Church of Saint Anthony of the German

Took my breath away. I found this church on google while looking for unusual attractions in Madrid. It is a hidden gem. They call it ‘Sistine Chapel of Madrid’ for a reason. I visited on a Wednesday early afternoon (around 1pm). Hardly any people. It’s not obvious from outside, no sign of a church. I’m guessing people just pass it. There are also some tombs underneath the church that allow visitors as well (included in the €5 fee).

A hidden gem a short walking distance from Gran Via! A small ' donation' provides a personal audio recording device for you to learn about the 'frescos' as well as the church dating back to the XVII century. It takes about 20- minutes if you want to hear all the details. Highly recommended!

The Iglesia de San Antonio de los Alemanes in Madrid is a delightful spot for a short visit, taking about 30 minutes to an hour with the audioguide. Though the entrance fee of 5 euros might seem steep to some given the church's small size, it offers a charming and enriching experience. I read somewhere that this is currently Madrid's best kept secret, well it might not be for much longer. This is an assault on the senses, I'm tempted not to post any photos to not ruin the surprise for you. 5 euros entry each and it includes an audio guide - come on! The building is VERY plain on the outside and doesn't even look that old, tucked down a side street. Do check opening times first, maybe even make this the first religious establishment you visit. Just sit in quiet contemplation and take it all in.

Absolutely gorgeous; small but worth the walk. Not very touristy and cover includes another nearby church.

This is truly a hidden gem in Madrid. The artwork on the walls and ceiling is breathtaking. The overall vibe inside is quiet and B respectful. Even if all you need is a place mid-sightseeing where you can decompress and in rest your feet in quiet, it’s worth the visit.

San Antonio de los Alemanes was on my list and the hotel my partner and I were staying, it was quite close to this as Well. Plus it was on my check list. So it didn't take us long, we were already on our way to this place. But the first time when we were here, the church was closed that day. So we checked the schedule and came back here the second time about 12:00. Finally, this time is opened. It was 2 euro for the admission free. It might only required to the tourist. It wasn't much anyway. Right after I walked in, I just saw this endless painting all over the wall inside. It wasn't much decoration or instruments inside the chruch. It was quite interesting, I also saw a painter, who was painting the paintings on the wall insde. We were there for awhile, Just looking and admiring the amazing works on wall. The church isn't so big, actually. But the painting does made it more interesting. It got Baroque style and it was designed by Pedro Sánchez. As it name already tell, this place is dedicated to St Antony of Padua. I think this sure is one of the unique places I have visited so far. It isn't as popular as other city attractions in Madrid. But it is worth to visit.
