Food was amazing! I had the Jerk Ribeye. Wifey had Oxtails. Atmosphere was nice. Will definitely be coming back again.

Friday November 7th was my first time at the restaurant. Myself and 5 members of my family went there for my birthday dinner. There was no wait time to be seated as per reservation. Here is what I have to say: 1. For an expensive restaurant no one welcome you. Attendants were quite militant. 2. For starters we ordered codfish spring roll and It was Extremely salty. 3. Big Ass Steak: I ordered medium well and I got well done. In addition, 1/3 of the steak is fat. Serving a customer steak with so much fat is indicative of lacking attention to details. 4. Jerk chicken: this is clearly not jerk chicken. It is salt and pepper. …it has no flavor and the size of the wings (very large) is an indication of poor quality. 4. Fried fish: while the texture is good it has absolutely no seasoning. 5. Curried goat: Of all the foods it has the best flavor, but very spicy. You cannot assume that everyone likes spicy food. It should be noted on the menu “hot”. 6. Rasta pasta: lacks flavor and the pasta is not good quality. This restaurant is over rated and my family and I were greatly disappointed. For a celebrity chef restaurant the food should be better quality. In addition, the staff are very impersonal and operate as if the business is a production line. The business lacks supervision. The person who cleared the table didn’t ask if we’re finished. During dining no one ask how is the food?. After paying, no one acknowledges our presence by thanking us for coming. I will not come back to this restaurant and I will tell other relatives and friends to stay away.

Ripe is the vision of chef Nigel Spence, a Jamaican native who complete his degree at the Culinary Institute of America, following with time working at the Food Network, most notably Bobby Flay. In fact, his Jerk ribeye steak beat Bobby on his own show. On my first visit, I had to try the steak, which according to the menu has sold close to 150,000 plates. The steak is 16 oz. It’s a mix of lean and fat, and the menu is VERY clear about that. I would say the steak is probably about half and half, or maybe 60/40. I stuck to the lean, but that’s a me thing, not a them thing. The flavor is something I can’t describe, maybe because I’ve never had jerk flavor on a charcoal grilled steak before. I thought it was delicious—grilled and seared on the outside, medium to medium rare inside. I requested medium, and it might have been a little on the rarer side of that, but it really was just perfect. It came with tasty rice and beans as well as a refreshing green salad. I also got a side order of spicy fries, which were hot and seasoned, in a huge portion. I had the rum punch, which is quite strong. I was surprised, but their mojito is one of the best I’ve had. All of their drinks are simple—nothing fancy—tropical—things that make you feel like you’re on island time. The decor also makes you feel like you’re on island time—bright reds, plants, photos of Jamaica. Spence has said in his own words that this will never be a white tablecloth establishment; he wants it unpretentious and wants his crowds tipsy and inclined to sing and dance at any moment. This is more than a restaurant, it’s a community! Prices are super crazy reasonable. The steak meal was 32 dollars. Drinks 13-15. Service laid back, but welcoming. You could tell they didn’t care who you were or where you came from, they were just glad you were there! The owner/chef himself bussed my table and was there helping his staff, and that means a lot to me. The menu also has oxtail (only certain days), Rasta pasta, jerk chicken, a jerk chicken quesadilla, various iterations of plantains, shrimp, curry. I think next time I’ll either try to quesadilla or the pasta (which can be served with shrimp, chicken, or vegetarian). The parking is street parking. The outside is pretty unassuming and you can pass right by if you’re not paying attention. On warm evenings they open their patio and have live music, otherwise they play reggae overhead. I went around six on a Saturday and was seated immediately, though there were already several tables occupied (it’s a fairly small place). I spent a couple hours there and by the time I left, several more people had come to the party. It was all locals here. And everyone besides me was Black. That tells me I was in the right place. Can’t wait to go back.

My first experience here was wonderful. My significant other introduced me to this restaurant, and I was blown away by the customer service, the quality of the food and drinks, and how efficient everything was. Unfortunately, my second—and final—visit was the complete opposite. I wasn’t greeted when I walked in, and after I seated myself, the bartender/hostess dropped off a menu and a glass of water before walking away. When she returned with utensils, I asked her a question, which she answered quickly before leaving again. I ended up sitting there for about 15 minutes, waiting to place my order and debating whether I should just leave and take my business elsewhere. This second experience was terrible, and I will not be returning.

