This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. From check-in through check out, we had the best experience. The staff are lovely and welcoming, the views are incredible, and the room was comfortable, clean, and modern. The window seat with a morning sunrise view was a particular favorite moment. We ate at the restaurant on our final night and had the best meal of our time in Madeira! We can't recommend this hotel highly enough - we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Madeira.

Outstanding hotel, we had an amazing room with a cave lit up behind glass as the headboard. Food was unbelievable, we stayed 2 nights and ate in hotel both nights. You were asked if you preferred fish or meat course or tasting menu of both for the evening, then you were served whatever was fresh from the market and garden that day. Each dish we had was a delight. Breakfast was delicious with multiple courses served to the table. Very relaxing atmosphere throughout the hotel. Excellent staff, very friendly and attentive. No request was too much trouble. My only regret is that we weren't staying longer. This hotel will definitely be my first port of call if we return to the island of Madeira. Well done team Solcalco 👏 (steep hill walk down to village if that might be an issue for some but wasn't for us)

I traveled to Madeira with three girlfriends and, after looking carefully at several places to stay, we chose Socalco. It was the best decision we could have made. The views are breathtaking, the rooms modern, clean, beautiful, and comfortable, the restaurant is amazing, and the staff did everything they could to help us (arranging taxis, massages, packing up our breakfasts for early morning excursions, baking a cake for my birthday). After a busy day exploring all that Madeira has to offer (hiking, surfing included), it was a gift to be able to return to Sunny Socalco each afternoon to unwind, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal. Thank you for making our vacation so special!

We stayed at Socalco on the second leg of our honeymoon visit to Madeira. The hotel offers an exclusive retreat with amazing scenery, very pleasant albeit minimalist rooms, & amenities that are very pretty. We had a beautiful stay and it suited our needs perfectly. Some notable positives would be the amazing window seats in the rooms, the fresh and locally produced food for breakfast that was different each day, and the hotel was very clean throughout. There were only a couple of negatives in what was all in all an amazing stay.. the parking was sketchy but manageable if you are confident driving. The mini bar is very expensive (beers that are 0,75€ in the supermarket in the town are 4,50€ in the fridge) but I suppose this isnt unusual for hotel minibars. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive but it took a lot (...a lot) of reminder that my wife did not eat meat and they kept bringing plates of ham. There was also nowhere to refill filtered water in the hotel so we had to mostly stick to tap water apart from the 0.75L bottle that's refilled by staff (although a day was missed). Although not expected, it would have also been nice to have had some recognition that we were celebrating a very special occasion in our honeymoon as we had mentioned in our initial messages. That said, we both absolutely loved our stay!

Wow - what a fantastic stay. We had a full week here, and it was excellent. I'll cover a few things here. First off, the food. It's really very good. Some of the best we've had anywhere. Each breakfast is new. They raise most of their own crops there, which is very cool. And they incorporate what's in season for their menu. It's a special menu. Second, their service and staff are also lovely and friendly. Very personal - one of the benefits of a boutique hotel. And Calheta is a small town which we found to be especially friendly, too. The hotel is well located for the Calheta beach as well as restaurants on the dockside. The location is beautiful with stunning views each morning over breakfast. It's not a cheap place to stay, but I found it to be good value. We paid a bit more to have a room with a kitchenette so we could have lunches or light dinners in, rather than eat out each night. Parking in and around the area - or, frankly, anywhere in Madeira - can be challenging. The hotel has two small parking lots and they'll help get you sorted, but the hills are real! We stayed in the Cave room (Gruta) which I'd recommend as it has a bit more space in case you want to spread out a bit. It's a super quiet place, particularly in rooms 6-8. Very good wifi, too!

We just loved everything about this hotel. Set in an amazing location perched on the cliffs and land overlooking Calheta beach and town- sea views, bird watching, fantastic food , beautiful rooms and the best, friendliest staff who could never do enough for us - a mixed South African /uk friends group. We loved them all and remember each staff member with great fondnes- from reception to the kindness of the gardeners, waiting staff and sommelier. |This is an eco hotel with food and herbs grown locally and wines from their own vineyard. |We ate two meals in the evenings which were exceptional but the most memorable was a night in the Tuesday sitting outside with a fire and espetata beef, veges, excellently recommended wines and Madeira wine to end. We loved the atmosphere the food and the service which just kept coming with quality every time. .|Breakfasts were brilliant , interesting and varied … everyday a new treat of imaginative fruits, yoghurt and eggs on demand. |We loved the lunch time vegan salad as well - topped up by treats from the kitchen as a chance to try something different.|The culture was an open kitchen to wander in and out of - but we were also aware of not getting in the way of the chef and his team.||We were amazed at the culture of client care which was personal and warm hearted- and remarkable. |This is a perfect place to revive oneself and we would have stayed much longer if we had t booked a change of hotel beforehand . Great pool that was small but totally sufficient .|Thoroughly recommend it … you do need to be able to get up and down stairs though as built into the hillside.

Very unique small hotel in Calheta. |Clings to the side of the cliff. Our casita was perfect: great bed, excellent views, plenty of space ace. We were in 9.|Staff in the restaurant were warm. Food was good. We were the 4 nights, ate all of our breakfasts and dinners there.|They did serve my husband scallops on the last night after 3 days of reminding them he is allergic. They quickly substituted for something else.|Little road down to the hotel is super sketchy:narrow and steep!|Will recommend to anyone visiting Madeira:)

The service was excellent, and the hosts were very attentive and hands-on. The food was delicious and fresh (I especially loved the homemade sourdough). However, overall it felt quite expensive for what it is. The drinks, in particular, were overpriced and didn’t feel justified in my opinion. As for breakfast, I really enjoyed the selection, and it was a nice touch that everything was brought to the table rather than buffet style, which made for a relaxing start to the day.
