Chapel Street Bazaar

Incredible store filled with treasures. You could spend many hours scouring through the endless maze of trinkets, clothing, collectables, kitchenware, furniture and the giant fake rhinoceros priced at a cool $3k. A definite must if you love the old school goodness 😍 Don’t go there expecting a bargain, but worth it to have an incredible curated collection of vintage pieces.

OMG. I love this place! You need hours to go browsing through every little nook and cranny and it absolutely blows your mind. It’s like walking into a Time Machine and being taken off to different times in your childhood. There are modern things there too. Anything from memorabilia (incl. war) to jewellery, clothing, Lego, beautiful glass and kitchenware, Asian art, art of all kinds actually, to name just a few things. If you are into vintage and old stuff, this is your place. And even if you’re not, this will be your place anyway 😆 The staff are so knowledgeable and so very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. If you see something, you note it down and they come with the key and open up the cabinet. They chat with you and clearly enjoy the whole experience with their customers. It’s a very well organised and professional setup, and whenever I go to Melbourne, I head straight there for a day of wonder and anticipation (what might I discover this time!) Chapel Street Bazaar is the sort of place that puts a smile on your face every time you walk in, your shoulders drop from the stress of the city, and you are left to wander through a world of fascination. Give yourself a good half day because you will need it, you have to look at every tiny little corner otherwise you’ll miss out. I never walk away without a treasure.

Been coming here for a good forage for over twenty years and it’s maybe not quite as jam-packed with amazing finds as it once was, but we have never left without a few interesting treasures. Whether your jam is a weird taxidermy curio, groovy midcentury homewares or Bakelite bangles in every colour, you’ll find it here, and if not, it’s still an interesting way to while away a couple of hours, checking out all the nostalgic ephemera. Prices vary from stall to stall, so it’s within everyone’s budget.

Walk through memory lane in this store. If you are a collector, you probably can spend a few hours inside, as they even have a Playboy collection (sealed of course)! It is maybe a hoarder's paradise!

I absolutely love vintage thrift stores & this one’s the one, they literally have everything it’s like a maze from furniture, clothing, vintage art, jewellery, chandeliers, tins, & even old vintage coins for coin collectors such as myself, they have many different ranges but it can get a tad bit messy so you have to look very carefully, the staff are friendly however it’s quite expensive in my opinion seriously I know thrift stores are getting more expensive these days but this one is way overpriced only some items are sold for a decent price, however it’s a great place for collectors since there’s many unique vintage history items sold here & especially if you’re a teenager who has a good sense of taste you’re going to love it here, I guarantee that. 👑 Oh & here’s a tip dress your snazziest the people here have insanely great fashion taste, well most.

Regardless whether you want to buy something here or not, this is easily one of the most interesting and fascinating places to visit on Chapel Street. Feels like a museum with free entry. So much history, I think I stayed for 35 mins. I did not buy anything but still felt it was time very much well spent.

A treasure trove of delights & wonders. I was enthralled walking around the store. So many knooks and crannies, filled to the brim with unique knick knacks. Purchased a few little tid bits & look forward to my next visit.

Bizarre Bazaar! This cramped flea market is in the heart of the shopping district of Chapel Street in Melbourne. It's tucked into a strip shopping center, but this store goes on and on and on! The store is made up of various vendors' booths, each independently run, each with different themes or types of vintage and collectible items. The shops run from antique records, to vintage clothing to old posters. There's some strange stuff in here, but a lot of what you'd expect to find at a flea market. If you're getting dressed up for a costume party, or are just a hipster, this is a good place to go. When you enter, you are required to leave any bags at the door, and then allowed to wander the store. Many of the items weren't priced properly, leaving you to guess at the prices. Most of the booths were unmanned, so if you need to get a closer look at something behind glass, or inquire on the price, you're outta luck. One booth had a very overzealous merchant who kept trying to haggle with me over items that I had zero interest in. The bazaar is rather cramped, as you'd expect a bazaar to be. I felt nervous that I was going to break some priceless artifact the entire time!

