"The only national park in North Rhine, this protected area is located 40 miles from Cologne in the northern Eifel mountain range. Founded in 2004, it spans some 42 square miles, much of which has been shaped by volcanic activity over the centuries. Still technically a “national park in development” (meaning three quarters of the area needs to return to nature over the next 30 years), it nevertheless serves as a natural habitat for red deer, wildcats, kingfishers, and daffodils. Visitors can also expect to find natural beech and mixed forests, crystal-clear lakes, waterfalls, scenic valleys, and the open grassland of the Dreiborn Plateau, all of which can be explored on a hike, bike ride, or guided tour with a park ranger or forest expert. For a real challenge, try the 52-mile Wilderness Trail, which winds past the park’s full range of landscapes, or explore the area via its charming small towns like Monschau. There’s also the National Park Center, which offers a massive interactive nature experience called Wildnis(t)räume, explaining the natural cycle of creation and decay in the park."

Eifel National Park is a beautiful place to visit, especially in the fall. You can go on a family hike through the forest and enjoy the colorful leaves. It's a great way to spend time together and experience nature.

Plan, plan and plan. I thought a few hours around this national park would give me a good look at the place but not even close. There is so much to do here! There are plenty of car parks, all of which I found were 'pay and display', each with their own features. The river has multiple beaches to visit, a boat tour to go on which even on a hot day mid-week had a 10 minute queue so nothing major. I will be back in Germany soon, mainly to visit this park and spend a couple of days walking the river, crossing the bridges, taking the boat and exploring some beaches. A definite must-go if you are in the area. Cannot recommend it enough.

Oh I loved this place and we took about 2.5 - 3 hour walking route through nature and snow. It was peaceful and we got to see an abandoned church after some hike. You also get to get a really nice bridge view

Highly recommended autumnal hiking option to have an amazing combination of colors. Roughly the end of October there would be total full of great sceneries. Numerous historical places can make your hike different. Places to take a rest, have a drink or food are available

The beautiful national park is conveniently located close to the Netherlands, making it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. With easy access and a variety of recreational activities, the park is ideal for easy family hikes or bike rides. Few big lakes are connected by modern and quiet electric ferries.

The place has a good parking space nearby if one is interested in hiking. I visited it on a Sunday and it was less crowded in the morning and it got crowded by noon( particularly parks). The place is full of greenery and a lake and has many hiking trails. It was very calm and refreshing in the hiking trials and not many people were hiking. There are places to go boating as well as kayaking. There are many small Ice cream treks as well. Near the car parking space, there are washrooms which are available free of cost and they are clean. I would recommend visiting the place during hot season, it might get slippery if it rains.
