Very pretty restaurant with great service staff. The food is pretty good but be prepared to splurge a little. Found out about this cafe through multiple recommendations only and Google Maps. The veal schnitzel “the legend” was the best item we had followed by the Viennese sausage. The schnitzel was well battered and didn’t taste too oily. The Viennese sausages were delicious with the variety of mustard that they had. The only thing that needs work for that dish is probably the presentation of the dish. The pasta was decent but I wouldn’t return for it. The dessert was done well and I can see why so many people ordered them. The pistachio chocolate cake was not sweet and the landtmann cake was delicious! Service staff was excellent and the restaurant is very pretty! I really love the attention to detail and how friendly the staff was. Would recommend to visit at least once.

My 1 Jan lunch. Came here craving proper Austrian comfort food and this really hit the spot. The schnitzel was huge, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and not oily at all. Potatoes were simple but done right, and the cranberry sauce tied everything together nicely. Loved that they served proper sides instead of just dumping everything on one plate. The soup was rich and warming, perfect for the cold weather, and the pasta was surprisingly good too. Portions are generous, flavours are honest and comforting. Honestly, this kind of meal is hard to find back in Singapore. Solid place to sit down, eat well, and just enjoy the moment without rushing. Interior felt old rich, good vibes. Love it!!! They had a queue outside when we came so it’s best to reserve in advanced!

Yesterday I visited Café Landtmann in Vienna and would love to share my sincere appreciation. We were served by Herr Denis, and it was truly one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had there. I live in Vienna and have been to Landtmann many times. I’ve always known it as a beautiful, historic café with a special charm. But yesterday, for the first time, I was genuinely impressed. Herr Denis created an incredible atmosphere — he was exceptionally attentive, involved, and genuinely committed to making sure every guest felt delighted. He shared the history of the café, how it was founded, who owns it today, which dishes are must-tries, and who typically visits this iconic place. It wasn’t just service — it felt like being introduced to the soul of the café. The interior itself is stunning: antique sofas, elegant guests, and the timeless ambience of old Vienna. But it’s the people who truly make a place special. And yesterday, Herr Denis proved that with his knowledge, warmth, and the way he brought the story of the café to life. A huge thank you to Café Landtmann for delighting guests for so many years — and for having people like Herr Denis on your team, who make this legendary place feel even more extraordinary. It was a truly unforgettable visit.

During our visit to the iconic Café Landtmann in Vienna, we ordered the Legendary Wiener Schnitzel, and it truly lived up to its name. The schnitzel was perfectly prepared—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and full of flavor. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and professional, making us feel very welcome. The interior of the café is elegant and traditional, with a timeless Viennese charm that reflects the rich history of the place. Café Landtmann offers not only excellent food, but also an authentic and memorable Viennese café experience.

A very nice coffee place in Vienna with a cozy atmosphere and a tasty, well-prepared menu. Everything we tried was delicious and nicely presented. The only downside is that the portions are quite small, especially for the price. Still, a great spot for good coffee and quality flavors if you don’t mind lighter servings.

The food was tasty as usual, been there a few times. However, service is a bit too rushed, we literally sat down and were asked what we want. Anyway, what shocked me the most was the cleanliness of my coffee spoon - it was a bit disgusting with all leftover prints of fingers. Plus the coffee mugs were super overused. I’d suggest they get changed and spoons are perfectly polished.

Found this beautiful spot in the heart of the city. Noticed that people were mostly there for the drinks and desserts but we chose to have lunch here. The food was really delicious and loved the ambience. You could see the beautiful sky through the glass ceiling. The best dish was the sacher torte for me.

Our first meal in Vienna and probably my favorite! We sat on the outdoor patio - no reservation needed, just choose an open table! The saffron risotto was delicious. We shared a seasonal strawberry blossom for dessert. It was bigger than the menu picture and capped off our meal perfectly! Located far enough off the street that the traffic noise wasn't a distraction. I'd definitely return.

