The Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ

Located in Dead Sea, Historical site for Jesus Christ. Many churches are around it. The security there is well maintained, with buses that take you into the holy water that Jesus was baptised in. The place needs a lot of rework, such as seating area, cooling places as it gets really hot in the summer.

What we thought would be just a quick drive up experience ended up being much more. Nice tour guide showing the various ancient sites including churches, cave of John the Baptist, the site of Jesus' baptism, and a place to enter the river Jordan. Definitely an even experience than we expected. Jordan pass makes for an even easier visit.

The Baptism Site of Jesus is an archaeological and UNESCO World Heritage Site believed to be the location where Jesus was baptized. It's an important place to visit, but the experience was not upto the mark. We had to wait for about an hour including 15 min inside the bus, when temperature was about 35 degree. The heat was unbearable and the visit was short. Liked the small, but beautiful church inside. There is a small museum too inside the complex. Buy the entrance ticket along with Jordan pass to save 4 JD/ticket.

Look it’s historic. Its sacred. Sad thing because a SPECIAL group which means $$$ was at the site where WE AREN’T ALLOWED TO WALK DOWN TO anyway but because of these special people or so called special communicants we were stopped and told TOURISTS MUST GO AROUND and then come back. CRAZY. Doesn’t this defeat the purpose of Baptism? It should be celebrated. Can you imagine Yeshua saying GO AROUND, I have special people today. If they were afraid of pictures, just tell the people but again isn’t it a CELEBRATION OF LIFE, OF SALVATION. Plus more likely most the people there would have understood the seriousness of the event. Plus signs are posted everywhere about giving respect to this holy site. People are automatically reverent. Please! This was a tad too much. Christianity is about INCLUSION NOT EXCLUSION. Egads you can be in the Vatican and a mass is going on while tourists are visiting at the same time. I know the current Pope would be disappointed and I can’t imagine how John Paul II would have reacted. Plus for others who want to be Baptized here or re Baptized remember YOU DO NOT NEED A PRIEST. Any baptized person can baptize you. Think of why Jesus came here to see John the Baptist. After Jesus was baptized he then baptized others. One baptized person baptizing another. That process or rite has been going on for over 2000 years. The whole visit was not sacred, not special but sadly memorable in a bad way. Plus visitors need to know that like all Rivers their course changes and why the baptismal site isn’t right at the current River on the border of Jordan and Palestine or Israel.

Nice place to see 2 countries in very short distance and free to take pictures also. Area under army control, but location was very nice and this is Holy place for All Christian’s.

I'm kind of touched by this site. A place where Jesus was baptized by John the baptist. The Jordan river is so shallow than it was and isn't as clear as it was,too. But it's nothing short of holiness. You will be impressed deeply.

I definitely recommend buying the Jordan Pass in advance. Amazing place, incredible energy, simply an experience of a lifetime. I would just like more time at the individual sites.

The tour was so so hurry and fast fast. Just take a picture and go. And I don’t really like it. I wanted to stay longer in this magical and spiritual place. But no, just like flock of sheep-take a pic and go. Disappointed by this approach.