The spin on the Rasta pasta was delicious. Mushrooms, spinach… I loved it.

Ripe’s jerk steak is always a hit! And the price is unbeatable for that size and amazing taste. Tonight was my first time dining in as I usually order to go, and the atmosphere in the dining room is comfortable/laid back with background music but not too loud that you cannot talk with the person you’re eating with. The service from our waitress was phenomenal as she was so sweet and attentive. We came on a week night with less staff there so the service was slightly slow at times but the food came out quick & hot!

Excellent food. The steak dinner is delicious. The quesadillas were terrific. Overall it’s a great place to enjoy a good meal and a refreshing drink. Make sure you have cash although an ATM machine is available.

Mushy rice. Extra small fish (red snapper). burnt plantains. I complained about the meal unsatisfactoriness. They still charged me $28 for the meal. I took the fish and fed it to the birds in the park. Jerk wings are advertised as huge. But look at those baby wings. No spiceness at all.

A gem! Warm, friendly service and terrific food. Loved it and definitely will be back... jerk chicken quesadilla, plantain boat, and spinach all delicious. Will definitely be back.

Love the new and improved restaurant after the fire. The food is still on good, but the restaurant is more spacious than before. But I must say that I miss when they used to put a piece of sugar cane in your drink. Still one of my favorite spots.

The pepper shrimp was good , however the Rasta pasta was watery. Food use to be better but the establishment is still a vibe. The service is good the drinks were not that great. I ordered a drink that stated it was strong but tasted like juice. Small cozy spot, if you want to get out and grab a bite.

Our top favorite place. Love me some ripe been coming here over 10 years and I will continue. Of course it was only right my husband go to get his ripe and we are never disappointed ever. The staff is always A1 the food is never disappointing always amazing. The ambiance is nice comfortable and feels like home.

Ripe is a great experience. Once you enter and have a drink, you'll forget you're in NY. As the delicious food arrives, you feel like you are having a home-cooked meal on the islands. And all of this comes with friendly service. My favorite restaurant in MV.

So we decided to go to Ripe tonight for dinner since it was my Birthday/Valentines celebration. As we walked in we were greeted by a friendly hostess/waitress who also served us. We were told to order appetizers and drinks since the kitchen was slow; place is small with no more than 10 tables. We ordered codfish spring rolls and crab/codfish cake to share and two rum punch. It was Delicious!! Very impressed. We ate and drank and ate and drank; was definitely feeling the rum punch buzzing. After about 45-60 minutes our food came out; oxtail w/rice and peas and my boyfriend ordered the ribeye jerk steak. His food was on point; delicious, succulent, moist, seasoned jerk steak! My order finally came out and I was a bit disappointed when I tasted it. First offer had to wait a long time to order, the my food is room temperature and I was told they just made it to order. Very disappointing! Oxtail tasted like browning sauce, no pepper; spice, no salt, and a lot of fat on it. Rice & Peas was good but I will not order the oxtail again. Local Jamaican restaurants taste better. Will go back for appetizers next time! I

