Nice little place for Mexican food. We had the Wet Burrito and Chicken Enchiladas Verdes.

On our way out of Santa Barbara we wanted A really good burrito and stumbled on this spot. The portion and price was so good especially being from the OC. The hot sauce was well flavored and food full of flavor. How anyone can say this was bland doesn’t know what they are talking about. We will be here every time we are in the area.

Always hits the spot no matter what you are in the mood for. They have a huge selection of food, including vegetarian options, and no matter what you end up getting you will be full and happy. I ended up getting the Rajas burrito and I can barely finish 1/4 , I slept well....REALLLLLLYYYYY WELL. The only down side is parking, it's pretty packed Everytime I've come.

Breakfast burrito was generous but the flavor was just OK. Not bad at all, but there are better in town. I has a sausage burrito. The restaurant itself is vintage carniceria. Very authentic and comfortable. Not fancy. The staff was super friendly and the food came up quick on a busy Saturday morning.

Super Taco carne asada is my favorite Love the sour cream on it very good deal salsa bar in Isla Vista is awesome I loaded this one up with about five different salsas and some pico de gallo

I don't know how I missed trying this place for so long. It is sort of a "hidden gem," so maybe that's my excuse. It isn't often that a hidden gem keeps winning Best Of awards year after year, especially in a foodie town like Santa Barbara. Super Cucas has a long, well-earned, string of those Best Ofs. My fiance had beef enchiladas and loved them. I went with the shrimp super plate and it was simple but perfect. Rice, grilled fresh vegetables, and grilled shrimp. Absolutely delicious. The service was friendly, the prices are great, and you can even buy all of the ingredients to take home from their market and make your own creation. It's a winner.

Best burritos in town. My partner and I have been eating here for the last three years and always have a delicious experience. They have an entire vegan menu, including vegan cheese and vegan chorizo. So good, so affordable.

Super Cucas on the West Side is our go-to burrito/taco spot. We have been to two locations, but highly recommend the one on Micheltorena on the West Side. It may be out of the way for you and parking is often a zoo, but trust me, it's worth it. First, the location. This is a well-established family owned neighborhood carneceria, micro-grocery, and food counter. It's busy at lunch and at dinner when locals are wrapping up the work day, but it's also packed weekends and seemingly randomly. Even then, the line moves quickly and they're usually calling your number at the pickup window quickly too. The eating area is under a roof but somewhat open to the elements. It's basic, but on a beautiful day with a breeze, who cares? The food is outrageous. The menu is expansive and within the last 3-4 years they've rolled out a vegan menu. At odds with the idea of a taco shop with a vegan menu, the prices are the best in town and the portions are honestly overwhelming at times. As a vegetarian, I am mindful of three things in a taco/burrito spot: the beans, the rice, and the salsa. One adjustment for me at Cucas was the lack of refried beans - they serve whole beans from the olla. While in some situations I still prefer refried, here in town I will take the Cucas beans any day. Rice is basic. There's not an elaborate salsa bar, but three hot sauces/salsas available to go - a basic red (tasty, mostly mild), a smoky green (my fav), and habanera if you ask for it. The value here is off the charts for this crazy town. We feed a family of four for usually around $28-29 bucks. This does include one kid getting the kids hard tacos, but otherwise that's three adult-sized other meals, often with at least a few containers for the fridge. Top it off with chips and salsa (cheap), fries (surprisingly good), or horchata and you're ready for the beach, the Dodger game, or whatever you're up to. Go get it!

