Dr Morse Bar & Eatery

Google
I recently chose Dr Morse on Johnston Street, Abbotsford as the venue for an end‑of‑year celebration with a group of friends, and the experience was exemplary from start to finish. This multi‑faceted bistro and bar seamlessly combines relaxed sophistication with an energetic atmosphere; from its stylish brick‑lined interiors to the vibrant beer garden that invites convivial conversation well into the evening. I ordered the spinach and feta ravioli, perfectly executed with balanced flavours and a thoughtful presentation that underscored the kitchen’s commitment to quality. This was complemented by a well‑chosen red wine, which harmonised beautifully with the dish and contributed to an elevated dining experience. Throughout the evening, the attentive and professional service enhanced our enjoyment without ever feeling intrusive. Beyond the meal itself, Dr Morse’s lively yet refined ambience and its reputation for eclectic cocktails, local wines and engaging weekend programming make it a destination worth returning to. Whether one is seeking a celebratory dinner, a casual gathering or an event space for private functions, the venue delivers on both culinary and social fronts. Overall, our visit to Dr Morse was not merely a meal, but a thoughtfully curated experience that reflects the high standard of hospitality and community spirit emblematic of Melbourne’s best neighbourhood venues.

I had a great experience at Dr.Morse and had a small issue with my pasta and the waiter was incredibly responsive to the issue. The atmosphere was also incredible I did feel like the proportions were small for how much you’d paid but overall a great experience.

Google
Incredible coffee, very good atmosphere, despite the goings on in the street which can be dubious in that area. The venue itself is extremely well done with very good staff and food. Would go back for sure.

Great staff, really good food. Weekday lunches are a treat. $20 pasta is great value. And Tuesday steak night will beat most venues on taste and value.

I vistied Dr. Morse recently on Steak night having not been here since they completed their refurbishment around 12 months or so ago. The service was great and the food was incredible. The steak I had was amazing and totally unexpected for the $25 I paid. Incredibly tender and a good size. The only criticism I have is that they have made all their front bistro area high tables and so they all have these tiny stools to sit on. They are pretty uncomfortable and even though we had a reltively quick meal I was happy to get off this "chair" at the end of the night. Suggest you book in the bistro if you don't want to sit on a stool that has no back.

I loved both the atmosphere and staff. Loved the bartenders especially Elijah, great banter and drinks - gave me great laughs that bar staff haven’t given me in a while!!! Come here if you want to capture the great Fitzroy/collingwood vibe!

Came here for a friend’s birthday and had a really nice time in the outdoor area out back. It was a busy day but I thought the staff were doing great at keeping up with demand. There was also a live DJ using actual records which was awesome! All I’ll say is that the bathroom was tiny (admittedly only went to the outdoor one) and is quite claustrophobic when it’s a busy weekend. Would come again!

I’m not a Melbourne local but I was so happy to stumble in here. The food is amazing (order the friend bread), the staff are incredibly lovely and welcoming, and the atmosphere is lovely. There was such a mix of people and they were all laughing. Well worth the stop

Yelp
Dr Morse, you have made a fan out of me. I've got mad love for this place. Came in for Saturday morning brunch and with the decent weather, decided to sit outside. This place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating we snagged a table outside without issue. With the outside bar, we ordered and paid at the counter then endured the short wait for coffee and food. Now my latte was a bit more on the milky side, but today I was totally ok with having a milder coffee. Then brunch came. Now I was expecting greatness but was hesitant as to whether these guys and gals could deliver. But they did! I ordered the Dr Morse Benedict with bacon. I was totally not expecting the chilli, coriander and spring onion to compliment the panko-crusted eggs, roti and bacon. But holy toledos it was divine! The fresh chilli added a nice heat with each mouthful without being overwhelming, the cilantro added a nice subtle flavour without overpowering the dish. The spicy hollondaise had a lightness to it that complimented the saltiness and heaviness of the bacon. Oh and the roti. Never in my life have I enjoyed such a flaky and crisp roti and I'll never forget it. My meal was just perfection. I'm almost sure the eggs were supposed to be poached, in which case they were totally overdone but I actually preferred it more. Sadly, my partner wasn't too crazy about his poached eggs and sourdough with added heirloom tomato and bacon. The tomatoes were underseasoned and it was questionable whether he received a sourdough bread. I also got a chai latte to go which was delicious. Highly recommended, there seriously ain't nothing better than an epic brunch in the sun to fill a happy belly and put a smile on your face, and this place nails it.