I'm not sure where the listing went for Ripe Kitchen & Bar but they're back and I'm sooooo happy! I was craving some West Indian food and since I need to order meals months in advance with my mother *side eye* the fam and I decided to order some Caribbean takeaway. Hubby mentioned the other day that Ripe was back and opened in a limited capacity. They closed down during the pandemic after an unfortunate fire. That had been in the badk of my king for a few days so this was a Greta opportunity. Hubby and I took our Little to D&B for some electronic fun and when we left, we made called in our order for pick-up. Kheri answered and was super friendly on the phone (and in person). I wasn't prepared for a 30-40 minute wait on the order but we made due and killed some time before heading over to the restaurant. They're located only 10 minutes from Co-op City so it's worth it for us to order take out for pick-up and drive it back home. The travel time did not hurt the meal in the slightest. Once we arrived to the restaurant, we could see from outside that they have done some nice renovations. The front bar area is currently serving as their only dining area but that will all change by 11/18/22, when they will be fully renovated and open to max capacity. If you're picking up, there's a clearly marked sign near the entrance to what will be their larger indoor dining area. Kheri assisted me, rang me up and rang me up and was very pleasant, smiling during the entire transaction. This was already a 180° difference from what I've experienced on a few occasions at this restaurant. My order was ready and we were set to go. Everything was still warm and tasty at home. Their menu is super limited but everything is still very good. Grub Rundown: Buffalo Soldier Jerk Wings - very tasty. Not spicy at all. The horseradish bleu cheese sauce that accompanied the wings pairs well. We all liked it. Negril Style Curry Shrimp - I ordered this with white rice and it was great. It's very spicy so make sure you ask to adjust for your tolerance. Mih yardie, so mih like ieet. Yard Gone To Italy (Rasta Pasta) - I got this for babes. I asked ahead whether it was spicy and was told no. It is not spicy at all. We're working on increasing my babe's tolerance for spice but we have to go little by little. She's getting there but in the meantime, this dish was perfect for her. Ripe's "Big Ass" Jerk Ribeye Steak - Both the fellas got this dish and it was perfectly prepared. We asked for mid-temp for both and they were executed as requested. They were paired with rice and peas and tipped with their Chadon Beni sauce, which is out of this world! Spicy, for sure, but worth the extra sips of rum punch. Rum Punch - Thanks to Covid, we're still able to purchase to-go drinks and I picked up two rum lunches for hubby and I to have with din. They are still great but which they filled up the cups to the top. You can definitely taste the Wrey & Nephew because they don't skimp on the rum so definitely order one for yourself. Im excited that Ripe is back and I'm happy to have them so much closer to us now. I'll definitely be coming back to dine-in. The food and drinks are great and the vibe is forever Irie!

I was immediately charmed by Kheri, the hostess. She pointed out menu favorites and updated me on the one item that was not available. I was interested in a late afternoon snack, and so had the "small plate" of perfectly seasoned ribs. Three good-sized ribs from which the meat really did fall off the bone were presented on a bed of crisp, fresh mixed greens. The drink and food arrived quickly and both were perfect separately and as a combination. I really like classy, family-friendly places. I have fond memories of being out at local favorites with my parents, and encourage such businesses with my patronage.

Good food! I would highly recommend to anyone........... definitely stop by for a meal. You will not regret!

First, let me start by saying rape is cash only. There is an ATM machine in the back but it's not free unfortunate. This is unfortunate for many reasons. Parking can be a bear here, depending on when Go, however, the food is delicious. Service however is slow and I mean slow because whether it's intentional or not, they simply don't have enough people working and this was a Saturday so it took about 30 minutes to be seated 20 minutes to get water definitely 25 minutes or more to get that drink which wasn't worth waiting for and then the food arrives and you realize it's delicious and you kind of let it go away. The ambience is just OK not too much to speak of. There is an outdoor area but it wasn't open yet and that might've added a little bit more to the experience. I definitely think they could do a better job with customer service

I recently went here w my friend on a Sat night because he had heard of the spot and wanted to try. So glad we did. We got there a little after 10:30pm but was immediately seated and given the menus. The spot seems kinda small from our peripheral, but that may not be the case. The bar can sit about 4-5 ppl and there were a couple tables nearby. The one we had had an outlet nearby so good to charge your phone just in case. For starters, my friend has the jerk chicken quesadilla and I had the jerk wings which were amazing. I couldn't eat all of it but had leftovers the next day. For the entree my friend had the rasta pasta w chicken and I had the oxtail w rice and peas, plantain, and salad. Let me tell you the meat was juicy and tender and the rice was flavorful. I was trying to have a conversation but the food was calling me and I was vibing to the music. For drinks, we had to get the rum punch and let me tell you, that ish is no joke. Def says strong for a reason so sip lightly and don't overindulge . All in all, its a cool spot to go to whether its family, friends, date, or solo. They do appear to take card but I think its a discount w cash (don't quote me on it) and they do have happy hour specials which I would love to try.