I love Super Cucas because the ingredients seem clean and fresh, and the portion sizes are good. But I am frustrated because the burritos consistently have TOO. MUCH. RICE. The picture I posted is from last night. I asked for "less rice, more beans", and this is what I got. I don't need tons of carbs inside my carb wrap, you know? Also, one time I ordered a shrimp burrito and said "beans only; no rice" and it literally had neither beans nor rice. I didn't realize until I was already 20 minutes away. $15+ down the drain. Anyhow... I love this place. It's an institution. But I feel frustrated right now. Too much rice! lol

In this day and age there's no reason for any establishment to. Look and feel this dirty. Zero. Especially in the finest city in California, I ordered the protein. Breakfast Burrito. Eggs, Tri-tip, cheese, Bell pepper, zucchini, mushrooms and potato's. The service was fine. Quick. I sat down at the pleasant outside patio tables to enjoy a large hot burrito. Every bite of "tri Tip was chewy grisly and flavorless. Don't advertise tri-tip and serve low quality skirt steak. Secondly, in all my years in Southern California I've never had salsa verde with the consistency of pesto and with less flavor. The veggies were almost raw. And hard to chew also. I'm wondering what I should have ordered instead that has won them so many awards. Because it's not this.

Family favorite for years... don't live in SB anymore but every time we visit my parents we go to Cucas... wish it were a chain so I'd have one up in Washington, but SO glad they're NOT a chain, too. Glad they survived Covid and are still around and busy as ever.

Vegan breakfast burrito is so good! They put celery in it. Which is strange. It's still great to have a vegan breakfast option that's not oats!

Used to be a regular customer but ever so recently I've gotten terrible food service with each visit I made. This is not the first time it's been more than a once, When it comes to eating have found abnormal stuff in my burritos! from small sticks/stems in my bites poking the inside of my mouth to even both types of hair (you know what i mean) ‼ not even including the undercooked rice this place is inedible and pathetic. Location does not deserve any of those awards put up on their wall and should be condemned.

Excellent service and a fantastic burrito. I had a breakfast burrito and it could easily feed 2 people. It was stuffed with egg, potatoes, sausage and cheese. Highly recommend

Came for a late dinner around 9pm. Most restaurants were already closed, but this place was still open and quite lively. I got the shrimp quesadilla for ~$13 and it was massive and came with quite a lot of shrimp and grilled fajita veggies. The tortilla was also slightly crispy and tasted quite good.

Few things the owner was rude went up front to see menu I was not cutting in line . But when I place my order they let ppl cut in line in front of me . Took 15 minutes to make a hamburger. Ppl in back of me got thier order first ! The owner said my payment didn't go through but it did he charged me twice . This was the spot back in the day. So if u want rude service and double charge food and the hamburger wad disgusting go too super cuca's and the mesa one just ad bad !!

Unlike my last review of the same order minus the sour cream... Chicken rolled tacos, rice and beans. The rolled tacos were full of chicken. The most meat I have ever gotten in a rolled taco. The flavor was bland. The guacamole was bland. The rice was tomatoey and the beans were salty. All of it would have been better eaten there, but I had to get it to go, which made the tacos soggy this time. The beans and rice also spilled between there and here so they absorbed the liquid from the beans too. Apparently the burritos are as big as your forearm and are delicious.

Called over the phone to pick up food, I ordered a burrito with no onions and a side of rice. After I ordered the lady rudely said "is that it or you want something else" I said no and she hung up on me without asking for my name. When I got there I said I had called to pick up and they asked me the name, I said the lady didn't ask for my name on the phone. She rolled her eyes and said "well what did you order then" and I told her. She gave me a bag and I paid and left. When I got home I received a burrito with onions even though I asked for no onions, and a side of fries instead of rice!!

Love this place, I also love that I can come back 10 years later and the quality and selection hasn't changed much. They're a SB institution for a reason. I highly recommend the 3 tacos plate!

Came by for SB burrito week and stuck to their basic carne asada burrito. I hate writing reviews off just one item I've tried after some time, but I'm personally no major fan of Super Cucas each time I've visited. I've gone to all 3 locations at least once and the IV one many - but their food is just mid. It does the job to satisfy the Mexican food craving but it's not really that great... This burrito had mushy and flavorless rice, carne asada with no char and tasted like it boiled in its own juices - but also had no flavor in the marinade, and beans just normal beans. Salsas provided we're just okay. I don't think they have the best burrito in town but you will be full as it was very hefty. So many other spots are much more flavorful imo! And I've done my own in making some asada or getting some from the Santa Cruz market and grilling that up to know what's good, along with venturing in LA and SD for Mexican cuisine. I'm a bit disappointed but still finished it and enjoyed a nice $7 deal. Maybe it's just a one off but I think I'll stick to the other local spots in town! Maybe their plates and tortas might be better but I'm not sure I'll return with other spots to support. Regardless, they do have a big following and is a local business that's been here long enough to try out.. maybe you'll have a different experience in your next visit.