Yelp
I tend to show up to Dr Morse for cheeky drinks. Tough day at work? Let's meet at Morsey's. Long week? We end up at Morsey's. Just not ready to deal with the train traffic? Morsey's! Gotta admit though, I've never actually been here for food. I've just come to know it as my cheeky drink place. It helps that it's right in between Victoria Park station and my current workplace. If you walk in an L-shape that is. The drinks at Dr. Morse are always spot on. The cocktail options always change. The beer is always crafty and top notch. Extra kudos for having 'Tight Arse Tuesdays,' 'When in Ramen,' taco days and bbq's. Oh and the retractable roof in the back courtyard. I cannot imagine a better investment for this unnatural Melbourne weather.

Yelp
As you can probably tell from my check-ins I've been to this place quite a few times. There is a pretty good reason for that - it's awesome. Okay, I have to admit that after work, especially on Fridays, it gets really, really crowded, so don't expect to find any place where you can sit down for a quiet drink (no quiet drinks here unfortunately). However, this place also seems to be open at the crack of dawn ready to serve some pretty decent coffee and a really cool breakfast. In fact I had some spring rolls, though not what you would expect, these were banana spring rolls, and I have to admit that they were nothing short of awesome. If it wasn't for the fact that the train gets pretty packed in the morning I'd be coming back here more often for those delicious spring rolls.

Yelp
I arrived here on a Sunday morning around 9.30 am. There's free parking right outside on Sundays. There's not much nearby and there is also a bus stop quite close. So very accessible. It's got a large industrial style layout with a large courtyard. The loos are outside and clean. Winning The menu has panko style eggs benedict with a choice of mushrooms, salmon or other sides for 22. I went for the chilli scrambled eggs with a shot of chilli and Vietnamese style mint. Service is quite quick and the staff are uber friendly. The place didn't seem to get busy at all and I believe there was even a reservation for 10 people. The lunch menu looked equally enticing but only starts at 11. My friend was enamoured by the duck main on their lunch menu. Portion sizes are great. My chilli scrambled eggs despite the shot of chilli were not spicy and quite bland. I had to douse them with saLt and pepper. I could definitely taste the Vietnamese flavours with all the bean sprouts and mint leaves but these garnishes took away flavours from the egg. The roti was nice but then again I could not taste anything. So though I want to give this dish a five out of five, the lack of taste makes it hard. My friends devoured their Panko fried poached eggs and one of them kept complaining about how creamy the hollandaise sauce was (it's hollandaise sherlock - stop complaining). The mushrooms were delicious. But I guess my issue with this dish is that it is almost identical to the eggs benedict at sir Charles.

Yelp
Only for their coffee .... Their Soy Lattes is never failed to impress, hitting all the right notes, nuttier than most, creamy and enough kicks. Order through a Window .... Crates chairs and tables are novelty sitting under Victoria Park station while watching big graffiti across and people passing by. Only dislikes are those smokes coming from this smokers' favourite spot.

Yelp
The coffee and tea is amazing here, and the chai lattes are off the charts wonderful. The atmosphere and design of this place is flawless and so classy and urban. Good selections of drinks and small snack type meals. Plus, outside has heaters so it's a great pick for those cold Melbourne nights. I will never stop coming here.

Yelp
I went there for coffee and breakfast on a Sunday morning. The coffee was okay, but the breakfast was great! I had the corn cakes and they were definitely different from your typical fritter. The chimichurri dressing makes the dish great. Location is conveniently located next to Victoria Park train station. Wait service was decent but could be better.