Super cool ambiance outside & in. We ordered the rum punch to start off with & it did not disappoint! It was strong but not too fruity either. We didn't order entrees we shared some small bites, the jerk chicken quesadilla, the Cuban boat (sweet plantain with stuffed codfish) & the jerk wings (duh). This spot is a hit! The wings were tossed in their version of a Buffalo sauce with their blue cheese dressing on the side. Extra saucy, nice and crispy. Cuban boat was well paired together & that sauce on top was such a delicious combination. Worth trying. The jerk quesadilla wasn't bad, I didn't love it. It needed more chicken in the quesadilla there was more mushrooms than chicken. Overall, this was a delicious spot. Our server was super friendly. I would recommend you tell a friend to tell a friend!

So I heard about this restaurant through a friend and they talked about how good the food was I'm such a foodie so of course I had to try. What can I say my friends know good food cause baby our food was everything and more. The waitress took our order she was very nice and attentive she asked us if we wanted to order any drinks we ordered the bed room Billie's supposed to be the strongest drink on their menu. When we got our drinks it was soooooo good and yes very strong right up my alley love me a strong drink I feel like I get my monies worth but her service was A1 and she made us laugh. the only thing I didn't care for was how limited food they had on their menu other than that everything was perfect. When we ordered I ordered the oxtails and my boyfriend ordered the steak the waiter warned us how big the steak would be and it was definitely a decent size. My oxtails was soooooooo good omg it was falling off the bone tender and juicy just the way I like them who ever the chef is shout out to you cause you really put your foot in those oxtails I'll definitely be back for more. My boyfriend said that was one of the best steaks he's ever had and he goes to steak houses every month with his friends he loved the pesto it gave the food and authentic taste and the rice and peas was made to perfection. The ambiance was so on point the lighting looked pretty they even have out door seating if you wanna catch some sun it's a decent size restaurant and definitely some mouthwatering food I highly recommend you check this restaurant out I know I will definitely be back !!!!!!!

The ambience in this place was very cool. Island flair all the way... with an at home feeling. Service was mediocre. Only 2 servers there and it was a busy Fri night. We got there about 8pm. Our server was very friendly, but we had to ask for some basic things (like water or napkins), several times. Food menu was very limited but food was perfect. My daughter ordered the oxtail and I had the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken gave me that back home vibe of when you order on the beachside! And the sauce was amazing! Appetizer was the fish "egg rolls" but I wasn't a fan.. a bit too salt and a heavy fishy taste. Can't comment on the bar drinks because I was the driver so no alcohol for me that night LOL.. I did order the homemade fruit punch which was ALSO GREAT! A bit pricey tho at $9.. Only con I had for this place was the music.. There was one speaker up front by the bar, but if you are sitting in the dining section at the back, you can barely hear it. I will definitely try this place again and hopefully give it a 5 star review!

This restaurant is HIGHLY recommended! The Big Ass Jerk Steak, The Pepper Shrimp, The Rum Punch all are true ode's to Jamaica! During our last visit, the owner, who's been on countless TV cooking shows told us that he was expanding the dining square footage to include an outdoor patio. We can't wait to go back to see what this place has morphed into, work schedules have been hectic but we will make it back there very soon! This place holds a sacred place in our hearts as the food, drinks, service and ambiance never disappoints! We STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

SO HAPPY THEY ARE OPEN AGAIN!!! The rasta pasta was my favorite, and after all this time, it's still delicious! The stuffed plantain boat is really good too. Friendly staff members complete the experience at Ripe!

My second time back. Very dark interior with lively Caribbean music playing in the background. They were closed for quite some time due to a fire and quite honestly I'm not seeing the updates that were done. Maybe the kitchen was renovated. Service was good and quick. The food was severely underwhelming. I removed the food tasting better during my previous visit. The drinks are still very strong but it does warn you on the menu. Would not return.

Favorite restaurant. The food Never disappoints! If you want great authentic Caribbean food then you have to go ! Soo very happy they reopened!!

I've been going to Ripe sense it first opened. Andy has an amazing menu. EVERYTHING on the menu IS GREAT. And you must try their rum punch

Jerk steak is the best! Great service and ambiance is on point. The codfish egg rolls are THE BEST!! (Last time I was there, about a month ago, they no longer sell them ) You should still check them out. Oh and it cash only so go to the bank first.