Where can you have a retail experience and history lesson at the same time? You guessed it. Right here at Chapel Street Bazaar. This large second hand shop on Chapel Street is the site of many lost hours. Hours spent rummaging through countless area's filled with all manner of things. The space is segregated into over 70 market type stalls for you to get your forage on! You can expect retro furnishings, toys from your childhood, huge cult classic movie posters, funky retro fashions and vintage home ware and jewelery but you will mostly find what you don't expect. For a second hand goods Chapel Street Bazaar is over priced, but it needs to be or the stock would rush out the door and the huge space would be empty, and we can't have that. Don't worry though, its still good value! This place defines the term treasure trove. Get there and see what you can find!

The Chapel Street Bazaar is exactly that bazaar! It is filled with a crazy selection of retro and vintage products, from anywhere between the 20's up until present day. There are cameras, clothing, paintings, records, sculptures pretty much bits and pieces collected throughout the centuries that are now available for purchase or to collect. Chapel Street Bazaar is perfect if your after a gift for a friend and are just not quite sure what to buy. I often find myself becoming totally immersed in the crazy collections and rich historical atmosphere of the Chapel Street Bazaar, there is always something new and unique to look at and the whole shopping experience is really more of an adventure than anything else.

Super cool shop/market/antique shop/? Lots of awesome finds from vintage leather jackets to furniture to posters and other bric-a-brac. Prices are all over the place, some things are super reasonable, others not so much so it's like going on a treasure hunt every time you visit, never knowing what gem you're going to score. The only thing that completely depletes the score I give them is there repeatedly terrible (and I mean awful) customer service. The people that work there and run the store are rude, pretentious and couldn't give a flying you know what about their customers (or maybe just me?). They're dismissive and I think if any of them smiled their faces would crack. It's such a shame because it's an awesome store but it has on several occasions deterred me from buying big ticket items because I just don't like spending money in stores with rude people running them. For example, I was in there yesterday and an older woman that worked there followed me around like a bad smell- not because I needed help, not because she was being helpful, I genuinely thought I was going to steal something. Every time I picked something up she took (more like grabbed) it off me and said she'd hold it at the counter for me. I did end up buying the four items but didn't have much interest in buying anything else. When I went to pay the man running the register was abrupt, snatched my card off me when I went to pay, made no eye contact and didn't say a word to me.

If you're big on vintage and retro chic, you'll love Chapel Street Bazaar. Described as the mecca of the yesteryears, you'll find anything and everything from the 30s to 90s in this large, generously stocked store. From toys, clothes, hats, jewellery, homeware, collectibles, antiques and furniture, you'll need plenty of time to slowly sort through the products and relive your past. Even if you're not looking for anything in particular, it's a really awesome store to just browse through because there really is something for everyone. Take your time though and always check that electrical goods are in good working condition before you take them home. If you're looking for a one of a kind gift, Chapel Street Bazaar is the perfect place. And since the stock is always changing, you'll never know what you'll find on your next visit.

Chapel St Bazaar has everything vintage and collectable that you could imagine, including: clothing, records, old original movie posters, tin toys, and taxidermy animals. It's not particularly cheap, because the owners and buyers clearly know the value of their stock, so it's unlikely that you'll discover unexpected bargains. Whilst lots of the items at Chapel St Bazaar might appear to be little more than junk, when you do a bit of hunting you can see that there are actually heaps of weird and wonderful things in store that make it a great place to waste some time, if not to stock up on original 1970's Playboys and the like.

Great place for a fossick for hipsters to collectors to Nannas, and also sticky beakers like me who just enjoy strolling the aisles looking over the crazy assortment of odd and wonderful recent relics.

Over 70 individual stalls stocking everything retro, antique, cool and bizarre are packed into this one location. There's just so many things here, it's almost like you're on a treasure hunt. And whether you're a collector, history buff, geek, or just love all things unique and quirky, you'll definitely walk out of here with a gold! They stock everything from jewelery, furniture, clothes, rare toys, books, knick-knack and so much more.

So disappointed to ring and ask if they can ship something I was not able to pack into my suitcase for the flight home to Western Australia. They have a NO SHIPPING at all policy I was told. Seems that they are not interested in the $450 sale I was offering them on two items.
