"If the owners of your favorite café — or in this case, your favorite wine bar or small-batch distillery — suddenly got into the hotel game, you’d probably sit up and notice. So it is with Alex Hotel, located in the heart of Perth’s buzzing Cultural Centre neighborhood. The team behind it already had a good thing going before opening the doors to this cool 74-room hotel. Several good things, in fact, and Alex Hotel is just the latest in a series." - Tablet Hotels

A great location for the entertainment and eateries in Northbridge, including the LGBT quarter. The room was compact and bijou - not even space for a wardrobe, just a couple of hooks with hangers on the wall. The bathroom was nicely finished, though small, and weirdly had the towel rail actually inside the shower cubicle which is rather odd, unless you like damp towels. And one of those fancy shower cubicles with no door so water splashed all over the rest of the bathroom too. Poor design choices. The blinds in the frosted bathroom window didn't seem to work, but I guess nobody outside can see anything other than your blurred naked outline so it's ok. Linens and towels were clean, as was the room - not really big enough to get dirty. We booked a "balcony" room, although that is a very grand description of the less than 1metre square platform. Only space for a single chair and a view into the restaurant kitchen opposite so totally not worth paying extra for the "balcony". No tea of coffee or water in the room, so in standard hotel ratings this place wouldn't even qualify as three star. However, unlimited tea and coffee is available in the 1st floor lounge. I say unlimited, though they made it quite clear at check-in that unless you pay for breakfast there is no access to the tea and coffee during the breakfast hours. Which, let's face it, is when most people are wanting a tea or coffee so again, like the description on the balcony, the tea and coffee provision is slightly mis-stated. Being close to clubs and bars, the hotel is nice enough to provide complimentary earlier plugs. If you're an early sleeper you'll need them. Staff was very pleasant and helpful during check-in. If you want a small no-frills room in a great location, you'll love the Alex. If you value a nice coffee in bed, go somewhere else.

A cool hotel in a perfect location to explore Perth. Close to the train station and bus station, lots of great bars and restaurants nearby and we would highly recommend staying here. The staff were all fantastic, helpful and professional and our room had everything we needed. Hot and cold drinks available in the breakfast area at all times and we would definitely come back. Thank you team Alex hotel - 10/10 from us

Google
I agree with comments, whilst this is a very nice looking hotel with great art work and good bed, it might be just suffice for some. The continental breakfast was 28$ per person if not included in the room price, and that’s bread (a good one thought) with butter and jam, no cheese or cutlets, it included also cereals and chia yogurt - very good quality too. The fruits were nice. The coffee you get is from a thermos and even though there is a barista, they obviously don’t know how to make a coffee mixing the machine coffee which gone broken with heated milk… why the barista is at the breakfast in the first place if not making coffee for the guest (paying a premium for a breakfast) I would have a question. We were unfortunate to have a cockroach in the room (with small balcony and one chair as someone nicely put it) so we had to pack our bags during Christmas night and move. I was surprised by the front desk lady asking the day after how was the new room and we said that 6th floor was nicer than 5th, then she replied that it was the only option on the day, not sure why to ask a question then only to say “well unfortunate for you”. Otherwise the coffee machine and tea on the 1st floor worked fine for us. One thing I don’t get is the vanity water going all around the place - the tap is clearly out of place in both rooms same problem. The noise from the street is there, when the other area around will get finished this place will come into light from a totally different angle. And yes, they have a very nice roof top terrace which makes it up for many of the things. I also found 4 hangers a bit too little for the room.

This is a fantastic hotel. So central and close to everything. We have been to this hotel before so we booked it again. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. The room was large and very clean and had everything you needed. The rooftop is amazing to sit with your morning coffee or a drink. This hotel is highly recommended.

Google
can't speak highly enough about my stay at Alex Hotel in Perth. From the moment I walked in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere made it clear this was going to be something special. The design is modern yet cozy, with beautiful attention to detail throughout — from the curated art to the inviting communal spaces. The room was impeccably clean, stylishly minimal, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was perfect, and the linens were high quality, making for a great night's sleep.

Staff were very friendly, nice, and welcoming. Room was clean and comfortable, although a bit on the small side and with minimal amenities (no desk etc). The hotel is well situated in a lively area of town, although that comes with the caveat that it was incredibly noisy (outside?) on a Friday night.

Before our stay, we were really looking forward to Alex Hotel because its overall design style is exactly what we love. Out of our three nights in Perth, we stayed here for two. Our room this time was 514. Upon entering, we felt the room was a little small, but overall we were satisfied. However, once we turned on the air conditioning, we noticed a musty, sweaty odor constantly blowing out. Coming from subtropical Asia, this is a smell I might occasionally encounter on the street from someone passing by—but I never imagined it would be coming from the AC in a hotel room. At first, we thought it was just because it had just been turned on, but unfortunately, the smell persisted throughout our entire 3-day, 2-night stay, which was quite bothersome. Another issue was the soundproofing. Room 514 is at the end of the hallway, very close to the doors of rooms 515 and 516. One night, the guests there went in and out frequently during the middle of the night, and the constant door-slamming noises carried straight into our room, making it feel like there was no sound insulation at all. On Friday night, the lively music from outside also came through the window, so light sleepers should definitely bring earplugs or headphones. As for the bathroom, although it was designed with separate wet and dry areas, the shower glass partition only covered half the space. This meant we had to stand carefully in the corner while showering, or else water would splash all over the bathroom floor. If the hotel wants to keep the dry/wet separation design, we’d recommend installing a full glass partition. That said, I really liked one of the hotel’s initiatives: if you choose not to have housekeeping enter your room to replace supplies, you’ll receive a $10 credit per day, which can be redeemed at checkout. We chose chocolate bread, and it was surprisingly delicious. Lastly, the staff were fantastic—their service attitude was excellent, and they were especially helpful when we needed to store our luggage after checkout. If the issues mentioned above can be improved, I would definitely still consider staying at Alex Hotel again the next time I visit Perth.

