This bookstore has a big reputation, but the reality is more underwhelming. The interior feels quite worn and cluttered, with several single beds repurposed as sofas. There is a small reading area upstairs, and even if you don’t actually read, sitting quietly for a moment to absorb the Parisian atmosphere can be pleasant.
Photography is not allowed inside, which limits the experience a bit. Overall, it’s still worth a quick visit for the atmosphere alone. If you speak French, you might find a book worth buying; if not, the tote bags and small souvenirs are probably the better takeaway.