This was a fine place for dinner. We wanted to sit inside but nobody was there and we sat in the air conditioned patio area. Much less charming. Wienerschnitzel with parsley potato was quite good, the salad was overdressed. Beef soup was too salty. The sausage platter was delicious. I would not order the ordinary salmon plate again. Overall, this was fine to try and come to once--I would recommend sitting in the more charming and historical indoor space--but if given the choice to try another cafe versus coming back, I would try a new one.

Even though this cafe is touristy, it is absolutely wonderful for service, selection, presentation and food quality. Beautifully presented and the flavors are wonderful.

Great food and service. Staff were very friendly and spoke great English (I was American tourist). Spent a few hours here reading with my tea and cake. Before which I'd had a nice soup and venison ragout. Location right across the street from the beautiful Rathaus.

Sigmund Freud's local coffee shop. Café Landtmann in Vienna is such a great spot across from City Hall. My visit was perfect because of sweet and attentive server. The patio is lively. Inside, go see the beautiful wood carved panels. Perfect spot to do a little work and part of my cafe hop in Vienna. One espresso for me please!

Arrived late after the kitchen was closed. Server could not have been more welcoming. Chose to sit inside. Dining room is understated old world elegance. Pastries were delicious. Highly recommend.

Black tie service for breakfast, oh yeah. Absolutely some of the best coffee, yep, and delicious food. That is the recipe for a great place to go, and this cafe has it down pat. Service is excellent and friendly. The coffee is outstanding and the smoked salmon is delicately done and delicious. The avocado and egg was done differently than I would have imagined, but the egg was perfect. Everyone around me had beautiful food, I kept wanting more, but I settled with a second kaffe. So good.

I went for the historical value. Drinks are decent. Food is below par and more expensive than others well-known restaurants. Bakery items were average. Staff was ok. This whole place was just ok. The main dining room is very nice though - make a reservation to sit there for a better experience.

Good selection of cakes and coffee drinks. We visited Café Landtmann late on a Monday morning, and it was busy but there were tables available on their expansive patio. I ordered an espresso and a Sacher torte. The espresso was on par with others I have tried. The Sacher Torte was served with a generous portion of whipped cream and tasted exquisite. Overall, I would recommend Café Landtmann for cake and coffee.

Class all the way! The warm desserts are the best choice for "dolce". The gulashesuppe was very nicely done. All the food was beautifully presented. Best to make a booking.

Cafe Landtmann is a Viennese coffee house established in 1873. It is located across the street from Rathausplatz. When I arrived at lunch time they were completely packed for outdoor seating and had a small line of people for sitting outdoors. Fortunately they had plenty of seating indoors. The inside of this place is fancy and the service was excellent as well. The lunch menu had very few items that looked appealing and so I settled on a salad with chicken. Salad with Chicken (23 euros) - The salad consisted of a layer of potatoes topped with some greens and 3 pieces of chicken tenders lightly battered. It wasn't exactly the healthy option I was seeking, nor did I see any healthy options on the menu. Taste wise everything was ok. The menu was extremely limited in items for lunch. Water (7.50 euros for a 1 liter bottle) - This costs less than 1 euro at the grocery store. I don't know how they can justify this pricing. Overall the food was just ok. The décor and service were great. I made a huge mistake by not reading my YELP buddy Sam B.'s review as her experience wasn't that great either here. I know better next time. :P

