Coul House Hotel

I reserved a table for two for my wife's birthday lunch. We were welcomed most graciously and seated in the bar area and offered drinks. The log burning fire was lit and the atmosphere became most festive and cosy. The hotel was tastefully decorated throughout with Christmas trees etc. Not tacky if you know what I mean.|We were then taken to our table for and the staff remembered the bottle of champagne on ice that I had suggested when I booked three months previously.|The food was excellent. I pride myself on being a reasonably good cook at home but chef excelled today and I realise that I am but a novice . One has to experience the sea-food pancake!! The champagne was delicious. The service and attention was exemplary. The sommelier knew his wines and his recommendation was top class and truly to my palate. Such a relaxed and enjoyable three hours. We will definitely be going back for my birthday and hoping to stay overnight for two days. Thanks to all for making my wife's birthday meal a wonderful memory. JJW

Coulhouse is beautiful and luxurious in a gorgeous setting (especially with the snow). We had a lovely view from our room and the whole place was spotlessly clean. We received a warm welcome from the lovely Susannah (one of the owners) and from the onset we felt quite at home! Service from all staff was exceptional especially Chris in the bar. Great breakfast selection. Dinner options were also good and the food was exceptional. We stayed off season and the value for money was excellent. We would absolutely stay again. Loved it!

The Coul House was the most charming hotel. The owners made us feel right at home and everyone on their staff was so lovely. These are the NICEST people we’ve met!!! The food was outstanding and the service was so gracious. The location was perfect for day trips to the Scottish Highlands and to Dunrobin Castle. The owners gave us really great recommendations for the highlands and also for hikes and restaurants up north. We couldn’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It was an 11/10 experience!

We stayed 17-19/11/25 in room 6.||||We were warmly welcomed at the door and shown to our room. Our dog was made to also feel welcomed. ||||On the first day we had afternoon tea which was made to order and fresh , the scones were amazing and the homemade Jam was delicious, I’m not usually a jam person. ||||The Breakfast on both mornings was made to order, nothing was any trouble. ||||We ate in the dining room on the second evening and took Stuart’s recommendation of the Guinea fowl and the lambs livers for our main courses and they were amazing. Having grown up with fried to death liver I was wary but when I was advised on how the liver was seared at the the end of the prep I went with Stuart’s judgement and was not in the slightest bit disappointed, it was beautiful. ||||Our room was spacious and comfortable and I honestly couldn’t find fault in our stay. ||||I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to get away for a few days or longer. There are many decent walks around and my dog had fun playing with the others that were staying or running round the ample gardens. ||||The hosts and the staff were all amazing.

I recently traveled to Scotland on an 11 day tour. I had the privilege of staying at the Coul House for two wonderful nights. My sister and I received gracious and personable service at every turn. Our room and the grounds were just stunning and beautifully appointed. The fire and candlelit meals just added to the ambiance and enjoyment. Stuart and his staff do a fantastic job in making the Coul House a spectacular and memorable stay. It truly was a highlight of my tour of Scotland!

Beautiful country house . Such a relaxed atmosphere with staff who only wanted us to have a lovely time and made nothing feel too much trouble. Cosy bar with any drink you could wish for and a super selection of whiskies. The dinner menu was varied which made choosing difficult but the food served was just perfect. We both loved our choices. Breakfast was first class and all the foods were of good quality . So glad it was served on piping hot places. The bedroom was cosy, comfortable and the shower was excellent . We loved our short stay and hope to be back for another lovely winter break .

Absolutely lovely old country house hotel in its own attractive grounds.Very comfortable room with outlook towards the mountains.We had dinner which was good though my Roast Turkey and all the trimmings was, I have to say, only a patch on my own home cooked version a few days later.Turkey was nice but roast potatoes weren’t roasted,a bit soggy and no nice crunchy exterior which was very disappointing.Stuffing did not seem home made, two tiny slices and very tasteless and pale.|My husband’s steak was good.|However, the Xmas pudding was really good.|I did try the porridge next morning but it was -as seems to be the case everywhere these days - really quite awful.Watery, tasteless and actually more like gruel.Don’t know why chefs can’t make even half decent porridge these days.It’s the simplest thing but needs decent quality oatmeal to start with and cooked with milk.The difference is incredible!

Wonderfully relaxed and welcoming. Fantastic food, service and value off season. |Dogs are very welcome, grounds gorgeous for walking, very restful, friendly and comfortable, not stuffy at all. Will definitely return.

Outstanding in every way. 1. Accoms: clean, comfortable, and the owner and staff will do anything to make your accommodation perfect in every way. 2. Atmosphere: old elegant historic yet Scottish charmed and on point. 3. Food: not what we expected. Surprisingly high end 3-3.5 Michelin Stars and exceptionally crafted. Cooked to perfection. Keep the chef and kitchen staff. Every meal was spot on; fresh, tasty, and picture ready. Breakfast was also outstanding. A full Scottish breakfast was undeniably memorable. 4. Service: 5 star. Every staff member we interacted with had the exact amount of decorum and judgement to make every guest feel welcomed and comfortable. 5. Owners: charming, and interact with guests doing whatever is needed to treat you like a VIP. WE WILL RETURN!! Thank you for the memory.

This was an excellent hotel. Very clean. The menu for dinner was excellent and the food was top notch. The staff was totally professional and makes you very comfortable. The whole theme was to relax.

We spent the night at the hotel and enjoyed both their full dinner and Scottish breakfast. Both were excellent. The dinner service is very traditional. They seat you in the bar or lounge with the menu and you order from there. They seat you in the dining room when the food is ready to be served. We had for different entrees and enjoyed them all. The service was spectacular, as well. The breakfast was pretty standard but very good and they accommodated special orders with no trouble.

We had booked two nights at the Tullock Castle Hotel. We were so disappointed with the condition of the hotel and the bed was awful. We checked out early and called the Coul House Hotel. Fortunately they had a room available and we moved over to Coul House. It was beautiful and well maintained with beautiful gardens. Everything was what we had hoped for. We had dinner at the hotel and it was delicious. The food was great and the staff was perfect. Can't recommend it enough.

We highly recommend Coul House Hotel. We stayed 5 nights and were treated like family. The food was superb and the hospitality was outstanding. I usually don't leave reviews, but I just had to as Stuart and Susannah, the owners, helped make our stay in Scotland so memorable. If you find yourself anywhere near Inverness do yourself a favor and spend a few nights at Coul House Hotel.

We only ate lunch here, but it was one of the more memorable meals on our journey. We pretty much stumbled across the place after a hike made us hungry and miles from any type of city. We followed the sign and almost gave up halfway up the hill when we saw another sign telling us to keep going. The lady at the desk welcomed us and suggested either the lounge or dining room; we chose the lounge. I had a daily soup, asparagus and smoked fish, which was some of the best soup I'd ever had. The smoked salmon sandwich with cucumbers on a baguette was also amazing. The beer was lovely too. The service was warm, friendly and impeccable. We would love to stay a few nights someday.

Stopped overnight here and was very very sorry we couldn't stay longer. Stunning setting, friendly people, beautiful breakfast - and unlike most of these sort of hotels in Scotland, modernized just to the right amount, without losing any of the ambience. Highly highly recommend!
