On the Grid : Café Negro

"Drinking coffee has always been a tradition in Coyoacán given its multiple options and variety of places. CAFÉ NEGRO is a hip place and a rapidly becoming a new classic. You can enjoy a good artisan coffee from Atoyac, Guerrero. The pancakes are a treat and go pretty well accompanied with a Mocha made with chocolate from Oaxaca. The place is cozy, there's good music and you can also order a baguette. Definitely a new classic right at the heart of Coyoacán." - Leolab

It might look just like another coffee shop, but their sandwiches and coffees are delicious. I wish we had one of these in Toronto. I will ditch Timmy in no time. :)

Google
Some of the best coffee in CDMX and one of the most delicious roast beef sandwiches I've had in my life. The space is intimate, relaxed, and you'll be planning a return before you leave.

Charming cafe in Coyoacán. Coffee is some of the best I’ve had in CDMX and pastries are always fresh and tasty. The cafe is clean with comfortable seating. Service is friendly and most employees speak some English but the cafe is almost always extremely busy so you should be prepared to wait a bit for drinks/food…but totally worth the wait if you have time!

Google
A beautiful cafe in Coyoacan, close to the market and also to the Frida Kahlo museum. I went there for breakfast. As well as coffee, there is a good selection of savoury and sweet pastries. I had the horchata cold brew and a chocolate concha.

Google
Simple and efficient, this café offers delicious food (sweet and savory), a wide range of coffee options (+ a few teas) and you can easily charge your phone since they have many outlets available.

Lovely space to get a nice cup of coffee, get a corner with your laptop, and spend hours people watching :)

Google
Small laid back cafe. They offer lots of sandwiches and also had vegan overnight oats, with coconut milk. The staff was friendly.

Yelp
Found this nifty named coffee shop in Coyoacan during our first night in Mexico City, and found this to have the perfect balance of ambience and good coffee. My husband had the coffee Americano and I had a mocha with a tasty almond croissant. The service was spot on, and the prices were actually somewhere between what you would pay at a typical coffee shop in the U.S. and a good deal for a total price. I wanted to come back to Coyocan and visit this coffee shop, but didn't get the chance. Next time I will.

Yelp
A great spot in a cute part of town. All the coffees we had over two days were delish. The staff was pleasant and there was a nice clean bathroom. The pastries were solid and this was a very nice stop.

Yelp
Had to get my second caffeine fix for the day after spending the afternoon in the Coyoacan neighborhood and visiting the Frida Kahlo museum nearby. This shop is trendy, clean, and most of all, the coffee was GOOD. Definitely agree with other reviews that it is strong! I just got an iced latte, and it was the best coffee I had during my trip to CDMX.

Yelp
Very modern and hoping coffee shop in downtown Coyoacan! This place is super nice inside, has great coffee and food, along with very good and reliable WiFi. Ambiance/Service: The place is super modern and relaxing inside with a fun atmosphere and chill music. The service is also great, friendly and quick. Food/drinks: The coffee and sandwiches here are really good and definitely worth trying. Haven't tried the desserts yet, but if I can get here again, I will definitely try them since they look really really good. Definitely recommend checking this place out for good coffee, good lunches, and good WiFi if that is what you are looking for.

Yelp
Great place to fuel up in Coyoacan before or after the Frida Kahlo museum. Great coffee shop in an area where coffee is scarce. They have morning deals for coffee and a pastry for under $4. The coffee is very strong. And the pastries are out of this world. I wish I had the ability to eat all of their pastries including a Macha Green tea croissant that looked amazing. I do not speak Spanish and I was able to order without an issue.

Yelp
When you're strolling through Coyoacan near the church and fuente de Lobos, stop and smell the coffee beans at Cafe Negro. I met a friend here for an afternoon dose of caffeine. The space is clean and simple with white brick walls and contrasting black lettering. The menu has enough options without over doing it. Despite my poor Spanish the barista was super sweet and helpful in taking my order. I ordered a medium latte and a blackberry tart. I found a seat facing the street which let me people watch until my friend arrived. My latte came with pretty foam art. It's great that this café pays attention to details; it's the little things that set one café apart from the others. The location and atmosphere is perfect. The coffee was delicious yet STRONG. Halfway through my coffee I had to warn my friend that I was tripping out from a caffeine high haha. This yelper approves.

Yelp
Really clean simple space right around the corner from the main park area. Natural wood, white tile, baskets and plants - cozy. Simple menu and their filter coffee, which is off menu is made with beans from Veracruz, and it is really good. Not a connoisseur, but it tastes like blueberries with a bit of mint finish. I'm bringing some home. Also, they sell these chocolate amaranth bars - imagine lighter rice krispy treat w smaller puffs and minus marshmallow and butter. Had a blanco, delicious.

Yelp
Great place to stay and work for a bit or chat with friends. Friendly atmosphere and staff and great food.