Lucky lucky. Was dying after no lunch and fighting through the hordes at the Egyptian exhibit in the museum of Fine Arts. No zombies, just too many humans. Barely 5 minutes single me scored a nice seat outside. Sure, it was nippy but cozy when the sun finally came out. Since Cafe Landtmann supplies other cafes with treats, I thought better check it out here. The waiter was speedy and had my melange ( flat white), water, Sacher torte and take-away Mozart torte all ready. The sacher torte was completely different that I had imagined it!. Maybe it's Vienna style???. The ones I usually have from Japanese-french patissiers and even in Budapest were dense, with darker chocolate layers and ganache and just the tantalising hint of the marmalade like layer. This torte was delicious but drier, fluffier, with milk chocolate and a slightly thicker marmalade like layering. I liked it but my dream was incongruent with the reality. Sadly, no time to checkout out cafe Sacher ( l'original) to compare. It's great service, great ambience, good coffee, cheap ( 2 desserts and a coffee only 20 euros). Would love to come back for proper eats and work my way through ALL THE TORTES

Best schnitzel and strudel in town. Not to be missed! We come when we are in town, even the locals frequent!

A historic Viennese cafe should be on everyone's to-do list when in Vienna. Cafe Landtmann was charming yet refined and I felt as though I was transported back into time. Not often do you still see such elegantly dressed staff and wooden detailing in a restaurant. We came here for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and menu. I almost never order scrambled eggs because they often come out dry or too scrambled, but this was a rare exception. I was delighted to see eggs that looked (and tasted) close to perfection. They were bright yellow, slightly runny and came with a side of chives. I devoured every bite. My boyfriend and I split a Viennese croissant and topped it with apricot jam, which turned out to be the perfect combination. I washed it all down with a cappuccino: standard, but still hit the spot. Though the restaurant was busy, you could tell the staff cared more about the experiences of the guests than turning tables. We didn't feel rushed and were able to soak up all of the history and moments together. I loved this place and it left a lasting impression on me.

We asked our guide for recommendations for lunch. She praised Café Landtmann as authentic with less lines. This place lived up to her hype. After checking our coats we were seated at a cozy booth for 2. The waiters in black suits and ties were attentive to our needs and wants. My wife got the Weiner Melange to drink and I ordered the Ottakringer. Both were very good. I had the Weiner schnitzel with the potato salad. This was one of the best schnitzel I have ever had. The portion was large covering the entire plate and was served with a cranberry compote. The potato salad was tasty as well. My wife had the sweet potato gnocchi which was served with a ragu. This was flavorful and the sauce was fresh. For dessert we had the Kaiserschmarrn. This came with an apple and a berry compote. This was delightful and a perfect end to our meal. I would highly recommend eating here for either a full meal or dessert. You won't be disappointed.

One of the best cafes in Vienna! They have a coat check-in right when you enter the establishment which is great for checking in your heavy winter coat. I'm glad we were able to walk in and get a table for two right away. We ordered the beef goulash, wiener schnitzel, a Viennese coffee, chamomile tea, and a chocolate mousse torte for dessert. Everything from the food to the service was spectacular and our server was very friendly. Also, it's walking distance to one one of the many christmas markets in Vienna, if you happen to be visiting during late November or the December months. Highly recommend this cafe and trying one of their many delicious tortes, apfelstrudels, or any items from their bakery display! Looking forward to traveling back to Vienna, Austria and coming back to this cafe.

5 star performance from the team here. Got us in without a reservation early morning (but big groups were turned away, so get that reservation if you are rolling deep). Quick and great service. The eggs Benedict was excellent if you're looking for something bigger than the usual pastry suspects. Great ambiance on the patio as well, enclosed and warm so you can sit out there even when it snows.

Old school Viennese coffee shop. Popular with local political figures and tourists. Service can be both attentive and non existent. Selection of cakes quite nice.

Good food had beef tartare ok but weiner schnitzel was delicious good service, great ambience outdoor cafe

Beautiful in the inside but the sweets and drinks are average. We got the standard Austrian cappuccino and definitely had better at every other cafe we went to. For sweets we got the petits four which are three small originals, all we're not good - only one bite of each. We got cheese strudel with vanilla cream after since the first dessert wasn't good and the strudel was better but still cannot recommend it. Service was also lengthy and requires you to contort your arms in multiple ways while you pray the servers will notice your acrobatic act.

