Staatsgalerie Stuttgart

This is the MOMA of Stuttgart! You can find all the famous impressionist, expressionist and other modern artist. You will find some Picasso's, some Feininger, some Klee ... and much other famous artists of the last century. But they have also a huge amount of paintings of french, Dutch and german artists of the 15th to 18th century. All the classic paintings are very impressiv and most beautiful. The building itself is a combined postmodern architecture with an older neoclassical house part. The postmodern architecture now is a little scary, because it get soo many discussion in the community ... with todays view ... its more impracticable than ugly. But all together it's worth so see! Indeed!

The museum features incredible art collections from around the world! You can explore a variety of art forms, including abstract art, illusion art, oil paintings, acrylics, poster art, pencil drawings, and much more. If you are an artist and wish to observe every detail, it may take you about 2-3 hours, including breaks. Enjoy your visit!

This gallery was amazing to visit. It is so big you really could spend hours here if you wanted to take your time. Houses a whole room dedicated to Picasso with a dozen or so of his pieces. Also many other famous artists throughout the gallery like Modigliani, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Warhol. I went on a Saturday at lunch and expected crowds but it was fine and not too busy. And all for only 10euro entry. I love Germany.

very nice museum, great permanent collection; too bad the elevator from the parking garage is broken, not wheelchair friendly; nice café with tasteful dishes, a bit overpriced though

Expected it to be bigger, but overall the exhibitions are great. Would have been nice if museum souvenir shop had more postcards/merch with what actually is currently on display.

Wonderful collection of artwork in an iconic postmodern building. Highly recommended. Had the place largely to ourselves!

A must-visit spot in Stuttgart! The architecture is striking both inside and out, blending modern design with classic elements. The collection is diverse, featuring everything from old masters to contemporary works. The layout makes it easy to navigate and enjoy the exhibits at your own pace. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great experience overall — highly recommended for art lovers and curious travelers alike!

One of the best museums in Stuttgart if you enjoy paintings in general. Entry to the main exhibition is free for students. It has two buildings: the older one is a nice mid-19th-century building that was originally an art school, and the extension building is one of the best works of James Stirling.

On my recent visit to Stuttgart,I spent two delightful days enjoying the Staatsgallerie's very wide range of Art.Since this art museum is very prodigious,I have restricted this review to its fine collection of Italian Paintings from the 14th Century until the 20th Century. Studying the Master of the Chapelle Medici Triptych's"Painted Cross with Christ,the Virgin,Saint John the Evangelist,and the Pelican"produced in the 14th Century was an auspicious start to my study of Italian Art.Other 14th Century paintings that I especially appreciated were Master of the Augustus Vision's"Emperor Augustus and the Tiburtine Prophesy Sibyl",Spinello Aretino's"Enthroned Madonna",Bernardo Daddi's"Fragment from Crucifixion Group",and Niccolo Da Segna's"Saints Catherine,Margaret,and Mary Magdalene" From the 15th Century,I especially relished Lorenzo Monaco's"Madonna and Christ Child",Fra Angelico's"Miraculous Feeding of the Dominicans",Marrioto di Nardo's"Arcita and Palomine Catch Sight of Emilia",and Giovanni Dei Paolo's"Saint Christopher" 16th Century Italian favorites included Vittore Carpaccio's"Martyrdom of Saint Stephan",Giovanni Di Giglio's"Crucifixion"(splendid Mannerism),and Jacopo Tintoretto's"Portrait of A Man" I saw fine exemplars of 17th Century Italian Mannerism by Francesco Furini("Penitent Mary Magdalene",Giovanni Bilivert's"Apollo and Daphne",and Pietro Della Vecchia's"Tribute Money". As for the 18th Century Italian Paintings,I especially liked Guisseppe Gambarini's"Egg Collecting Monks",Giovanni Batista Tiepolo's"Rest on the Flight Into Egypt",Gaspard Traversi's"Operation",and Giovanni Pannini's"Roma Antica",a splendid very punctilious painting. Finally my study of Italian Art at the Staatsgallerie culminated with three delightful paintings by Amadeo Modigliani("Reclining Nude")For those of us with a limited knowledge of German,there is labelling of the works of Art in English as well as German..Indeed,the Staatsgallerie is a very special art museum.

This is a world-class art museum in the heart of Stuttgart. I had a religious experience walking around and absorbing the art. First of all, we had the 9-Euro bust ticket which got us both in for 10 Euro total. Leave your backpack and water bottle in a locker and go on your way. We were greeted by a very pleasant docent who helped us navigate the Old vs. New art in the museum. Every room has signs in German and English which I greatly appreciated. We quickly walked through the old stuff on a floor just to work ourselves over the Modern art collection. One aspect of the older work that I appreciated was seeing the artwork of local Stuttgart residents-- these are artists that never made it to my art history classes. I will go back the next time I am in Stuttgart to see the OLD stuff, hoping there is a Durer in there somewhere. The art here was by artists I was familiar with but all of the works were new to me. I was in art heaven. Modigliani, Mondrian, Franz Marc, George Grosz, Kurt Schwitters, Otto Dix, Joseph Beuys. There were just so many lovely surprises here. Don't forget to visit the small but mighty gift shop on the way out. They have a delightful selection of art-themed gifts here sure to please. Thank you, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, I will be back.

Beautiful!!! We visited the gallery on a rainy day and it was perfect!!! I didn't care so much for the Abstract and Modern Art - even though I am a big art nerd. I absolutely loved the Picasso room and the art of the 1700 and 1800 era. The paintings where breathtaking! We didn't make it through the whole gallery and i wish we would have had more time.

State Gallery is really interesting and very popular art museum in Stuttgart which houses modern art collection of 20th century (Pablo Picasso, Oskar Schlemmer, Joseph Beuys, etc). Admission price to collection on Wednesdays is free. There are also special exhibitions, guided tours and lectures and possibility to buy art books and souvenirs!

Interesting modern art museum in the heart of stuttgart. We weren't planning to visit here but happened to stumble across it and decided to check it out. It's one of the only art museums in the city from what I can tell, with the other main museum based attractions being the Mercedes Benz and Porsche. Anywho, when we entered there was nobody working the front desk and no posted signs about an entry fee, so not sure if there is usually a charge to enter or not. We sort of toured the museum "backwards" starting with the newest to the oldest. This museum was quite bizarre in a way, especially the most modern pieces from 1980 to present. Some of the works on display were so bizarre they were borderline humorous. You'd have to go see it for yourself, but it's worth checking out. At the time of our visit it was nearly empty and we rarely saw any other visitors, but there were plenty of staff roaming around each room to answer any questions. If you're in the city and have some free time, stop by for a peek!
