A must-see cafe for anyone travelling to Cheongju, Ilmyunsik is a minimalist Bauhaus style coffee bar occupying a large third floor space just a stones throw from the Modern Art Museum.
The interior itself feels closer to a minimalist exhibition space than a coffee shop; long wooden counter tops, striking monochrome colour scheme and carefully placed desk lamps keep the atmosphere low key. Gazing outside the windows offer an unbroken view over the re-developed “Dong-bu Warehouse Precinct” (a rare insight into 1960s Korea, preserved and unchanged over the last 50 plus years).
At the time of visiting, Ilmyunsik were using a selection of coffee beans from Busan roaster WERK. This included an espresso blend “Baby” and two single origins for V60 Filter from Costa Rica and Guatemala.