When visiting Vienna, there were a few things I was told I had to do, including going to the opera and going to an actual coffeehouse (picture a brunch or hotel restaurant, and not your typical local Starbucks coffee shop). Cafe Landtmann is one such famous coffeehouse in Vienna. Located on The Ring, Cafe Landtmann is a beautiful and spacious "coffeehouse." I sat inside and ordered the cheese strudel with vanilla sauce (7.20E) and a chai tea latte (5.90E). I was debating between one of the many cake slice options and the strudel, but opted for the strudel since it seems to be a Vienna specialty, as I've seen it being sold everywhere throughout the city. My total was 13.10 Euros plus tip. The chai tea latte was definitely not worth the high price tag of 5.90 euros, or about $6.50, as I've definitely had better ones stateside. Even the Starbucks version is better than the chai latte I had here. The cheese strudel was ok and I'm glad I finally tried it to see for myself what all the hype is about, but I would not want to get it again. Service was great though.

A visit to Cafe Landtmann is a must if you are in Vienna. The chocolate cake and coffee is a wonderful treat after exploring old Vienna. The service is welcoming and efficient. The ambiance is that of old vieanna.

Food was decent (got the beef goulash soup which was good, friends were split on the sausage, and another friend liked the yogurt but it's more of a liquid consistency so it depends on your taste) but I think the service was a bit haughty ): they seemed pretty irritated with us even when we had just gotten in and sat down.

Had the sacher torte, malange coffee and goulash soup. This is the cafe that sigmund freud would frequent. Pretty large inside, was able to get seated within 5 minutes. This cafe is right across the street from the Vienna christmas market. They had a whole assortment of other desserts and coffees. We came here instead of the Sacher cafe because the wait at that famous cafe was too long. This place was very pleasant :)

We had a good experience here. Quite the tourist spot. It was raining and there was not a long line. We tried the Mozart coffee. It was tasty and I would have it again. The apple strudel is supposed to be the best. First, I am not a fan of raisins, but they were fairly cooked down so they were a non issue. We got ours with the vanilla cream sauce. We could have done without that as it was sweet enough. In the states apple strudel has a bit more firmness of crunch that lacked in this one. It could be me, but I was not a fan.

Wow is the word! Visiting Vienna from California, went to 2 locations and loved the food, service and the vintage charm ambiance! Desserts were delicious, we tried multiple and all were great !

Was told it is the most famous coffee house in Vienna. Supposedly this is where important people meet for informal meetings. Super formal but you don't have to dress up. The waiters are all in tuxedos. Food was solid. Not quite 5 stars but pretty good 4.5. The ambiance and experience push it up to a 5. Definitely worth a visit if in Vienna and want to see a coffee house. Eggs Benedict with salmon was good. Scrambled eggs with salmon was also good. Brioche and French croissant were again very good but not quite 5 star. Melange coffee and mokka (espresso not a mocha) were good but I don't feel qualified to give a nuanced opinion.

One of the joys of traveling is good food & exquisite dining at a decent cost. In a city known for it's classic nature nothing is surprising about the service received here. My traveling companion received recommendations from a friend that previously spent time in Vienna regarding this restaurant. Let's say the rich warmth found in the wood tones were an added bonus to the stellar service. When in Vienna schnitzel is a must. I ordered the chicken schnitzel that was served with soup, a salad, and potatoes. The size of the schnitzel itself was huge. The soup served was a vegetable soup. The broth was savory & the vegetables were plentiful! The salad served had a raspberry vinaigrette. The salad was crisp and refreshing. The potatoes served with snitchzel were warm & buttery. The meal and ambiance were amazing! Do yourself a favor, if in Vienna, make reservations and get a warm hearty meal here.

