Any entrepreneur who is brave enough to open up a restaurant and coffee bar in this somewhat awkward location, deserves a try.So when I saw Rooms Coffee had opened up at this busy, awkward Dundas and Lansdowne intersection, I knew I had to make it in quickly.
They have set up a surprisingly serene patio space which is a small oasis in a very urban Area. On my visit there I had a Cortado, which was served in a custom-made glass, which added a delightful and very original feel to the experience. My barista was pleasant, conversational and welcoming.
Unfortunately, I believe the lightness of the espresso blend they are using at Rooms limits the depth and richness of their espresso-based drinks. This is of course, a matter of taste, and as those who follow my reviews will know, I prefer a much darker roast for my espresso based drinks. My Cortado therefore was disappointing because the coffee seemed to get lost in the flavour of the milk.
A visit to this café is certainly worth it because of the design and concept of the space. I would recommend however, perhaps ordering something other than an espresso based drink and next time I'm in, I will give that a try!
