Lively, historic, and deeply rooted in Kölsch culture. The beer is served in the classic style, in small 0.2 liter glasses that stay cold and fresh. Servers circulate constantly and replace your glass the moment it is empty. They keep track of your beers by marking your coaster with tally lines, which feels charming and authentic. The atmosphere is busy and energetic, with long wooden tables, locals talking, and a steady flow of beer trays moving through the room.
The food is hearty and perfectly matched to the setting. We ordered Himmel un Aäd, mashed potatoes mixed with apples and served with blood sausage. Crisp on the outside, creamy inside, salty, savory, and deeply comforting. It pairs beautifully with the bright, refreshing Kölsch.
If you want a true Cologne brewery experience with great beer, classic food, and a sense of living tradition, Päffgen is a fantastic choice and highly recommended.