Came here on my last morning in Vienna, as this cafe had been recommended to me by a few friends who had been in the city. It was extremely hot outside, but they had light misters going so it was a perfect setting. I came in unsure what to get, and the waiter was SO helpful. I told him it was my last day in Vienna, and he told me the apple strudel was their specialty, and he was not lying. That was the best strudel ive had in my entire life. I also got a vienesse coffee with it. Great decision. The waiter told me that if I should also try these bacon wrapped sauasages that they have, as it is his favorite thing on the menu. I pulled the trigger on those and got a house beer. The Sausages were cooked to perfection, and came with a side of fries. Great food and great service. Highly recommend.

If for no other reason, come for the beautiful interior and the professional service. It was fun just watching the waiters who were very proper and professional. The coffee was also VERY delicious, but I like strong coffee. I had an espresso with whipped cream, which was in fact real whipped cream not something sweetened and from a can. It was amazing. Our table shared a chocolate tort dessert. It was very tasty but nothing that you would not find in a high quality sweets store. It's not cheap but again, go for the experience.

Gayle and I enjoyed a nice evening walk to reach Cafe Landtmann for Dinner. As I recall, we had chosen another place to dine, but they were closed for a private function. However, the host there was nice enough to recommend that we try Cafe Landtmann. It's on the Ring Road, near the Burg Theater, and apparently was historically frequented by the likes of Sigmund Freud. Was it Freud that once said that sometimes a sausage is just a sausage? In our case, our delicious meal was the real deal, and there were no Mommy issues with the excellent service we received at this classic cafe-restuarant. We dined indoors, but there is a shaded terrace available. Cafe Landtmann throws off a nice casual elegance, yet well priced.

Great strudel and melange! Don't be intimidated by the line outside, it goes fast. The service is excellent and the ambience is awesome. I would highly recommend. The only complaint is the apfel strudel was served cold and it would be delicious if served warm!

Came at 4pm on a Thursday and luckily only had to wait 10 minutes for a party of three. The coffee and drinks anre pricey (~€6) and we opted for the mixed sausage starter and the fried chicken main. The food was better than I expected. Even the sausage, which were served somewhat unappetizingly in a bowl of water, were flavorful. For dessert, we had the banana cake and kaiserschmarrn. Cake was a great balance of chocolate and fruit without being too sweet. The kaiserschmarrn was a bit disappointing after an amazingly fluffy one I had in Cesky Kumlov. The one here was a bit dry and too dense and oily. Vibe wise, it's all tourists, so you don't quite get the classic fancy Viennese cafe atmosphere that it's trying to showcase. Not sure if it's worth waiting for more than 30 minutes for, but if you see a short queue, check it out!

I wanted to meet my old Viennese friend Otto and he decided on this traditional Austrian coffee place ; he had ordered a cup of coffee and when we came we had two glasses of Prosecco and an apple tart (apfelstrudel). Not only was the apple tart not warmed but the dough fell apart like a wall of bad bricks but the bad mood came when we ordered two glasses of tap water. We were told that we would be charged about €1.5 per glass or $3.5 for two glasses of tapwater which is completely obnoxious . The manager told us that we could get a glass of water with a glass of wine but we informed him that Prosecco is actually fermented wine !!! Staring in our eyes , he got us two glasses of free simple tapwater glasses and we paid for a cup of coffee , two small glasses of pretty average prosecco and an apletart about $30 The whole experience was unpleasant and there are many better places in Vienna !

A friendly stop for a late lunch While exploring the city as tourists we came across Café Landtmann. Without really knowing what a nice popular place it is, we stopped in. It was approaching dinnertime. We found a polite and well-dressed staff, but they were also nice and approachable. We learned the restaurant is quite busy during the season, often with a waiting line. For our visit yesterday we were able to walk right in. In order to try to hold down the cost on a rather expensive day for us, I ordered their Viennese Chicken. It was quite good, the chicken breaded and moist. The preparation was similar to wiener schnitzel. I liked my food but also made a note that for the rest of my visit to Vienna I should expand my horizons on food selection. Note that in the photo it shows one piece of chicken on my plate. There were two other pieces in a separate container, plenty of food.

