3 Best Day Trips from Buenos Aires | Condé Nast Traveler

"A day in the countryside lunching and taking tea at El Ombú can be quite the interactive meal, and perfect if you have little time for a sleepover. Go with an empty stomach: you'll be greeted with an empanada and a glass of wine." - Sorrel Moseley-Williams

We spent two nights with our three small children at El Ombu. The rooms were fabulous - we had an enormous traditionally decorated living room and two gorgeous bedrooms with working wood burners and excellent modern bathrooms. The food was delicious, the staff were very attentive and the riding and gaucho experience was amazing. They really want you to feel at home - it’s a special place and we hope to visit again.

When I booked this estancia, I knew it was one of more authentic ones and it was also one of the cheaper ones too. So I was prepared for it to be fairly basic.|Upon arrival, the sun was gloriously shining and we fell in love with the grounds. We couldn't wait to drop off our bags and explore.|Our room was in the main old building. It was adequate for a nights stay but definitely no frills. Our toilet was also broken during our whole stay which was regrettable. I was glad we only booked one night!|After reading the previous reviews, we knew that lunch would be plentiful but we weren't quite prepared for the 7 different courses of meat that was served although most of it was quite tough and fatty. The house wine was also fairly poor standard.|After lunch we had a guided horse ride which was really fun and memorable.|Afterwards we enjoyed a dip in the pool to cool off.|When we returned, the large groups of day guests left and the whole place felt a lot more intimate and private which was nice.|Other than what I have already highlighted, the other main areas that I feel could really do with improvement was the lack of any warm welcome or formal introduction to the place. You really do have to work out what there is to do and where everything is located yourself.|Also, I feel the day guests were more welcomed, received priority and were given more attention than the overnight guests.|Lastly, after 5pm anyone with any authority/management leave the premises and if you encounter any difficulties you have to deal with the serving staff who hardly spoke any English so trying to get our toilet situation sorted was impossible. At least one Senior Person (with good English) should always be present in case of any emergency situation that needs dealing with.

We took a day trip to the Estancia El Omni de Areco in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was a rainy day before our trip and the road leading to the ranch was so muddy that we had to transfer from our tour bus to several small pickup trucks to the ranch. The air was so fresh and cool during the winter in July. We were welcomed by the Gauchos with soft drinks, tea, and empanadas. We were enjoying the folklore dancing, the horse shows, the Border Collies helped herding the horses, and horse riding. The lunch was delicious with variety of foods, and the beef steaks were so tender and juicy. It’s a pleasure to enjoy the peaceful day at the countryside with the friendly Gauchos.

We were greeted with exceptional hospitality and warmth by the owner even though we only came for a short visit. The grounds are beautiful. We would love to return.

Was there for the day. Greeted with empanadas and beverages. Enjoyed a carriage ride through the ranch, a dance demonstration, music, a horse whisperer demonstration, and a meal. They were very accommodating and made a vegetarian meal for me. The main meal consisted of salads and meat which was delivered in stages with blood sausage first, then chicken, pork, beef, and ribs.

Beautiful authentic estancia. Came with a group and we all loved it here! The views were phenomenal and the meals were delicious. The horseback riding was the highlight of this trip. None of us wanted to leave! 😄

Had a lovely time at the estancia. Our room wasn't quite ready but we were served empanada and a drink was served. Shown to our room, room 3. Old fashioned style but very nice. Large bed, air con and a fan if needed with plenty of wardrobe space. |Every day was a nice breakfast with toasts, revueltos etc. And at lunch came the procession of grilled meats with salads, side dish, plenty of wine etc. |I did my first ever horse ride for 90 minutes and it took some effort to get me on but the gauchos were patient. We did an hour next day too. |Every day was a short music show and some dancing plus demonstration of horse whispering.|Evening meal was a fixed menu at 20.30. Not much to do after so we used the pool room. |Loved seeing the animals and the friendly dogs on the ranch too.|Friendly suggestion: perhaps a leaflet in the room for guests explaining timings for meals etc and WiFi password plus also advise evening meal...one evening was mushroom risotto which many guests did not eat so unfortunately a lot of food was wasted.|Would recommend a two day stay overall.|

We enjoyed a fantastic night here as a family. After an amazing few days in Buenos Aires and the busy city, spending a night away in the quiet and beautiful countryside is just the tonic. The hosts were very welcoming, the room was full of character and included our own lounge area. |The lunch was fantastic- so much delicious tasting food off the barbecue, followed by some lovely entertainment and the unusual horse whisperer that was fascinating to watch. We then loved our horse ride through the fields that lasted about an hour. The evening meal was not quite up to the standards of lunch, however overall, I would highly recommend adding a day here to your itinerary when in Argentina!!!

Yelp
Such a nice experience! We visited on a cloudy day and still had a great time with 'el día del campo'. Which included horseback riding, welcome empanadas, access to the whole facility, a full asado for lunch (complete with wine and dessert of course), music and dance performance, and then some more horseback riding. From start to finish the staff was very helpful and hospitable. They helped us coordinate transportation and consistently checked in with us to see if we needed anything. Great vibes from this place. Also, they own a lot of land which made the horseback riding amazing and just walking around admiring the grounds was very enjoyable. Highly recommend this one!

Yelp
This ranch was a fantastic day-trip from BA. I enjoyed riding horses, sitting by the fire, the dance performance and the very kind and helpful staff. The pastries were out of this world-- simply the best bread pudding anywhere and very good cookies. But I didn't like the beef empanadas- too greasy. And the lunch was very basic for the cost. The meat wasn't thoroughly grilled, but it was still over cooked. The sides were fine, like cafeteria quality. I was expecting more for the cost. Any parilla in BA has better food, so come here for the fresh air, not steak.
