This monastery is one of Bhutan’s most iconic tourist destinations, built on a sheer cliff at an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters.
Known as Taktsang Monastery (also called the Tiger’s Nest), it is a sacred site of Tibetan Buddhism, and for many people, visiting this place alone is the reason they come to Bhutan.
Normally, the monastery is reached on foot, but I used a horse to go as far as the viewpoint along the way.
Even so, it was honestly very tough. The horse can only take you part of the way, and from that point onward you must walk on your own.
This latter walking section was far more exhausting than expected, and due to the altitude and steep path, I had to take many breaks along the way.
Using a horse does not make the journey easy at all.
However, once you finally arrive and see the monastery clinging to the cliff, along with the breathtaking scenery surrounding it, everything feels worth the effort.
The moment I reached the top, I truly felt glad that I pushed myself to get there.
I can honestly say that I came to Bhutan for this view.
While the journey is physically demanding, the experience and the scenery far exceed the hardship, making it a place that is absolutely worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