Other than the hassle of getting my car oriented correctly to park at the restaurant, everything was great. I had been craving a good burrito and knew they wouldn't let me down. Service was friendly and fast. I took my chili relleno burrito to go and it was still delicious when I arrived home. I had a hard time not eating it while I drove but it was so large it would have been a safety issue. Also, for my vegan friends, I was thrilled to see the extensive vegan offerings.

Was craving a cheesy carne asada quesadilla. All o got was a tortilla full of meat and no cheese?? The meat wasn't even distributed through the tortilla. All of it was lumped to one side. Disappointed.

I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered a carne asada burrito to go. It's a super cute small market and restaurant with patio area. Service was fantastic - everyone was so friendly and I liked how they don't nickel and dime for extra salsa. The burrito was large and in charge and filled with deliciousness. The green salsa, which is the "milder" one does have a little bite. The single bathroom in the back is gross. Use the bathroom or hold it. I will be back for another burrito or something else. Everything looked delicious!

No line so gave it a whirl. Week of Christmas. Lots of bodies and business behind the counter. I waited a half hour for two items. Two. One mentioned spicy and it was mouth on fire spicy. Glad I tried it second. Just a huge disappointment. Won't be going back. You can only ride the coat tails of Julia Child for so long.

Worst service in any Mexican restaurant the women who give's out the food knows nothing about customer service. Also the fact they serve vegan food but they dont tell the cooks to keep MEAT away from the vegan food is crazy why the fuck even offer vegan food if u can't keep regular meat away from a vegan burrito is crazy to me. Even after we were given our food the man who had to give us our food didn't apologize for his rude ass employee!! Sucks that the girl who charged us was nice enough but not everyone is a decent worker.

Excellent Milanesa plate. Portions are good. Quality is good. A great find during my business trip to Goleta.

Been coming here for a while now and the breakfast burritos are top notch and always fill me up. Ordered at the counter quickly and the food came out in under 10 minutes. Bacon and sausage breakfast burrito is my go to item here. This location has lots of outdoor seating which is perfect for Santa Barbara. I will definitely come back in the future.

Came here for dinner with a friend. The burrito is HUGE got the pastor and the veggie burrito The veggie burrito came with sour cream - that's not my fave but it was tasty The pastor was flavored nicely kinda Smokey. Salsa also has a more Smokey flavor. But very tasty. Good food for an affordable price. Overall not my favorite but not the worst.

Tasty vegan burritos! I have tried the #1 Breakfast burrito and the #4 soy pastor burrito and both were great. Large and very filling, great value for only $9. Great salsa bar too.

Great service replaced our old order and explained how I should order next time. Had an issue but it was resolved immediately.

It doesn't get more authentic than Super Cuca's on the Westside. The sign outside said it was established in 1991. I love that everyone inside was speaking Spanish. There was a small grocery and meat department inside. I went to get a "Week Burrito" which was $7 during Burrito Week. I chose pollo (chicken) as my meat, along with rice, beans, onions, and cilantro with salsa verde on the side. Yummy! The staff were friendly (even though I was obviously a gringo) and I ate outside on their pleasant patio. I'll be back!

Drove 2 hours and ordered 5 burritos and apparently that's incredibly inconvenient?? The girls that worked the register and window were SO RUDE!! Nobody wants to be greeted with attitude. When I got my food the woman at the window was annoyed when I asked her to identify the burritos, as they were for myself and others... she rolled her eyes and said they were marked. I took them out to separate and they weren't marked! She said, "Seriously!" I told her that I was sorry but it was for others... I didn't want to give people the wrong order. She told me to just LOOK at them?! Food is so good but damn it with the poor customer service! There are plenty of delicious Mexican food in Santa Barbara, go where your business is APPRECIATED!!