We stumbled upon a cozy Caribbean spot with fantastic ambience and a welcoming staff. The food was served hot and beautifully presented. The wings appetizer was seasoned to perfection, and the oxtails, rice and beans with plantains were a satisfying choice, although the oxtails were slightly chewy. My date enjoyed the pasta with chicken and shrimp, which was creamy but lacked a bit of spice. Overall, it was a great dining experience at this cozy spot, and I look forward to returning.

I want the old ripe back. I had three run punches at $15 a pop. No buzz at all. They use small glasses now. Jerk chicken wings not done. Not the same. The service is ok. Ambiance ok.

Food was good Service was great Ambiance was lovely I had family visiting from another state and needed to take them some where different that they don't have in their state so I thought Ripe would be a great spot. I was not so happy because they do not cater to vegans They did not even offer a proper vegetable dish that we have ordered. Besides that the place is great

I had the curry shrimp and rice it was ok. Make sure you bring cash. It's cash only! The drinks are good and strong. I had sex on the beach. The menu is very limited. The waitress was very nice and welcoming.

This place doesnt look like much from the outside, but it has a nice vibe. The inside feels a bit like a dive bar because its very dark. However, they have a nice outdoor patio that I prefer. I will warn you that the service is pretty slow and they seem to get very busy. I would recommend coming for an early dinner and assuming you will be there 2hrs. Its a cash only place, but there's an ATM machine that you can use. With that said, the food is pretty good and theres a good selection of items (oxtail, fish, steak).

Ordered a Shrimp Rasta pasta from here and it wasn't a Rasta pasta it just was spaghetti with shrimp and it was small portioned for $25!!! Total rip off ..Glad they opened back but man I'm not paying that kind of money for such a small portion

I've been going there since before the unfortunate fire. This place is top notch. It might take over an hour to get there, but it is well worth the trip! The drinks are strong and delicious. My favorite appetizers are the pepper shrimp and jerk wings. The big ass steak is my go-to meal. The meat is seasoned well. The rice and peas are phenomenal and the salad has just the right amount of dressing. They have lots of other options there including pasta and fish but if you're a steak lover - go for the big ass steak. The servers are friendly. The place has a good ambiance. Love this place and I hope they decide to expand!

If you want authentic yard food ... look no further , I've been coming to this place for years and the food is consistent ! Simply delish ! This place gives you a ambiance like you are really in resturant I'm Jamaica you would t know until you walked out the door onto the pavement . Every dish is literally great ! You can't go wrong with anything you order , i always have thee most amazing time here And the drinks! WHOA ! This famous " rum punch " you only need one . It packs such a powerful punch ! .. if you are a rum drinker or not this drink won't disappoint you . All the servers are so polite ! The dynamic nice . It's usually very crowded so i suggest to get there early ! The music is always great too .. just a beautiful vibe . Def my fav Caribbean resturant on the planet . GOT MY VOTE !

Absolutely loved it here! It was on my list of places to eat for a long time and I finally went and took my girl with me. It doesn't look like much from the outside but felt right once inside. We had an awesome time just drinking, eating and being our silly selves. We sat at the bar for their happy hour and we were not disappointed. The drinks were strong and the food was delicious. Donna our bartender, Kerrian the waitress/hostess and Courtney the waitress/whatever else were such great hosts and made us feel like family. We had the curry goat (a bit too spicy but still good), fish tacos (major highlight/must order), jerk chicken quesadilla, mango and passion margaritas and the bedroom bully. I definitely felt like I was in the Caribbean here & I really loved that vibe. It's a small place that seems to draw a fun & hip crowd & I can't wait to go back.

