"Renowned Costa Rican architect Ronald Zürcher looked to his country’s colonial past when designing this hacienda-style property—witness its central courtyard, arched doorways, and terra-cotta roofs. Set amid a 30-acre coffee plantation just outside the capital city of San Jose, the hotel’s 308 traditional accommodations follow suit with dark wood furnishings, but a modern aesthetic pervades renovated guest rooms with streamlined furniture, intricately patterned bathroom tiles, and expansive views that extend from green lawns to forested mountains and urban skyline; some include small balconies that overlook the hotel’s two pools. On-site dining options include gourmet takes on Costa Rican fare at Hacienda Kitchen, Peruvian specialties at La Isabela, and fresh-made sushi at La Castilla, as well as a sports bar and café. The open-air great room invites reading and quiet conversations, but if you’re up for something a little more energetic, there are tennis courts, a driving range, a fitness center, and invigorating coffee scrubs at the spa."

I visited Costa Rica in August for my birthday and I had such a beautiful experience at this resort. The property is beautiful with a cultural touch and the views are breathtaking. The staff is so friendly and attentive, and Roy with the room service team especially made my birthday so special! I would absolutely recommend and would come back

Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen is an excellent hotel with impressive facilities, including a surrounding coffee farm and an on-site golf course. It’s only a 10-minute drive to Juan Santamaria International Airport, making it conveniently accessible while remaining quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed breakfast and evening snacks in the executive lounge, where we could even request menu items not on the buffet (which we only learned after talking to the concierge later), which was a great feature. Housekeeping was excellent, and the staff at the lounge were friendly and attentive. Overall, our stay was pleasant. Caveat: For a $100 room upgrade, guests can access the executive lounge with breakfast and evening snacks. Of this fee, breakfast costs $32 plus tax. We found out later that the main hall downstairs offers a buffet with more variety and a view of the surroundings for the same price. When we inquired about switching to that option, several staff members at the concierge consistently responded with “no,” even when we offered to give up the lounge access. One concierge promised to discuss it with his supervisor and return our call, but never did, so we had to follow up. On our last day, we attempted to invite a friend for breakfast in the lounge, which resulted in an additional charge of $40. As seasoned travelers, we have stayed at hotels like the Hilton, where guests can freely use the executive lounge and buffet for breakfast. Marriott Hacienda Belen could adopt a more flexible policy to serve guests better. I wish these options and policies had been clearly explained when the upgrade was offered, so we could have made an informed choice rather than feeling stuck without alternatives.

Of the total $100 fee, breakfast costs $32 plus tax. We later discovered that the breakfast buffet in the main hall downstairs, with a larger variety and a view of the surroundings, also costs the same. As frequent travelers, we have stayed at hotels like the Hilton, which allow guests to use the executive lounge and buffet restaurant for breakfast. Marriott Hacienda Belen could adopt a similar flexible approach to accommodate its guests better, and I hope when the room upgrade was offered, all these matters explained clearly so that we could have made right decision instead of stuck to it without any other options.

We stayed at the Marriott Hacienda Belén on our last day in Costa Rica before flying home, and it far exceeded our expectations. I originally thought this would just be a convenient airport hotel, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.||We arrived very early—around 9:30 a.m. after a flight in from the Osa Peninsula—and the front desk staff could not have been kinder. They went out of their way to get us into a room early, which made all the difference for a family traveling with kids.||The property itself is stunning: beautifully maintained with a true old colonial feel, yet modern and comfortable. Our children loved the pool, and we enjoyed a very nice (and surprisingly reasonably priced) lunch buffet at the Hacienda Kitchen. We also had access to the executive lounge, which I highly recommend. Having a light dinner and full breakfast there not only saved us money but was genuinely tasty and convenient. It was wonderful to be able to grab a coffee or cookie any time of day.||One of the most memorable touches came when a manager, Bryan, introduced himself while we were exploring the hotel. He completely charmed our kids (and us!) with an impromptu card trick performance. Throughout our stay, every staff member we met—including Brauner and Caleb—was warm, helpful, and welcoming.||Our room was modern, clean, and comfortably spacious, with no noise issues at all. We especially enjoyed watching the parrots and grackles in the palm trees right outside. Even the gift shop was a pleasant surprise—nicely curated and with prices better than what we found at the airport.||When we return to Costa Rica, this is where I’ll want to both begin and end our trip. Highly recommended!

Unbelievable stay with outstanding hospitality! The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and well maintained. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Plenty on on-site amenities and restaurants including the Steakhouse (that was excellent) and Bar 10, the sports bar, had such great staff. The gentleman at the front bellman area was so friendly and gave us some great ideas to go to off property. Highly recommend this resort for any stay in San Jose.

This is Marriott at its finest. Great hotel and amenities. The service is exceptional. Everyone goes out of their way to make this a memorable experience. Family friendly Hacienda; park on site; great pools; restaurants open late; relaxing Costa Rica vibes (pura vida); beautiful and well maintained gardens.

A timeless Costa Rican gem near San José|Every visit to the Marriott Hacienda Belén reminds me why it’s one of Costa Rica’s most iconic resorts. ||Whether you’re here for a quick stay near the city or hosting a special event, this property delivers the perfect balance of tradition and luxury. The classic hacienda-style architecture, peaceful courtyards, and tropical gardens make you feel like you’ve stepped into another era—yet everything is modern and impeccably maintained.||The pools and outdoor spaces are absolutely stunning, and the attention to detail throughout the resort is remarkable—from the ceramics and artwork to the warm lighting and lush landscaping. The dining experience is consistently exceptional, with top-tier food and service.||A big thank you to Saray at the front desk, who went above and beyond to help me check in early before my event and later arranged an extra night when I just couldn’t leave! The entire team is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel completely at home.||Pura Vida, Marriott Hacienda Belén—always a pleasure to return!

Convenient location, close to San Jose airport. The pools, spa, and restaurant were great. The grounds are beautiful. The concierge helped me book a nice tour.||Don’t stay in room 427. It’s next to the elevator and main hallways, so it’s very loud. Plus it overlooks the front entrance vs the beautiful views from other rooms. I did not ask to move because I was there for work, so they may have moved me if I had brought it to their attention.