They say in life, breakups don't call for many words... With that said. I don't see me marrying the idea of making this restaurant A staple in my diet.. I came here on a Saturday night, Hungry. It was all due to burrito week in Santa Barbara. So I thought I would give them a try. I went with the featured burrito. The burrito was big. Enough for two Nothing that screams "oh my" Or, wow. It was just a burrito Basic. Though a bit dry. The wrap getting unwrapped It's like the burrito was fighting with me ( I will have you know I won the battle) The atmosphere was cool, quiet, and a bit reflective They weren't busy. Customer service was standard. Nothing below or over the top So what's my next plan of action? I will try two more items from them My Situation could have been a complete fluke Stay tuned....

Vegan burrito #6 is incredible!! They'll cut it in half and it's so huge it's enough for two. Beans, rice, potatoes, zucchini, carrots, and the best guacamole!! Fantastic only $10.50!! We will back again and again.

Best breakfast burritos, best horchata, huge portions. So delicious!! A few locations in town, all great.

Decades ago, we used to live within walking distance and did Cuca's takeout at least once a week. Now that we live further away, 25 years later we are still going there whenever we have a burrito hankering - even though there are lots of places much closer to our house. Soft tortilla, excellent grilled veggies, not too much of any one thing inside. Best.Burrito.Ever. That's all you need to know!

Absolutely phenomenal food and awesome service! The staff was kind, helpful, and quick. As far as food goes I only had burritos, but my husband and I ate here two days in a row if that says enough for you. All the other customers were very relaxed. It was a nice family atmosphere, and it's outdoors so it seems dogs are allowed. :)

We stopped here for dinner during a day trip in Santa Barbara. Excellent choice! The portions are huge and ended up making three meals for me out of one burrito. I ordered the wet shrimp burrito. It tasted fresh and had plenty of shrimp. Lots of veggies and tasted healthy. They are def not stingy w their shrimp. We also got one of their vegan burritos and that was great too. They have a nice selection of vegan options. Both burritos were giant and tasted great. They came with some hot sauces on the side which also tasted great. While waiting for the food, we ended up buying 2 Sinaloa hot sauces and a chamoy sauce. The hot sauces are EXCELLENT. I will def buy more in the future either there or online. Haven't opened the chamoy yet, but it's a really good size bottle. I would love to come back here again when I am in town.

A beloved local favorite, serving one of the best breakfast burritos in town! But the rest of the menu is one that shouldn't be overlooked. The Isla Vista location was my go-to as a student, and this one is just as great. Location-wise, it's a bit offbeat; the area is mostly residential and away from State Street. Parking can be a hassle due to the limited spots. Once inside, you will find a small market on the left with shelves of canned goods, fresh produce, and other food items. The counter to order will be on the right. Seating is outside, with a nice covered patio and heaters when the temperature goes down. Everything is relatively clean and everyone is kind and helpful when you need something. Their breakfast burrito selection is extensive, with more than a dozen different combinations to choose from. For what you get, the price is pretty good. There's also a vegetable burrito with Grilled onions, bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, potatoes, and salsa (also scrambled eggs and cheese by the way). I haven't tried many of the other menu items, but they offer tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and enchiladas as well. Everyone flocks to Freeb!rds for nachos, but I'd rather order from Super Cuca's. It's a couple dollars cheaper, you have slightly more options for meat, and they don't charge you $2.75 extra for guac. Each plate comes with your typical mix of Pico de Gallo, beans, cheese, and cream. Portions are highly shareable, and they also have an inexpensive nachos no meat plate. Have yet to try the location on the Mesa!

In town visiting family and was delighted to be here for "Burrito Week". After reading the Independent we decided to go to Super Cucas because of their write up. Ordered three of the burritos they offered for the special week: pastor, pollo, and asada. Word to the wise...specify that it's the Burrito Week Special when you order because we were charged the full price. I asked them about it and they just said that I had to state that the burritos were the special price when I placed the order. My error, I guess. Burritos were ample and filling. I expected the pastor to be juicy and flavorful but it was short of my expectations. Pollo and asada burritos were okay...but not exceptional. Overall we probably won't visit Super Cucas the next time we're in town.