I never would have thought a place that looks so unassuming that you could literally walk right past it would have such good food. Met my girlfriend there for their Wednesday night happy hour. I had never heard of the place and drove right past it before I realized that was the restaurant as it looks like a hole in the wall. The first thing I noticed is that it was pretty crowded in there so I started thinking that maybe it's more to this place than I originally thought. They have an outdoor eating area but unfortunately it was closed as it's still pretty cool here in the evenings. I definitely would like to go back when that area is open as I love eating outdoors. We were seated and decided to order off the happy hour menu. We started with mango passion margarita's. I'm not a margarita person and when I do drink them I would prefer the frozen ones which they didn't have. To be honest, it was good and fruity but that's all it was - fruity. I didn't taste the least bit of alcohol in it so that was a downer but I continued on. We each ordered the tacos - you get three in a serving and you have a choice of jerk steak and fish (tilapia). I think there is another choice but at the moment I can't remember it. I was hesitant about the jerk steak as the one and only time I had jerk it was so hot I couldn't taste anything for a week! The waitress insisted that it wasn't too hot so I ordered two fish and one steak. We also ordered the Cuban Plaintain Boat to share but we never received it. Can I tell you that steak taco was absolutely delicious!! It was so good I ordered three more of just the steak - it was really good. The fish tacos were good as well - the toppings on the tacos were fresh and the fish was cooked perfectly (some places overcook the fish and it tastes dry). I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this little place but I definitely look forward to going back again. One thing to note, this is a cash only establishment so be prepared when you go.

I recently came here all the way from Brooklyn after hearing my coworker constantly rave about this place, and it definitely did not disappoint. The jerk steak was phenomenal, and the Rasta pasta was really tasty as well. We got the crab cakes for an appetizer which was delicious. Oh and the drinks, my my the drinks are really really strong but good. The only cons were they only had one server, the rice and peas were not that good. If you are up in this area I would recommend checking this restaurant out.

I have heard so many good things about this restaurant, so I finally Decided to give it a try ... what a disappointment, I get there , literally 6 items on the menu, it's Saturday 6pm .. so I choose to order the Oxtail, bartender said we're out of Oxtail, ok, I then chose to have the curry shrimp.. she then informed me there is no white rice.. so then I'm like " how long does it take to rice" .. anyway they figured it out , the whitest curry I have ever seen came , taste was bland. Let's get to the drink, $30 for a cocktail ... never have I ever paid $30 for a cocktail anywhere. And I go everywhere.. ok let's get to Dessert, THERE WAS NONE !!! Save your the trouble and go elsewhere, this place sucks...

I heard about this restaurant and decided it would be great for my aunt's Birthday dinner. We called ahead so that they were prepared for a big group; party of 10 (including 1 child, 3yrs old). Even though we called ahead and mentioned our party included a 3yr old...no one notified us that they do not have high chairs or a kids menu. It's a cozy restaurant with a relaxed feeling. They were very busy on this Saturday evening and I loved that they didn't try to rush us out. The food was made fresh to order so it took a while for our meal to arrive but it was well worth the wait especially for the fish. Everything was authentic and seasoned to perfection. The ambiance was pleasant, the food was absolutely delicious and the rum punch was definitely on point. I would recommend this, returning soon for a girls night dinner.

Finally tried the jerk steak ....... Not impressed I was so disappointed. I asked for gravy and it taste like gravy master with water.

When I tell you this is spot is a hole in a wall?!? But a gem it is. We went to celebrate my boys birthday and when I walked in I couldn't figure out how this place could possibly be a restaurant. But the drinks are strong and I can't remember whether or not the staff were personable because the drinks were that good. But you're here for the review of the food. So let's get to it. This spot is known for their jerk steak. This was a new concept to me, but I figured, I like steaks and I just love some jerk chicken. So what could go wrong? Absolutely nothing!! The steak was cooked to my specs (medium well), and that green chutney/jerk sauce that you have to smear over the steak was just divine. So if you're ok with going up to Mount Vernon for some steak then get to it. Be advised that parking sucks and this place is a literal hole in a wall. But you'll be pleased with what they're pouring at the bar and cooking up in that kitchen. BTW: This is a cash only establishment

Nice Caribbean food from Jamaica, Cuba and Trinidad. This restaurant is located in Mount Vernon, NY. I had Jamaican Beachside Style Fried fish, some small bites and drinks. Food was delicious, friendly waitress, casual and easy.

Ambiance feels like a small house in Jamaica, bright red walls, artificial flowers and curtains tacked up on the window. Reggae music playing on the background at times competing with voices. Tight seating, a bit of a wait for the food but we were told a larger party had placed an order. 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 drinks about $100.00 Overall a bit pricey. The good, customer service was superb and the oxtails were delicious.

