After you check out the shops, be sure to explore the artistic secret garden out back. But watch your step! So many steps, bridges, photo ops, and artwork to discover back there. And leave a tip for your experience exploring it. There is a tip jar in the sculpture shop.

Loved this little shop! The coffee is outstanding and they sell fair trade, too. We ordered a few sandwiches and the ingredients were fresh, accurate, and tasty! So glad we found this shop and will stop by again!

A bit run down. Outside needs a good painting and inside needs a spring cleaning. The outside could use a facelift or good washing. Great coffee selection.

A great place to go for coffee by the cup or beans by the bag (small or large). There are so many different coffee flavors to choose from; the place smells heavenly as soon as you open the door. They sell ice cream -in a cup, sugar cone, or waffle cone- and usually have one or two flavors of sorbet (vegan; non-dairy) as well. It would awesome to see a soy-, almond-, or oat-based ice cream, too! Snacks, juice, and water are available but are pricy since they're just a small shop. Oh, and I never buy any of it because I'm not a "spicy" person, but they have all kinds of hot sauces, too, from all over. The owner has always been welcoming although he has seemed bored or just "done" some days.

Avoid at cost see below! 6 hours ago We stayed at Giant City State park. During the weekend we visited this shop(Makanda Java) but never again. This guy was an ass to my Family. Avoid this place at all cost!

I love this place. I used to stop in here when I lived in Carbondale. I wish I lived closer so I could get here more often. The owner is really nice and professional. I loved the wall of hot sauces and the ice cream is great. Sandwiches are great too. I definitely will get here again when I am in the area.

This place has the best coffee around southern IL . No Starbucks here thank god!!!! He sells coffee by the cup or the bean, many different flavors. If you like coffee , go and see for yourself . And he has ice cream cones too.
