This adorable restaurant is set in the most idyllic location on a working farm, with gorgeous views of Lake Mývatn. It’s a must-visit for us whenever we are anywhere near North Iceland.
Tucked inside a cozy converted cowshed (which is exactly as charming as it sounds), the restaurant specializes in fresh, farm-to-table, homemade local food, including smoked lamb, smoked trout, homemade cheese, homemade pastries, Geysir bread (baked underground using geothermal heat), and, of course, meat from their own farm. Over the years, we have tried almost everything on the menu — from hamburgers to soups to desserts — but the lamb is always our favorite. It’s incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned every time.
Our kids absolutely love it here. There’s something magical about enjoying a warm, cozy meal while watching the sun set over the farm and the cows being milked just a few steps away in the shed. We’ve even gotten to visit the cows both inside the shed and outside, which makes the experience even more special.
The restaurant also has a small boutique country store featuring Icelandic handcrafted art and traditional goods. They also offer guesthouses if you want to stay the night and fully enjoy the peaceful farm setting. It’s a place that perfectly captures the warmth, charm, and simple beauty of Icelandic farm life.
