National Theater of San Salvador

I first visited the National Theater of San Salvador in December last year for a guided tour. It was my first time ever, even though I spent half of my life growing up in this beautiful country. The theater holds a rich history, from its foundation in 1911 to its inauguration in 1917, and even through its renovations in 1976. Today, it stands as a “history time capsule.” This year, I had the pleasure of revisiting the theater and attending a few performances. In April, I enjoyed “Las Cuatro Estaciones” by La Compañía Nacional de Danza, performed alongside the Orquesta Sinfónica De El Salvador, and “Efimera” by El Ballet Nacional. Both tours were led by friendly, respectful and professional tour guides who were knowledgeable about the theater’s history and dates. I was particularly impressed by the tour guides’ ability to retain the information in both English and Spanish. It was a pleasure to take the tour in English, and I was curious to learn more about the theater’s history in both languages. The admission fees for the tour and performances are reasonable for both locals and tourists. Additionally, the elderly are entitled to free admission. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the National Theater of San Salvador. The future is bright for El Pulgarcito de America.

Had a great night here. Wonderful building, now beautifully restored. Friendly, helpful staff. No seating allocation was odd, but get there early and get fantastic seats ( which are newly padded and very comfy). Great performance in a great theater on a nice square. So glad we decided to go.

The one star is only so you people can know: the theater is beautiful but there is absolutely no painting.. it is not beautiful as the one in santa ana! I sneaked in for free, if not i would pay maximum 1$ to go in.

A great cultural experience!

You want to know a little bit of the past~ take the tour in the Palacio Nacional. The structure of the building is amazing, but the best part is the floor tiles~! Wait to see the visual art of the floor~ you will not regret it!

Teatro Nacional de El Salvador, or National Theatre of El Salvador, is the oldest theatre in Central America. It began construction on November 3, 1911, by the French architect Daniel Beylard; and inaugurated March 1, 1917. It is of French Renaissance style with modern touches. It was decorated by the Italian architect Lucio Cappellaro, and its Great Hall is one of the most beautiful and elegant in Central America.

Beautifully constructed theatre in the city center of San Salvador. I watched “Nadie volverá a hacernos daño” by Carmen Soler and I had a great time watching. Would definitely return on my next visit to San Salvador.
