I Base My Travels Around Perfume—Here Are 7 Cities to Visit for an Olfactory Immersion | Condé Nast Traveler

"Built to educate and enthrall, this museum lets you smell the plants and raw materials that underpin modern perfumery, culminating in the Osmorama room with over 1,000 notes and accords. In warmer months, I pair a visit with the nearby Giardino delle Rose, home to nearly 400 rose species used in iconic scents." - Mary Honkus

"A Fragrant Journey Inspired by the spices and scents he experienced on a trip to the Middle East back in the early '80s, Florentine Lorenzo Villoresi began studying the art of making perfume, eventually turning his family’s 15th-century palazzo into his atelier and shop. Stop by the elegant space—richly outfitted with Carrara marble, Florentine leather, and Volterra alabaster—to sniff your way around the world, sampling perfumes that feature an array of unusual and precious (and often pricey) extracts and essential oils. In addition to a ready-to-wear collection of perfumes, home scents, candles, potpourri, and related accessories, Villoresi also creates one-of-a-kind bespoke fragrances for hotels, fashion houses, and individual clients. It can be an expensive souvenir, but the experience of helping to create your personal scent is one you’ll never forget."

Visited this perfume shop during my Florence tour of local perfume makers. It's probably the most interesting one. Not old but modern, updated one, with lot of stories behind the creation of each perfume as I was lucky to hear from the Lorenzo's wife itself in their boutique. I liked specially 2 perfumes and bought a sample box that will reminds me a beautiful time in Florence with all its scents. As once wise men said: "Perfume evokes emotions, feelings and memories." These are my memories of Florence.

The guided tour is a unique experience and incredibly informative. Elisa is an excellent guide and highly knowledgeable on perfumery. The shopping experience at the boutique is peaceful and enjoyable, and the shop associate is very helpful with questions and recommendations.

100/10 for customer service. We bought a gift set in May 25, travelled for 1.5 months and once home presented it to our brother. He opened the box, empty. No fragrances inside! A mistake happened along the way. But they resolved it professional and very empathetic: we've called them, they've shipped the missing fragrances at no cost. Beautiful fragrances!!!! Thank you for everything!!! Grazie Mille!!

Very nice tour with lot of interesting information and experiences. We have enjoyed the tour from A to Z, starting with great coffee and amazing snack, through the olfactory tour inside and outside (terrace). We'll gladly return in the future.

My best ever experience with testing and smelling perfumes! I am a total lighthead when it comes to perfumes and get an instant headache when entering a perfume shop in Norway. In this location it was just wonderful to come in, the air was good. We were lucky to be be arriving late so we had the saleslady to ourselves and she took us through almost their whole portfolio of interesting and wonderful perfumes! They were so natural but layered and interesting, we were almost treating it like a wine-tasting! The lady was very knowledgeable and helpful, trying to guide us to some final winners. The journey was long since it was all so fun and we just wanted to smell everything ! We bought 3 perfumes in all and I am sure we will be back next time we are in Florence!

The guy working there seemed tired or bored to have to deal with a customer (me). The shop was empty, and I bought a perfume, but I didn’t even get a sample or a small token. I also asked him to please gift-wrap it, and when the person received it and opened the bag, we realized he hasn’t done that either. I haven’t visited the museum, but the store for me was an underwhelming experience. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you love perfume, you are not allowed to miss this place when visiting florence. Museo Lorenzo Villoresi is an incredible place to learn about the art of perfumery, about the individual ingredients, about the origins of essences and of course to smell the finished niche perfumes by Lorenzo Villoresi himself. The guided tour is a good one hour, 18€ or 10€ if you are under 25 years old. The lady doing the tour is really kind and made us feel welcome the second we stepped in the doors.
