Good Experience but Needs Better Maintenance and Care
The National Zoological Park, New Delhi, is a great place for families, school trips, and wildlife lovers who want to spend a day surrounded by nature. Spread across more than 175 acres, it houses a variety of animals — from majestic white tigers and lions to elephants, rhinos, and exotic birds. The park also plays an important role in animal conservation and awareness, which is truly commendable.
However, the experience can be mixed. Many enclosures seem poorly maintained, and a few animals appear stressed or inactive — likely due to the Delhi heat and lack of proper cooling or enrichment. Some areas have littering issues, and restroom facilities could definitely use an upgrade. Electric vehicle rides are available, but they often have long queues and limited frequency, which can be tiring for elderly visitors or families with kids.
Tips for Visitors & Planning:
⏰ Best Time to Visit: Morning hours (9–11 AM), especially in winter or early spring, to avoid the heat and large crowds.
🎟️ Tickets: Book online through the official NZP website to skip long queues at the counter.
🚗 Getting There: The zoo is near Purana Qila and Pragati Maidan Metro Station — an easy walk or short auto ride away.
💧 Carry: Water bottles, caps, and light snacks (outside food is not allowed inside).
🦓 Electric Cart: Opt for the battery vehicle if you’re visiting with kids or seniors; the zoo is quite large to cover on foot.
📸 Photography: Allowed, but use zoom instead of flash to avoid disturbing animals.
Overall, the National Zoological Park is worth a one-time visit for its educational value and green environment, but it definitely needs better management, hygiene, and animal care to match the standards of modern wildlife parks.