Yelp
Normally I don't venture to the North side as I am too lazy to get my butt over there. Loving this place. Serving delicious craft beers on tap & bottle and lovely wine list. Delicious menu. My burger was tasty and nice :p Love the courtyard, very cool tunes on Sunday afternoons. x

Yelp
Great service, amazing coffe, try the Heirloom tomatoes with goat curd on toasted rye & verjuice,, so awesome. They cater for vegans and vegetarians. Fabulous outdoor area

Yelp
The service here hasn't been the best and coffee is overpriced and seems hyped up. I did get free sparkling water once from there so that was a great thing. Smiles go a long way please don't be "too cool" for that

Yelp
I've been to Dr Morse for a good beer event (and had a fantastic time) - and been keen to get back ever since. We had breakfast in the courtyard out the back. The weather was perfect for it, it really is a lovely spot. I ordered the heirloom tomato breakfast for about $19. I was surprised when it came out - one small tomato cut in half and baked, about 1/6 of an avocado, 3 slices of toast and some basil (I had asked to omit the goats feta). It was a real let down. Not fresh and vibrant like would be expected from a dish like this ... Just a few tiny morsels that I tried to spread over a lot of toast to give it some flavour. Not good at all sadly. My partner had the scrambled eggs and thought they were nice. I would come back and try their lunch/dinner menus again, but would not come back for breakfast.

Yelp
Good little spot near the public transports for coffee and a bite to eat. A fellow patron's dog kept jumping on me one time while I was waiting for my coffee, much to my delight. Honestly I doubt you'll be so lucky. I'd give it 5 stars but sometimes dat shiz take aaaaages while I miss my bussy

Yelp
Visiting from Sydney, stumbled upon this place during our visit. oh man. Glad we did! The service was great, food was delicious and beer selection were pretty good. We had the delicious pork bao the snapper and the beetle leaf w chicken. Definitely plenty for 2 people. Highly recommend this place! Served by a lovely lady named Rachel. Rad times.

Yelp
Could not fault anything about this place. Great food & service with a funky fitout to match. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Yelp
Lovely place for a mid-week drink. We went on a cold winter's night and had a toasty mulled cider. The mood is inviting (not quite 'cozy' but a good place to sit and chat) and the music is set at "just right". We didn't eat but I bet it would be a good spot for that too.

Yelp
Spent a cold winters night at Dr Morse by the 'fire' enjoying a few glasses of wine. It was quiet, being a weeknight and what was probably one of the coldest nights of the season, but the place was cosy, and the wine selection ok (some felt like they'd been open too long), so a pleasant time was had. Feel like I have to be back in summer and try some food to really be able to embrace what they do here, so I shall do just that!

Yelp
Came for brunch and loved the unpretentious, inventive and delicious food. Super casual atmosphere and serve yourself water and order at the bar (suits me fine). Highly recommend ther Malay fried chicken burger - the best I've had (it doesn't have any asian spices it's a straight up fried chicken burger in a soft roll). Their cheesy potato tots with chorizo will satisfy anybody that loves potato gems/has and cheese with perfect outer crisp and fluffy mash inside. I need to come back and try the other dishes, and hit up their ramen night.

Yelp
Pretension and Over-Pricing over Substance. Food - Average Service - wait staff have absolutley no idea what's going on Pricing - about 25 -30 for a small piece of protein and some veg - no distinction between any of the flavours on the plate and only a minor distinction in texture, if you have a small to moderate appetite you will prob still need to get some fries somewhere on the way home. Drinks - only drank beer - couple of tap beers and cider, none to my taste. Selection of standard import beers you'd find anywhere Ambience - this is the strong point and beside the Victoria train Station ramp leading directly to the front door, it does promise an intimate local sophisticated stop off, minimal but warm fit out including open fire place, large cosy well heated beer garden serviced by another small bar, usually serviced by people more consumed with themselves then anyone they are serving. The couple of times I've been there there has been a DJ playing what some disappointingly dreary electro mediocrity. One drink and a small bite afterwork will leave you your appetite and thirst unsatiated, your senses a little confused, and a strange sense of disconnect as well as your a disproportiate amount of your weekend entertainment budget plundered!

Yelp
The food was delicious. I had the beet salad and fries, and one of the best G&Ts I've ever had in my life. The venue had a great vibe too and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Sooooo good. I had these spicy eggs Benedict over salmon and veggies. The veggies were a tiny bit over-salted but the rest of the meal made up for it. Went out back to use the bathroom before we left - it looked really fun out there! Bar with lots of ambiance, meats roasting over a grill. I would love to go back.
