"When visiting this dramatic, narrow beach in the wealthy La Jolla enclave, take time to admire—and photograph—its single surf shack. One of San Diego’s most important surf-culture icons, the wooden palapa is actually a designated historic landmark, built in the 1940s by soldiers and surfers who served in World War II and reconstructed as recently as 2016. Windansea is also known for its pounding, experts-only surf break; you should attempt it only if you’re experienced, but it’s just as fun to watch from atop the beach’s smooth sandstone rocks. For some peace and quiet, sunbathe in one of this stretch’s secluded pockets."

Windansea Beach is absolutely stunning! The sand is soft and clean, and the atmosphere is relaxed yet lively—perfect for a peaceful walk or watching surfers in action. The sunsets here are breathtaking, painting the sky with incredible colors. The rocky coastline adds a unique, photogenic charm. Even though it’s well-known, the beach maintains a sense of calm and authenticity that sets it apart from the busier beaches in San Diego. A must-visit spot!

Beautiful beach. I think the algae bloom or something was making it a little stinky tonight, but this is where there are photo shoots happening every evening it seems. Plus it is just a couple blocks from an awesome church, La Jolla Lutheran.

Parking is a real challenge, and be prepared to walk thru narrow residential streets. No amenities nearby. This is a surf beach, and the waves are legendary. Not for kids. Yes, the surf shack from the author Tom Wolfe. Surfer heaven.

This is the most beautiful beach and can get packed at times during height of warm weather. Lot of weddings happen here. We love it I go nearly once a week to look at and hear the ocean. The iconic shack is amazing and still there. The surf can be pretty crazy but more off to the sides. Summer is amazing here. I have taken so many pictures and share a few of them here.

Lovely area with walking paths and the occasional bench to watch the waves come in.

Local in water are punks, ....don't let your kids under 18 go out. Locals like to see them, and or....get close and toss their longboard at them! No joke! The bathroom is a mobile bathroom, super gross at all times! Good wheelchair accessibility. Food up the street 5 minutes walk. Don't lose your parking spot! Locals are mostly right side of the shack because they have FOMO. Visitors, and tourist are safer on the left side of the shack. Good luck....epic beach...fun waves!
