At Hemingways Eden, Nairobi's Art Scene Is Front and Center - AFAR

"A lively arts venue where evening programs include live bands on an outdoor stage and exhibitions staged inside repurposed shipping containers; visitors can meet emerging practitioners (for example, a young artist who guides guests through bright-hued woodblock prints exploring the personal meanings behind hair coverings), purchase works on the spot, and experience a communal, festival-like atmosphere under the stars." - Jennifer Flowers

This is a must visit for any lover of Nairobi urban culture and art. You can visit with artists as they work. High-quality and affordable pieces are available. I chatted up a few artists and made purchases. Such a great space for creativity and culture and human exchange!

Highly recommend a trip to the Kuona Artist Collective Centre. Such a bright and vibrant energy! The centre features the studios and art works of local Kenyan-based artists. When I visited, I was able to enter into the artists studios and see what they were currently working on. I had to opportunity to talk with many artists and learn more about purchasing their work from them directly. If you are interested in contemporary and want to meet folks in the scene, I’d highly recommend.

Studio Can-V has me by the choke hold. The artist lineups are insane. I was in for Noisey Boy's EP Launch. Names like Nyatelo and Attara are enough to floor you. Pictured: Nyatelo @Studio Can-V

Neat hidden gem in Nairobi. Caretaker opened up some of the offices and studios for us. Make sure to check out the New Haven restaurant next door.

Open studios where you can see artists doing there work. From paintings, sculptures, fabric, leather products... and a photo gallery of 15 local photographers showing their wot. Everyone was very friendly and you can also buy their art but you are free to just have a look with out any pressure of buying it.