Yelp
I want to move into this place! Like a "hostel for grow ups", Alex Hotel in the heart of Northbridge I would say is Perth's best hotel. The place feels lively, communal, and has a spirited creative vibe. When you walk in you're greeted by a friendly reception who don't have the usual "ring bell for service" attitude, but rather a "welcome to your new home!" feel. I haven't actually stayed in a room so I can't speak for that, but there is: 74 rooms, 24 hour reception, homemade communal breakfast, free WiFi, lobby cafe doubles as a co working space and there's complimentary chic bicycles to explore Perth city. It's beautifully furnished and thoughtfully curated with the 'traveller' rather than 'tourist' in mind, and as a 'local' I would kind becoming a staycation 'regular' at the Alex Hotel.

Yelp
Disappointing! Disappointing 2nd time around. Reception staff friendly and helpful. They make nice coffee downstairs, however the idea of no coffee making facilities in the room would be fine except the coffee upstairs was either cold, stewed or empty! Doors no longer fit properly so the wind and the noise from the hotel opposite seep in! With a full hotel the breakfast staff (only one) cannot cope and so if there are any spare tables these are not cleaned as the staff are too busy making speciality coffees! The breakfast ran out each day unless we were there at 7am. The little fruit bowl in the middle of the table is big enough for a family of 4 not for a whole hotel. The muffins never enough to go around, if more came they were gone in the blink of an eye! By no means a "hearty continnetal breakfast" as advertised!! The noise from the cleaning staff was awful, slamming of doors, shouting to see if anyone was in a room, not servicing the rooms that asked to be serviced until last. Beds not made properly.

Yelp
Stayed here for our 10 year anniversary. It's a great boutique hotel. You feel very relaxed and at home. Their front desk staff are so friendly. We we're on the six floor with amazing views from the balcony. The rooftop area is also amazing especially with the views at sunset over the city skyline. Highly recommend this hotel. Great location as well. We love the decor and the rooms were comfortable with quality linen and towels. I travel a lot for work over east and wish that this type of hotel is available on the east coast. A must stay for people wanting a little different to your usual hotels.

Yelp
Perth's newest addition to the hotel scene, Alex Hotel has popped up in funky Northbridge, surrounded by bars, cafes and the cultural hub of the city, and just a quick hop across to the CBD. Although rooms are on the petite side, they are perfectly comfortable, the bathroom is compact but well lit with a seriously good shower, and the Sodashi amenities are an added luxury. The 'hip' facets include a spacious and comfortable lounge area with complimentary tea & coffee, plus an honour bar stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks. Breakfast is a delicious continental buffet with all but the gluten free bread made in house. Perfectly good filter coffee and tea are offered on the buffet, or order from the lobby level barista (extra cost). Outside the door is a great Japanese restaurant, two blocks away a superb Mexican, across the road a couple of busy pubs and sports bars, and cafes abound. For some peace and quiet grab a beer or wine from the honour bar and retreat to the 6th floor's rooftop terrace! Whilst I wouldn't recommend this place to the average business man - or my Dad! - for anyone who likes their hotel to have a bit of character then the Alex delivers in spades. Keeping in mind the area is surrounded by bars, earplugs are stocked in the bathroom and, although I didn't need them, my colleague mentioned the noise was a problem for him on one night.

Yelp
My colleagues were in town for a meeting. We got to share the accommodations as we booked several rooms. In one of the rooms we booked was a single double bed. Toilet & shower en suite. The window in shower was floor to ceiling. The window screens could open so you could get a view of the street. Very Au naturale. Check in was uncomplicated & no barrier between reception and guest. Downstairs lobby was like a comfortable home. The dining area upstairs had a self service bar!! My colleague K got in late. So after checking in we went for dinner round the corner at Flipside burgers recommended by the Alex Hotel. Being in Northbridge the eating joints and drinking holes was endless. Across the road was the Brass Monkey for drinking aficionados. The train station was 5 mins walk towards CBD. However there is no train to the airport. So despite the convenience of the nearby train station you have to catch a taxi, Uber or try the airport bus shuttle. Neat package if u ride a bicycle. Bicycles are allowed on train as long as it is not peak time in morning and afternoon.

Yelp
Stayed here last night for our show at the Gallery. Such a beautiful, cool little hotel. We loved it. I've stayed in so many new - I guess you could call them hipster - hotels around the world and so many of them are over styled and impractical. But this place was so simple and intuitive. I loved the communal breakfast area and 'honour bar' , where guests serve themselves and write down what they have on a docket. The lounge area with board games was pretty cool too. Food is great!

Yelp
Phenomenal. The design and decor reminds me of the show Black Mirror. The staff is super friendly and completely accommodating. You can help yourself to beer in the bar. Their amenities are awesome too! The best shower ive had in a while with really yummy smelling shampoo, conditioner and body wash. They even give you two pairs of earplus. I'm legit bummed i may never spend a night in this hotel again as i probably wont find myself near perth again. Great stay!
