Welp .. unfortunately I did not read the reviews before booking a class . If I had , I would’ve avoided half a horrible experience . Arvin was very communicative while booking my pottery class before arriving to Costa Rica . I specifically asked “ if I book this class will I be able to retrieve my items the same day “ because I knew it would have to go into the oven. He said yes . When I arrived with my husband , Arvin was really cool and charismatic . He played American neo soul music while we worked . I chose to make a vase and my husband wanted to make a coffee cup to take and use for his daily coffee at home . My husband feels Arvin spent more time standing near and behind me assisting me and did not help him at all . In fact I recall him showing me then telling my husband “ just do what she’s doing. No biggie though . There was only one table beside the one we worked and no visible hooks so I pit my bag on a back table . Soon after there was a LOT of traffic ( young men running in and out of a back door and fishing around the table where my back was and my back was turned so I had to keep looking over my shoulder ). Arvin noticed I was very aware and he told me not to worry because those were his sons . I later read the reviews to find out someone had a similar situation and money was taken out of two bags . Arvin made a batch of water color paint . Not sure what that means but he was next to me working on his own project and as I was using black paint I saw he was too except his black was rich and shiny . I asked the difference he said mine was natural and his was chemical . As we were leaving I asked could we come back later to get our items and he said not until tomorrow at 3. When I booked 2 weeks prior he said same day but thankfully I allowed an extra day when booking. The next day came and I confirmed 3pm and then he said 5! I called before the 5 to ask if we could do 4:45 due to a dinner reservation and he said not until 6 or 7! Ultimately he contacted me and told me it was ready at 5. He said he had left already but our items were left there and wrapped waiting for us . We left our friends at a restaurant to pick it up to go back to finish dinner . We wanted to reveal our items without friends . When we opened them , my base had MULTIPLE breaks and fractures and chips . My husbands handle on his mug was broken and the paint was running down the side lol Both items had no shine , polish or glaze and were rough, porous and matte. We were so disappointed. We called and asked why they were in this condition and was told by Arvin it’s because he was rushing . ( as if that’s ok ). I asked what he would do to make it right and he never responded . I want to add that I read a review that their items were withheld and it was found later that the items were being sold . I want to add there was a lady there when we arrived and made a beautiful piece . I heard him tell her that he wanted to have it / keep it so he could sell it . The lady was very defensive when she said no . Now I’m wondering if she’s aware of what the less than above board business practices that goes on here . I DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you want to work several hours for broken pieces of matte clay and possibly stolen personal items , and wasted $80 per person with nothing to show for it .

CREEPY SCAMMER: I brought my best friend and her teen daughter. He got $80 in cash from us up front each. We had to come back to finish the pieces to let them dry. During our visit we put our items down on the other table and focused on painting. Cash was missing from both bags. He also began greeting all of us with really long, really awkward hugs. He would stand behind us, arms around us, pressing into our backs to show us how to paint the pottery. To the point where on the last visit where I thought I would be picking up my item I had to say "Today is a no touching day". He apologized and said that the "firing day" was always the day later until we had to leave. Then promised to ship them to us. I had another friend who was staying later who found our items for sale for other tourists after we left and while he was promising to ship them to us. Run don't walk. Visit "The Pottery Club" instead.

You absolutely MUST go to this location. The owner / artist is incredibly nice helpful and knowledgeable. He explains all the work and it is just a great vacation activity that everyone should do! they have really wonderfully priced works that you can fit in your carry on. The work that’s there is beautiful and I think everyone should atleast go and have a look. The owner also has the most precious dog ! So sweet and loveable. Support local artists especially this one. The fact they offer lessons for family’s and individuals at super reasonable prices on the beach is pretty unheard of plus get out of the sun for a bit and do this activity.

Really great local experience for anyone looking to get a souvenir and support local artists. The artist helps a lot with making sure your pottery turns out well, and you came make it all in one day, shape in the morning and paint in the afternoon, if you want to.

Absolutely add this to your list of things to do if you’re visiting Tamarindo. Arvin is a great teacher and will help to make sure your piece comes out looking just how you want it. We felt like we made a new friend in Tamarindo after taking his class. Don’t miss out!

I took a potteryclass with the owner and he said he could open the shop especially for me on sunday because i was leaving on tuesday and otherwise we didn't have enough time. So i made the piece and i could come paint it the next day on monday. After i painted the piece i was supposed to polish it but he didn't help me because there were other custumers, so i just painted it on my own and left. Hé said i could come and pick the piece up at 5 pm so i was there at 5 but he didn't show up. I texted him and he said he wasn't in Tamarindo so we could meet again around 6:00/6:30 pm and he would text me when he was there. I was a little annoyed because he didn't let me know and i had to text him otherwise i would have stood there for maybe 30 minutes or more. Around 7:00 pm i still hadn't gotten a text so i called and he said he was busy and we could meet again at 8:00 pm. It was very annoying!! Then at 8:00 i was at the shop but when i arrived, he was leaving and gave the piece to the restaurant next to it. He saw me and drove back on the drivingway, he gave me the piece but the piece wasn't finished... it was supposed to go into the oven so i could take it home safe but hé didn't do that. He just wrapped it in some paper and gave it to me like that.... i was very dissapointed because i was so proud of the piece i made and now de color is dull, it's not shiny at all and it will probably wont make it home safe because it isn't dry yet... My advice for the owner is: if you don't have time to teach a costumer how to do pottery you should just tell them and not charge them $80 dollars in advance and not finish their piece and don't stick to the appointments you made!

I had so much fun making my wine/water jug with Arbin. I had three one hour classes with him. For the first class we picked out what sort of shape I wanted to make and shaped my jug, the second class included polishing and smoothing and the third class I painted my design on the jug. He then lets the paint dry and bakes it in his oven for you to take home. A fun experience and he was a great teacher! Thanks Arbin!