Super good customer service, and they gave me a free burrito because they were closing and I was on a budget. First visit to Cucas was amazing. Will definitely be back again soon. Thanks again.

Great food. Been coming for years and when I want to have a solid burrito here is where I go.

This is an excellent place to get seriously authentic Mexican food, in large portions. There are at least two locations. I was surprised to see the many vegetarian and even vegan options on the menu. The burrito I chose was HUGE. There are several patios where you can dine. Keep in mind this isn't a typical sit-down restaurant. It's more of a convenience store where you can order at the counter and then eat there, or take the food home. This was similar to a Mexican fast-food joint, but with much more of a family-owned, feel. The staff obviously take pride in what they do. Parking is a bit limited at the location we chose, so it's not really a place to linger. We took the food to one of Santa Barbara's many parks instead. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for fast-casual, authentic Mexican takeout in SB.

Better than the one in IV (and that one isn't even bad). Hearty meal after a bouldering session. I had the Mar y Tierra plate, which was both heavy and balanced at the same time. The size is enough for two lunches if you portion it.

They have a dedicated vegan menu with vegan soy beef and vegan al pastor. I tried the vegan nachos with soy beef and the #2 vegan burrito with al pastor. It comes with zuccini & breakfast potatoes in it which were so good! The nachos were amazing! Even my non-vegan husband loved them! Their beans are delicious. My husband ordered 2 carne asada tacos with chips & guac on the side. The tacos came with more meat than the tacos could even hold. The guacamole amount is like a side order amount. That's the only thing we'd say to pass on. The seating is indoor/outdoor so if it's cold be prepared but it was fine for us on a February evening with just a light sweater. Overall, this place is amazing! We'll definitely come back when we're in the area.

I went to super cucas on 3/25/23. I loved it so much I am going to go back again quite soon. I ordered the regular beef burrito and the flavours just popped. From the front it looks like a hole in the wall store but is a behind the walls they have some of the best burritos I have ever had. I love genuine Mexican food (note: never been to Mexico but I feel this is pretty similar or exact) not el pollo loco garbage. The food also took around three minutes for it to come and I loved the speed (it not even being fast food). I have attached a photo of the wet burrito my friend got. He was actually the one that recommended it to me (how did I not know about it sooner)!?

This place is still my favorite go to Mexican food place. I usually don't know what their specials are, but if you're indecisive .. go with the specials! Their burritos are filling ( will admit lots of carbs- beans and rice) but also tasty for the price

I love this place. Been gone from Santa Barbara for 10 years but being back for a visit it was a must have for their carnitas quesadilla and their shrimp tacos. Lots of choices for Mexican food in this town but this place is a favorite.

Delicious tortas and burritos. There are a couple of tables outside with umbrellas for shade. This is the type of place that doesn't look look all that great, but the food is very good (at least the tortas and burritos are).

This hidden gem is centrally located in the heart of the west side, it serves as both a mini-grocery store and restaurant for the local community of San Andres. The restaurant is always busy helping customers with all their purchases including items right off the shelf. The store sells a variety of Hispanic items along with a meat counter. The adjacent patio offers plenty of seating for hungry customers awaiting their orders. The parking lot can be a chaotic at times, but with a little patience you will find a spot. The key is to wait and shuffle with everyone. To be honest I only get the burritos. The California is my favorite, I usually get it with Al Pastor or Asada - equally delicious. The breakfast burritos are also delicious. If you arrive early enough, they usually have coffee ready as well. Santa Barbara has very limited breakfast choices. State Street normally doesn't operate until about 10 am and then closes up around 8-9pm. Generally speaking, the best food in town will be will located outside of that area and I highly recommend stopping by this place next time you're looking for a quick bite.

Hungry? Go to Cucas! Massive burritos that absolutely SLAP morning, noon or night! Never bought anything else, but I never have room in my stomach. I go here 100% of the time I visit Santa Barbara