Not bad! A little pricey though (as is any tourist spot). Make a reservation! We came during a crowded lunch hour and saw many groups turned away because the restaurant was full. We were seated in the traditional dining area indoors. Setting: Nice, traditional Viennese cafe, beautifully decorated. Food: we ordered a Field Herb Salad, Salmon Filet and Wiener Schnitzel Veal Cutlet. The Field Herb Salad was decent, plenty of flavor and good quality prosciutto. The Salmon Filet tasted great, very creamy asparagus risotto (tasty, but rich/heavy). Not impressed by the veal schnitzel, not much meat in it and was mostly just fried breading. When we cut the schnitzel, the outer breading actually peeled off completely. Not great. Based on our experience, we'd recommend trying the other dishes instead here. We completed our meal with their famed apple strudel with vanilla sauce. Listed under the menu as a "warm viennese dessert" but what we received was room temperature. The texture was good though and it wasn't too sweet - worth a try! Service was decent considering how crowded the restaurant was. We did have to wait a while to get the check but our waiter was polite and professional; we could see he was doing his best serving many tables at once.

A lovely cafe to get an afternoon coffee and pastry. We sat outside on a beautiful afternoon. The sachertorte was decadent. And the service was friendly as well, although a little slow.

First cafe for us in Vienna. Since then we've had better apple strudel but it's still very good. 15 different kinds of coffee and hot chocolate so not difficult to find something for everyone. It was warm enough to sit outside and highly recommended to soak in the city.

I loved that everyone could easily seat themselves anywhere and would get a server immediately. Seeing all the different kinds off sweets made me want to get all of them! I would love to go again and get something different because it's definitely worth it.

It is one of the classics. Albeit the appreciation of Café Landtmann by tourists, it is still frequented by locals. Actually, I had a wonderful ad hoc conversation with a very wise Viennese (Does it sound like an oxymoron? Not anymore!). Okay - Melange done right. Apfelstrudel Jause is advertised and worth it. However, it is surpassed by Nusstorte, my real favorite (far away from my office and my colleagues with nut allergies).

The coffee was stellar and by far the best apple strudel in Europe I've had! I ordered a cafe latte and it came with a small glass of still water as a palate cleanser. It had cute little cubes of sugar wrapped in paper. It looked like candy! We sat outside in the patio and enjoyed the scenery while we sorted in coffee and geeked out on the fact that Sigmund Freud came here for his daily coffee. I'm not sure where he sat, but I'm pretty sure it's where I did! A pleasurable experience, but don't expect to slam a coffee and run. The service for your coffee is quick, but start asking for your bill a good 20 minutes before you need to leave. Let's just say we did some Amazing Race status running to get back on time at our meeting point.

There are some outrageously great pastry cafes in Vienna, all listed and reviewed here on Yelp. But you come here to Landtmann for the history, the ambiance and the strudel. and not the chai latte. (Are you kidding me? Who would order that here?) Freud, whose home was only four or 5 blocks away, supposedly hung out most mornings in the little room off to the side where the daily newspapers are hung. This is old Vienna. Morning pastries are sheer perfection, with cheese and apricots or chocolate and almonds. Tried dinner here, namely the grilled sausages and potatoes with some excellent Austrian strawberry wine, not sweet at all. The food was good, but not excellent as one might find in Paris or Lyon, Prague or even Budapest. And Austrian food is just German food really. Afternoons here are great for a piece of hazlenut torte which is off the hook delicious. I give this place five stars for the bakery alone, and oh, the delicious hot chocolate in the Winter, if you decide to come here in the cold weather.

One of Vienna's iconic landmark established in 1873 , just across from the city hall, where there is always some activity ( music, art, shows). This place is frequented by famous Hollywood stars and athletes. The apple strudel is fantastic, the staff are friendly.
