Bún bò Huế O Xuân

Situated out of the busy tourist area of Old Quarter, we ventured to what felt like a local Hanoi spot for Bun Bo Hue. We were the only tourist that night & came very hungry. The soup portion was big & the amount that comes with the house special was plentiful. I am not Vietnamese or have had bun bo hue outside of Midwest USA Vietnamese restaurants but I always thought of it as a spicy soup. I was surprised at the clearer broth & as you can see added to my soup to make it spicier. The flavor was on the sweeter end for me but overall still good!

They serve Hue specialty dishes like Hue style noodle and dishes like banh beo, banh nam, nem lui. The service was bit slow and the waiter keep on forgetting our orders. They don’t really understand English and simple instructions (hand signal) is good enough. Their menu is with pictures so easy to order. Don’t get to try their dessert, really good.

Catering to the local folks, the hot noodle broth satiated my craving for Bun bo Hue 😋 The mixed platter appetizer was delightful in both taste and texture. Everything we ordered was on point ❤️

Restaurant specialized in dishes from Huế (a city in the central part of Vietnam). We tried 3 different dishes. It was ok overall but not memorable. Services were efficient.

Not sure why the bad reviews, but I found this to be a solid bowl of BBH. And it arrived in less than a minute of me ordering it. Some BBH are more sweet, but this one is definitely savory, which is what I like. Truthfully it isn't spicy. It lacked the sate part. But there are crushed chillies, picked sliced garlic with chillies and raw onions for you to customize your broth. After all my adjustments, it was perfect. The only room for improvement would be broth temperature as mine was just a bit warm. Plus my pork knuckle was very small. The pigs blood is hard type but brittle, I normally prefer the soft type. But it was still good. I ordered the Dac Biet 80k

This place was recommended to us by our tour guide. It did not disappoint. I got the Bun Bo Hue and was pleasantly delighted by the complex flavors. The noodles came with generous goodies like pork hock, pork balls, fish balls, and beef. 10/10 would come back again

Better than Pho in my opinion!! Must try also the Che Thai dessert, I ordered twice bc it was really good

Looking for something other than Bánh mi or Pho? Try Bun bo Hue, the rich beef bone and variety of protein is amazing. Add chili powder and raw garlic to tie it all together!