The place is really small. But it's seems to always be pack. The staff seems to not be so attentive. I came last night to order take out and had to wait 10min just for her to ask what I would like then an additional 25 min for my food which I didn't mind since it was fresh. Me and my boyfriend order the Rasta pasta with chicken and shrimp. I didn't know the portion was so much but I really enjoyed my Rasta pasta. I wanted to try the rum punch since I heard so much good things about it but I wasn't able to take it to go and I was in a rush.

My pepper shrimp were a little over cooked but I didn't care! Because the SAUCE was delectable!!!! My stake was orgasmic!!!! Wow!!!! I say thank you to the chef for reminding me y we NEED to uplifting the ones that make our tastebuds dance a jig!!! Must have whenever you're in New York!!

This place has very good food but they always run out! It is a good idea to call to check would food they currently have in stock before you arrive. My coworkers and I try to go there once every few months on Sundays but something is always missing! They ran out of oxtail twice and plantains! We were given a menu but 2 main courses and 2 appetizers had run out. I think they should have held back on handing out the menus and just verbally introduced the meals of the day to avoid any more disappointment. I feel that plantains are a staple in and West Indian meal. The backyard was closed for renovations and that is truly one of the best parts of this restaurant it had island vibes and you feel as if you are transported somewhere else! I hope they get this fixed soon. I will go back but making sure they have food in advance!!!

Absolutely a hidden gem in this neighborhood. In a non descript storefront you'll find some great Jamaican food. Basic decor and ambiance but the you come here for the food. Great jerk seasoning on the shrimp appetizer you just want to lick your fingers and lick off all the juices on the shrimp. If you come here though you must order the Jerk steak. Great price on a large rib-eye steak that will gladly fill ones stomach. Generous portion at this great price. The jerk seasoning basted well with the steak and the steak was tender and flavorful. Comes with a side of rice and peas and a salad. You know it's good when afterwards you look down and all you see is a blank plate, no sauce, no gristle, nadda. Yum. Wonderful friendly service that made the dinner enjoyable and fun.

I think I might have been Jamaican in another life. Yeah, I know that's a pretty bold statement but hear me out. I love Jamaican cuisine so much that it seems that I may have grown up on it which is rather curious considering I didn't have my first bite of Jamaican food until my teenage years. But let me just say that one bite and I was hooked. So, looking for authentic Jamaican restaurants is always an endeavor for me. This restaurant nestled in Mount Vernon, NY is as quintessentially Jamaican as you can get--and I love it! Please do note that it's strictly cash only, but they do have an ATM in the restaurant for convenience. Rightfully so because with all the deliciousness they have on the menu you're going to need to take out a whole-lotta dough. You know an ethnic restaurant is good when locals come in and speak the native language and have a genuine look of happiness as they savor the food in front of them and this place has it in spades. I had one of my bon-voyage party here with close friends and coworkers (a majority of them Jamaican). I have to say it was more than a blast possibly because the drinks are--shall I say--filled with vigor. You won't be disappointed when you leave here; you might be singing erratically though. But enough of that, the food is really where this place shines. For starters I would highly recommend their codfish spring rolls and jerk chicken quesadilla. The Asian style fried roll is stuffed with plantain, codfish, roasted peppers, and caramelized onions. The quesadilla sandwiched a generous helping of jerk chicken, cheese, and mushrooms and served with an addicting tropical mango salsa. For the entrée I went big, as in Ripe's "Big Ass" Jerk Rib-Eye Steak. This 16 oz behemoth beat the famed chef Bobby Flay during one episode of his show Throwdown. The steak is jerk rubbed and grilled to perfection and served with rice and beans. Oh mama! And so there you have it. This place has authentic flavors of Jamaica, locals flock to it, and was even able to take down an Iron Chef. Need I say more?

Great food, I have visited there a multitude of times and my tastebuds have never been disappointed. This establishment does not take reservations unless it is a large party, so prepare to wait if you are coming on the weekend during the evening time. I also enjoy their innovative cocktails and artistic decor. Favorite dishes: Jerk steak, stewed fish, curry shrimp, and tacos (only available on Wednesday's). Summer deck is open during the warmer months which provides additional seating since this isn't a large restaurant. Received a 4 star rating due to the lack of professionalism of a few staff members but the others make up for it :)
