Hamish Bowles Sambas His Way Through Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval | Vogue

"Blissfully ensconced on Leblon’s sea-licked coast, I settled into an amazing room that framed a view of the Cagarras Islands—a Zen-like sanctuary from the Carnaval madness already in full fig on the Burle Marx-designed sidewalks outside. Opening officially next month, the hotel is the brainchild of designer Oskar Metsavaht, whose Osklen brand was built on sustainability and “new luxury.” Built in 1975, when this area of Rio’s famed coastline was being developed into luxury apartment buildings to replace the Beaux Arts villas built at the turn of the last century, it has been reconceived to embrace Metsavaht’s philosophies and exemplify his values." - Hamish Bowles

JANEIRO Hotel (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"JANEIRO Hotel rises above Leblon Beach, facing the Atlantic with nothing in the way. It is the work of designer-turned-hotelier Oskar Metsavaht, who brings the same sharp eye to interiors as he does to fashion: Brazilian timber, sculptural furniture, and floor-to-ceiling views of sea and sky. The rooftop pool lines up Christ the Redeemer, Two Brothers, and Ipanema in one cinematic sweep. Well-positioned for both city exploring and beach days, it offers one of the best views in town." - Tablet Hotels

Janeiro Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"A boutique beachfront property in Leblon that opened in mid-2018 and has since collected international design awards, this hotel blends contemporary Brazilian style with an understated, nature-forward luxury. Owned and curated by couturier-turned-hotelier Oskar Metsavaht, rooms feature Osklen scents, the owner’s artwork, honey-hued freijó wood panels and handcrafted furniture from local artisans, embodying a described ethos of “natural minimalism.” The hotel emphasizes sustainability—renewable materials, plastic-free amenities and eco-conscious partnerships—while offering 51 rooms (including 15 suites) across an 18-floor building with sweeping Atlantic views. Food and drink are highlights: a second-floor restaurant led by Chef Diego Ali focuses on locally sourced, organic ingredients with dishes like grilled octopus and Moqueca-inspired seafood paired with biodynamic South American wines, while an upper-level bar serves inventive cachaça cocktails (the Macunaíma is singled out) beside a cozy infinity pool with views of Two Brothers Mountain. Guests enjoy practical perks such as free parasols and sun beds for the adjacent Leblon beach, complimentary Ipanema flip-flops, free bikes for rides to the Lagoa, and a partnership that provides free access to a nearby Body-Tech gym. Ideally sited on Avenida Delfim Moreira, it’s within easy walking distance of Leblon and Ipanema beaches, galleries, boutiques and notable restaurants, with rates starting around $400 per night and Santos Dumont Airport roughly 15 km away."

This hotel is in a perfect beachfront location in LeBlon, close to shopping and restaurants in a walkable area. Simple luxury is what they do very well. Rooms are minimalist in design but well thought-out. They bring their guests in touch with a real Rio "carioca" lifestyle with natural light in all their spaces and easy access to the beach and boardwalk. Easy breezy simple luxury!

Really nice hotel. Great location and an intimate feel. Ocean front rooms are beautiful with a fabulous view. Open plan bath and shower a little weird and only one sink is a pain but otherwise it's a really great place to stay. Food good too.

This is a fantastic hotel. The staff was really accommodating and sweet, the breakfast is amazing and the rooftop is incredible. We looked at both the ocean view room and the partial ocean view room and ended up actually preferring the partial ocean view room even if it was smaller, as it felt a lot cozier. The whatsapp room service was very smooth and an easy way to chat with the staff.

Wonderful hotel that is quite luxury in one of the best neighborhoods. Their staff is professional and kind. They were so helpful with all our needs, including speaking English! The breakfast was delicious with a spectacular view of Leblon beach. We can’t wait to go back! We highly recommend the Janeiro Hotel!

An exceptional stay at Hotel Janeiro. Few hotels offer the same warmth and personalized service as you find here. I truly recommend it and would gladly return.

I had an absolutely unforgettable stay at Hotel Janeiro! Everything was just perfect. The service was incredibly professional, warm, and attentive. A special thank you to Camila, who was so patient and dedicated, and to Gabriel, always ready to help with a big smile — the two of them made every visit to the front desk a real pleasure! The hotel is perfectly located, right across from the beach. You can go for a swim anytime and be back in your room within minutes, without even having to leave anything on the sand. The breakfast on the first floor is a real highlight — delicious, fresh, and served with a breathtaking view you’ll never get tired of. Another amazing perk: guests get access to Body Tech gym, and three mornings a week, there’s a free beach workout class just across the street. It’s one hour of fitness with an instructor, either solo or in small groups, and the vibe is just incredible. But be warned: you’ll need to wake up early in Rio — the sun sets sooner than you’d think! Don’t miss out on using the hotel’s bikes either — cycling along the beachfront is a must. Though I have to admit, it’s hard not to get distracted by all the beautiful people working out on the beach 😄 Last but not least, a big thank you to Edgar Tomazini, in charge of sales, who gave me a thorough and professional explanation of the hotel. His insights made a big difference in my experience — it simply wouldn’t have been the same without him. In short: amazing location, impeccable service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. An unforgettable stay in Rio — highly recommended! Vincent Spieler

Google
Awesome hotel right on the beach in Leblon. Front desk was always welcoming and incredibly helpful with recommendations (all sent via Whatsapp with links for us to check them out), and the bar staff at the rooftop pool (which is the highlight of the hotel) were great to us our whole stay. Next time we’re in Rio, we won’t be staying anywhere else!

Overpriced regarding the quality. - Not really comfortable rooms with a bathtub in the middle of the room without any wall; - Guests and staff use the same elevator so you have to wait for the elevator all the time; - Fun fact: you will be charged for every used coffee capsule in your room (just ridiculous because of the price in 1500$ per night); - Service is okay, but not remarkable; - Good breakfast and a beautiful beach view.
