A great location for the entertainment and eateries in Northbridge, including the LGBT quarter.
The room was compact and bijou - not even space for a wardrobe, just a couple of hooks with hangers on the wall.
The bathroom was nicely finished, though small, and weirdly had the towel rail actually inside the shower cubicle which is rather odd, unless you like damp towels. And one of those fancy shower cubicles with no door so water splashed all over the rest of the bathroom too. Poor design choices. The blinds in the frosted bathroom window didn't seem to work, but I guess nobody outside can see anything other than your blurred naked outline so it's ok.
Linens and towels were clean, as was the room - not really big enough to get dirty.
We booked a "balcony" room, although that is a very grand description of the less than 1metre square platform. Only space for a single chair and a view into the restaurant kitchen opposite so totally not worth paying extra for the "balcony".
No tea of coffee or water in the room, so in standard hotel ratings this place wouldn't even qualify as three star.
However, unlimited tea and coffee is available in the 1st floor lounge. I say unlimited, though they made it quite clear at check-in that unless you pay for breakfast there is no access to the tea and coffee during the breakfast hours. Which, let's face it, is when most people are wanting a tea or coffee so again, like the description on the balcony, the tea and coffee provision is slightly mis-stated.
Being close to clubs and bars, the hotel is nice enough to provide complimentary earlier plugs. If you're an early sleeper you'll need them.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful during check-in.
If you want a small no-frills room in a great location, you'll love the Alex. If you value a nice coffee in bed, go somewhere else.
