we were overcharged $8 for a very small bottle of sake.
We are not criminals. We are decent people from this neighborhood, simply trying to buy one ingredient to make teriyaki sauce for our dinner.
From our experience, you may want to be cautious. We were treated with hostility, denial of responsibility, and physical confrontation. No one should feel unsafe while shopping locally.
