"The only zoo in the Bahamas started as a tropical garden and nature preserve in the 1950s. Over the years, Ardastra evolved, adding a conservation center for Caribbean flamingos and a small zoo containingbirds, reptiles, and mammals. The four-acre zoo is filled with the colors and fragrances of its tropical gardens, which feature paths through thetamarind, West Indies mahogany, and Indian tuliptrees, amid the abundant blooms of yellow elder, the national flower of the Bahamas, and frangipani. Visitors can see flamingos, iguanas, and lemurs, while enjoying interactive experiences like feeding the rainbow lorikeets and playing with the rabbits in the petting zoo."

Went in Nov 2025, this place is completely run down. There is limited amount of animals/birds, with the same bird in multiple cages. The cages were so poorly maintained, and the animals/birds looked very distressed. The path was not clearly marked, and we were done looking around in 30 mins. The 10-15 mins of Flamingo march was good, but other than getting the pictures with the flamingo, which my kids absolutely wanted to do, it was not worth the visit.

We went to avoid the chaos around the port during our cruise stop in Nassau. The taxi was $15 to get there for all four of us. It was $20 for the trip back. Well worth it. There were maybe a dozen other visitors while we were there. It was such a nice break from the crowds and noise. The young lady at the ticket booth was super nice. She even called a taxi for us. We had a nice ride through a residential neighborhood of Nassau that we wouldn't see otherwise.

Cannot rave about this place enough. They made my daughter experience so magical, she had the time of her life meeting all the animals, our guide was so knowledgeable and knew every animals name and even had a bond with them that you could tell came from great care. She went above and beyond to make my daughters experience unforgettable. My heart goes out to them, I know how difficult it is to get enough funding as a rescue and add to it their gift shop was damaged from the hurricane, yet they still all greeted us and gave us an amazing Halloween experience!

I went to the Bahamas in January of this year and am now trying to get caught up posting my pictures of various places with reviews. I would recommend anyone visiting Nassau to checkout this well-kept conservatory as a point of interest. I found it to be a very charming, tranquil garden, that is filled with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, exotic birds and other animals that I did not post pictures of. 😀 You have to go see for yourself!

Disappointing and Concerning Visit I left Ardastra Gardens feeling deeply troubled. Many of the animals did not appear well cared for. I just keep thinking about this poor parrot sitting in its own feces, with broken perches lying inside the enclosure. In that same habitat, the bird was screaming nonstop, and I noticed loose screws that could easily injure him. It was heartbreaking. Right next to him, another parrot was nearly attacking visitors and clearly seemed distressed by the presence of the Disney Cruise Line group. It really makes you wonder how Disney can support a facility where animals are left in their own excrement and exposed to such poor conditions. No one was there to speak with us or offer any information. It seems like the staff only focus on large tour groups, which must be their priority, but if you come on your own, you’re left completely on your own and very poorly welcomed. Also, the waiver at the entrance makes no sense. They ask you to fill it out, but no one checks the names or verifies anything anyway. Even the flamingo show, which could have been charming, felt chaotic. If you pay close attention, the zookeeper seemed unsure of what he was doing. He was chasing the birds around rather than guiding them calmly. This is not a conservation center. It does not reflect genuine care or respect for the animals. I cannot recommend supporting this place. Very disappointing.

Ardastra Gardens was fun. The flamingo show was interesting. This place is a good size but small enough to see everything without getting tired. I wish there was a guided tour.

This place has some cool animals but could use some others. Overall its okay if you’re just looking for something to do with family or kids. You'd have to look really closely to see the birds in my photos.

Do not go to this zoo "sanctuary". The animals are not taken care of at all, they look depressed and miserable, and the cages are rusted. The use the flamingos as a selling point but even they look stressed and the guy guiding them has no business doing so. There's hardly any employees and the few that we saw were rude. The raccoon made me so sad. It was all alone in a small cage trying to get out. The rabbits are also too big for their enclosure and I saw 2 big ones near the exit that were in a rusted cage as long as they are. Please do NOT go!!!
